2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Has anyone thought about a diamond in the rough being a ballfield under construction?

angie, we're all here for the same reason!

You're welcome. This place should be welcoming to anyone who hunts little blue pucks in the snow or coal or whatever.

After all, aren't we all sharing the same obsession?

What if another era would refer to street cars? The renovated street car station at Como is all done and looking spiffy.

Ares- i can think of 10,000 reasons why we are all here.

not all of us are here for the money, dani. sure it'd be nice to have, and i'd love to take it and trade in my current medallion mobile for something a bit newer. i hunt for the sake of that one time being able to say i outsmarted the clue-writer. just wait and see what scribe says she'd do with the medallion if she found it.

Couple of thoughts... ski jump and Olympics/ in and on air There was a reference in #6 to gold/fool - think it is disguised in something gold? BC still looks good to me. Been looking for several yrs, but appreciate hearing others thoughts..

I'm with ya on that Ares. I actually like going out at midnight and freezing my buns and toes off! Everybody at work thinks I am crazy- but that I already knew!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:56 AM Permalink
Terry

I used to hunt for the money - saving for a house, having kids, raising kids, putting kids through college....but somewhere along the line I figured out I'm doing this because I'm obsessed and I'd do it for the sake of the hunt...not the money.

Not that I'd turn the money down!

Anyw=one see anything in the words where ya can take parts of words and form other words I have been looking at that along time but cant get anything

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:57 AM Permalink
ANGIE A

do some people go out looking by them selves Ive thought about it but a little nervous

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:57 AM Permalink
JQsGal

DM, midnight's the best time to be out. It's easier to scope during the day, but much more fun actually hunting with the diehards til 3 in the morning....I actually get to go out digging now that the weekend's here....

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:57 AM Permalink
Marie Smith

I went out by myself yesterday

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:58 AM Permalink

many of my friend's think I am nuts!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:58 AM Permalink
Terry

Angie - there are often folks out by themselves. It's safer once the park is known. Then there are so many hunters, it's not like being alone.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:58 AM Permalink
Jim Casper

I also think its not the money I am looking for Nt that I would turn it down but I think just to hold that puck would make me happy enuff. Not to be better than anyone but it would be my crowning achievement

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:58 AM Permalink
Jim Casper

I am sure most here feel the same

I drove by Newell this moring on my way home, there were a few people there wondering aroung---I just don't think it's there though. Has anyone else been to Duluth/Case? I thought it fit pretty well but I'm not too sure about the neighborhood.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 10:59 AM Permalink
DanielleMaria

I went out by myself yesterday too- allthough I have a baseball bat in my car- just in case!!!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:00 AM Permalink
Marie Smith

Duluth in Case is shady to me. I went by Newell also...people there,.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:00 AM Permalink
Terry

Here's another noodle for ya. What if this jewel in the rough referred to a jewel CASE! That would be a street clue for Duluth and Case.

Not too much of a stretch...but then anything fits everywhere.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:01 AM Permalink
Clue Master

Or it's in a CD jewel case

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:02 AM Permalink
LittleBiggs

the simple take on the clues... same as most but thought I needed to throw em out there, personnaly i think the clues are meant to mean one thing only this way it drags out into next week, due to the lack of the white stuff.

1. st. paul and maybe a fire pit 2. in something knitted or a park with hills 3. slidding hill or near the missisippi 4. broadcast towers can be seen 5. park with a rec center 6. park with baseball diamond

at anyrate there's the simplified one clue approach

Has anyone thought of Dunning Park. I believe it's under construction. (a diamond in the rough)

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:03 AM Permalink
ANGIE A

or a jewel CD

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:04 AM Permalink
Marie Smith

I live right by Dunning.....it doesn't seem to fit totally....like every park....yes under construction....but what other clues fit?

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:04 AM Permalink
ares

naw, ter. that's not much of a stretch at all. the stretch comes when i say that there's a log of people here who'd agree that dc is an a rough neighborhood.

Clue Master

I wit you LB - It's usually best to take the clues at face value. But reading into them does make it a bit funner though

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:05 AM Permalink
Marie Smith

How about jewel = royalty = palace playground??? hmmm.....

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:05 AM Permalink
Terry

Rough neighborhoods don't bother me much. The roughest neighborhood in St. Paul is probably safer than most in any large metro area.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 11:05 AM Permalink
Phalenfinders …

What park do you people think it is in, well all we know is that is in a park in St. Paul

Isn't 'rough' part of the clue anyway?
