The Planetarium was demolished when they put in the new downtown library. They've been raising funds to build a new one in the library (in fact the roof of the library had an area intentionally left blank so a planetarium could be installed later).
I don't know of any other stars in Mpls.. North Stars.. They played down by the MoA...
Clue- regarding CG hunt- Look at Hamlet Park, I like the Shakespeare reference in clue #1. Clues general theme say don't go slow...hurry.. Hamlet park is next to "The Rush" and G-Will Liquor (clue 3).
OMG! The Diamond Dash was one of our funnest hunts ever. It was more of a race than a hunt but there were clues that you had to figure out. I was surprised that I knew as much as I did about DT Mpls. The clues were never really a problem for us as they were for others. We only got hung up on two questions regarding what type of guitar sits outside the Hard Rock Cafe and the middle name of an artist of a statue. We were at the wrong statue on the second one. We jumped the gun because we seen people at a different statue and started to google his name instead. It turned out to be the second part of the clue instead. We never found out what the correct answer was for the guitar as we spelled it right but wasn't sure on what they actually wanted since they asked for the entire name. We mistakenly typed in Gibson Les Paul first and Fender Stratacaster second. You only get two shots to answer correctly so we missed all the points from that question. Never found out if they wanted just Fender or Stratacaster.
All in all it was a very well organized hunt. Each team was given random clues after figuring out a clue so there wasn't a mob just running around town. It was a blast downtown yesterday with all of us doing the DD and all the others doing the CitySolve. We were actually helping each other. We didn't win the big prize of a $15k diamond ring but the guy who did win asked his gal to marry him and she of course said yes. Not sure if it was and act or not but the crowd loved it anyway. They also gave away a $5k watch set for 2nd place and $1k for 3rd. Plus lots of Twins tickets.
The afterparty was so packed that we had to squeeze through the hundreds of people to get to the back outside. It worked out great as I was next in line to buy some hotdogs when the owner of the jewelry store came out and said that they were out of food inside and that he would buy 1500 hot dogs from the guy at $2 a piece. I got mine just as the mob came out and the guy had no dogs on the grill. Talk about eat and run. We grabbed our gift bags and beat it out of there and went over to the other afterparty for the other hunt.
We ran into and hung out with Mike and Jamie who join the CC earlier this year. Some of you may remember them from pre dig and the after party of when Jake found the med at Obbs. We compared each of our notes from both hunts. They both were really fun for both of us couples. J & I chose the DD because I really don't know how to use public transportation in Mpls which we the case of the CS hunt whereas we could use our bikes in the CC hunt.
They handed out all the clues to the CS hunt right off the bat and you had to figure them out and then map your method of attack. Each hunt had a task to do during the race. I had to use chopsticks to pick up a cherry and place it in a champagne glass (which took all but 2 seconds) and they had to try and bowl a strike between the two of them in order to shave time off of their score. We talked with both organizers and let them know that we were part of both hunts so they need to schedule accordingly next year and to also remember Minneapolis' little neighbor next door as well.
Either way both hunts were a success. The rain was actually exciting as it made it more fun for me anyway. We were all beat at the end of the day and both our butts are sore today from the little bike seats. All four of us will definitely do both hunts next year. Other then incrediblemagpie, we didn't see any other Cooler out there. I hope we can get more of us participating next year.
Thanks for your help KC and ares. It's too bad that our hunt was just moving too fast for texting to be affective.
Hennepin Island - it's not really an Island - it's a hydroelectric power station that has five generators that went online in 1954 and 1955. Bingo. Now there's a park on the property apparently.
We're gonna try headphones next year IM. That should help a lot if one of us has a contact looking things up that we can't figure out. Then the other one can take care of texting the answers.
Just found the Cottage Grove medallion with my niece. It took all of one minute to find it. It pays to do your research ahead of time. WHOO hoo. We get our pictures taken tomorrow
Thanks MedMan, Diggs, MadDog, BM & 3M. We had our pictures taken today by the paper but need to wait a week until the sponsor Edina Reality has their ceremony where they hand over the check. Kinda big deal for only $300.
And 3M, The bartender said Telecaster not Stratocaster which screwed us up. Next time I'm looking it up. I missquoted and mispelled in my post.
I think they capped the DD hunt at 250 couples and the CS hunt had 98 teams with more than 2 1/2 times the contestants. You would have had a blast AW. Very organized and fun
Well, the last time I saw her, she was a girl and now she's a young lady. I probably don't want to see a picture of Whitney either. Because she is also a girl in my mind.
"Look to the stars (not in the sky)!"
Maybe somewhere downtown? Is the planetarium still down there? Baseball or Basketball stars? Is there a Planet Hollywood down there?
Here's another hunt that's coming up involving some minor fundraising.

This island located on the Mississippi wasnÂ’t even an island until the 1950s
Can't find a confirming answer for either Raspberry or Nicollet islands. What other 'islands' are there along the Miss that are actually islands?
I told you that is was going to be fast and there wasnt much time for help! lol!!
BFG and I had the same problem with our hunt!

way to go!
I'm sure Jake will find his way into the picture somehow anyway.
I got another one hooked. Recruiting them like we're a cult or something. haha
I already got her and her sister into geocaching anyway. They wanted to go tonight after we found the medallion. heh

we can't see your socks in this pic ;0
But here is the picture that is in the paper anyway.
And here is the little story
