FYI - I cleaned up the hunt folder a bit and moved AW, Twins and BFG's hunts to the crypt and created a new Oakdale hunt discussion thread.

Thanks for the housekeeping CM!

I just need to let someone know - I'm about busting a gut.

Some of you know I'm not crazy about the job I have with the State. I can't get into the attitude about work that some state employees have. It irritates me no end to think our tax dollars are paying people to get away with the things they get away with on a regular basis.

And I can't say anything outside this thread as Vino is a friend of one of the people I work for.

But....

There have been some major changes where I used to work at Wilder. I had dinner with my supervisor from there this evening. She asked me to send in my resume earlier this week. She is working to find me something there again. It may not happen right away, but it will.

I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!

Please keep this quiet - and keep your partz crossed that this works out sooner rather than later. I would love to tell them to take this job and shove it. Hehehehehehe

Yeah, I usually stop in during work a few times, then sometimes when I'm home. Not as much as before, but I'm around. Just busy and usually catching up instead of chatting.

FYI for you all that the harassment restraining order Coco had against Nick expired on August 1st of this year. There hasn't been any issues since the 1st and I don't think it will be a big deal since Coco isn't coming around, but I wanted you all to be aware in case it comes up now.

Kitch - I have not a clue. She moves to the beat of a different drummer and sees things that most of the rest of us don't. I think it's more a personal thing with her. Until she says something about what it actually is, I'm ignoring it.

It has been more than mellow here. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not.

terry....

i'm sure your son would enjoy it...

basically the book is just short stories of his life...

I recall him telling me many of the same stories over and over again.

I wish I had all of his stories in the written form as I am starting to let them fade from my own memories...

back to my point about your son enjoying them....

a large part of the book is about his taxidermy biz and a lot of photos...

it was strange for me to grow up in his house on the summers as I didn't realize some of the extremely wealthy, famous athletes, and politians that visited from time to time.

but I do recall knowing who the game warden was at about age 6......he would visit as often as the UPS or Postman.

Not much. Too many grief books that I'm going through right now. It does sound like a nice distraction though. I know Amy did have a chance to read it though.

Hi fellow mods -

What do you think about putting together a Cooler Crew access list group?

I was going to post the following photo in the Sad Day thread but noticed that the access list includes all paying members of AM. That's 380 people at the time it was created. I'd like certain threads to only be accessable to CC only.

But that's a risk in itself too. Who is the CC?

As far as I see things, there are kind of two CCs as far as posting goes. There are those of us that are active here all year long and those that stop in for a couple of weeks each year. But we could even take that one step farther and point out those that do come back year after year too compared to the newbies.

I guess I'm looking for what you four think on the subject.

I'd like to post something with my name in it within these forums without needing to PS it out of it.

Thoughts?

BTW - They just placed Amy's brick and we went out today to check it out on Ali's 10th birthday. It was super emotional to say the least. I have Amy's urn next to my bed and our favorite tree Pricilla out back to talk to but there's something about driving somewhere to pay your respects that is not only touching but also rewarding.

Thank You Cooler Crew :frown:  :frown:

Talk about an appropriate placement huh? Both Ali & I started our first treasure hunts at that same spot.

I do agree with you---lately I've always been a bit worried about my privacy of a few posts....

my question is how (would be the best format)

heck for that matter...we could just do it on a low scale at first...but the issue becomes when somebody finds out and than is pissed when they got excluded.

(---or the other way around)(somebody pissed that somebody they didn't like was included)

It would be nice to be able to post more freely and not worry about private information falling into the wrong hands and being used in the wrong ways. I know though that someone is going to have problems with this, and probably more than a few people.

First off, I don't think you can use being Cooler Crew as the strict definition of who gets in. We've always been open and inclusive of new people. By restricting admission to just Cooler Crew, or being in the Cooler Crew for so long, would go against what we are. I think you would want to define it as people that you feel comfortable with sharing private data with. A lot of those people, if not all, will be Cooler Crew. That's because this is where we come though. Someone could be a friend or relative of ours, or another poster on the boards who hangs out a lot. They might not be classified as "Cooler Crew", but if you feel comfortable sharing private data with them, then I think that's who you're wanting to include. There is an aspect of time/history for those who would probably get entry, but the reasoning behind it is with more time, the more secure you feel with sharing private information with that person.

I think you have to look at the history of private threads here too. There have been those people who have had private threads, and there have been problems with people being excluded and things said about those or other people. I don't think we want something like that, so how can we prevent it? Do you institute some rules that you can't speak negatively of other people in the thread? Would it be appropriate to have it here, or perhaps see if MrMnMikey would have it in his thread, so it's not as much "Cooler Crew endorsed"?

I feel that there are going to be people who are upset because they are excluded. People want to belong, and something like this could be seen as a social status or priviledge. When it gets to be hunt time, we'll probably share secret noodles in there and some people will be upset or view it the wrong way. Although if it's started now, in the off-season, the argument could be made that it wasn't made for hunt purposes, but for alternative purposes. I think there will have to be rules set as to who gets in there, and there will be people who will be upset because they don't like the rules, or they feel that they should qualify to get in.

Sorry I went on so long, but those are just some of the thoughts I have about it.

I understand the concern over privacy issues. One always needs to be aware of what one is putting out there for the public at large to read. Remember, this forum was set up so that anyone paying could read the entire Cooler Crew threads.

I don't know how many that is currently, but would include those involved with ODI that I believe has had so many issues with posting of personal information.

I do remember that when we moved here from People's Forum, because one had to pay to post here, we decided we would not do invitation only boards. All those paying could read the Cooler Crew forum. That was one reason CM, you created that welcome medallion hunters thread so if there was anyone reading but not paying, they would understand the process better.

You might remember the upset about invitation hunt threads at People's Forum when that was discovered. There was also upset about some other private threads that were leaked that weren't even within the Cooler Crew threads.

Having said that, sometimes we want to share things with those we feel most trustful of, and not those that just pop in at hunt time.

Perhaps that one thread could be access listed.

My only hesitation is that when that is discovered, there will be some sort of upset somewhere. Those upsets are usually blown way out of proportion and that would likely be during the hunt and who wants to deal with that during the hunt?

Is there a way to archive that thread? I'm guessing there is other personal information of yours CM on that thread. I think the discussion of what even to have put on the brick was discussed early on so the information is already out there.

I sure don't know what the answer is. Can ya tell?

You're right TV - I did a search on my last name and there's a dozen posts out there already. Most in that thread.

Having any kind of private thread would create problems no matter how we put it together and what rules we use. The exclusion factor would be the issue no matter what we did.

I'll go back and edit out my last name from those posts. I wanted to do that before anyway. I'll just continue to be careful of what I post. I can easily PS the last name out from that brick.

keeping the list of who's in updated would be a huge pain in the butt. it always was, and i think one of the benefits we've had with this site is that we have had a list of at least paying users which we can use in our access lists. in the past at least, the goal of restricting access was to avoid lurkers, and forcing folks to at least contribute financially creates an incentive to do more than just lurk.

in an ideal world, we'd have some way of automatically oing it, where we could give people an id or something when we meet them which could add them to the group.

damned if i have time to put something together like that though

received the oddest instant message via aol from jake last night. he was wondering if i was planning on archiving the pioneer press boards. evidently he wants a copy of them for posterity's sake. i told him, jake, i read those boards. you don't want what those people said for posterity's sake

if i can find time i'll work on something but that damned threaded nature of them makes it all but impossible.
