Well, I'm not going one cent over what I already bid. I'm good at putting a limit and sticking to it. Now if Scribe wants to go higher, that's a different story.

I would go a little higher....I want that suit! I can wear it all year long!

Hmmm ... kingboreas out geocaching in a Vulcan suit ? I wonder if that's a business expense ?

Next time I see a leaf blower or a snow blower during the winter carival hunt!

I think I am going to jail!!!!

Almost used my rake wed night!! (on the Limp Blower)

She outbid me.

I waited until the last minute to raise my bid to $150, where she must have had a proxy bid because she got it for $152.50.

Oh well, at least the seller made out on the deal.

The bid was at $50 before I got into it.

you were bidding against scribe all along. hehe.

I'm pretty new to e-bay, I had only bid one other time.

When I saw that it was Victoria1919 I thought for a minute it might be Ian playing a joke on me.

Did you see that the store that was selling it is on Arcade St. They also say they are selling a red coat that the Vulcs wear around town also. I thought that was a no no to sell your coat...according to the Vulcans.

joe!

scribe may be interested in that coat though...

Yeah, I saw that. Told Scribe about it too. She said she's heading over there after class today.

I thought that was a no no to sell your coat...according to the Vulcans.

That's what I've heard as well.

Did you win that auction THX? I forgot to mark it to keep an eye on it.

Nope. I tried but wasn't willing to go any higher than $150

In case you're not aware, there are services, or programs that will put in a bid with like 1 second to go, ensuring a winning bid.

King Boreas aka Ian

Oh, and maybe another former Vulcan thinks he can get that much.

I have found it interesting how some people value things.

I did a Columbia search and someone had a bid of 17000 on a patch. Unbelievable. Almost makes you wish you had been there for take off and bought a bunch of them.

Even if the person you're bidding against already has a proxy bid higher than yours?

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 8:05 AM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

yes, whatever it takes to win - if that's what you want. I wish I'd saved the link.

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 8:55 AM Permalink
THX 1138

I'm confused.

How can that work if she already has a higher proxy bid, higher than my maximum proxy bid?

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 9:01 AM Permalink
ares

i'm not sure i understand that either. i mean isn't that why the proxy bid system is in place in the first place?

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 9:12 AM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

I'll have to find it, I'm not explaining it well. me2 knows about her, but I don't know if she knows about the service. I think it's called 'sniping'.

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 9:36 AM Permalink
ares

i guess i understand it from the point of view of someone like me, who 9 times out of 10 doesn't bid on an item until its last minutes up to prolong the start of the inevitable bidding war.

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 9:38 AM Permalink
The Chemist

Right, Ian?

Basically its premise is to get people lulled into a price say x product for $25 but you know it has a value of $50 (Or that's what you are willing to pay.) So initially you place a bid of $25. Someone over bids you @ $30 and during the last minutes of the auction the program places your max bid of $50. You get product x for $31 and the whole price bidding war is eliminated.

Thu, 02/06/2003 - 9:45 AM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

Place instant bids for you or it can set up time delayed bids (sniping!) to be placed just before the auction ends to make sure that YOU get the last bid in!

google

King Boreas aka Ian

Sniping is the eBay term for entering a bid as late as possible in the auction. To be considered a full snipe, there needs to be essentially no time available for somebody monitoring the auction to enter a reactive bid.

Yup! It's a complete suit coat and pants circa 1969! I'll be wearin the coat at the pre-dig from now on! The chick who got the snowsuit, was "thinkin" about coming back for it....Too bad for her! Snipe this!

I can't do the polyester pants....but it's cool to have the complete set. Guy said that he got some calls from some pissed off Vulcs that saw the other suit on e-bay...they wanted him to donate the stuff back to them. Apparently there's a "rule" about Vulc garb getting out to civilians...I'm a Vulc Bootlegger!

well then it seems to me they need to get their hands on the vulc who let it out then, don't they :)

I think you can get arrested for impersonating a Vulcan?
.....maybe not...Maybe Scribe can use it as a bargaining tool. She will donate the coat back to the Vulcans in exchange for use of one of the Fire trucks during the Carnival.
....A thought.
