Wow, that's a lotta shit to do.
I'd say. I'll try and give a hand where I can. One of these days I'll get to a pair of pears, I'll try and bring some stuff to fix that one up.
At this point if you want to give me a good spoiler on neither here nor there, I'll swing by and verify it's existence sometime next week, personally I don't even care about loggin a find on it, but it'd be good to see it active again.
Are any of those in need of work along highway 10 or 169 up towards Brainerd? I'm heading up there in a few weeks and could look into simple fixes.
the Phalen cache is/was an altoids tin (small), on the left side as you head toward the lake. it was covered with leaves, sticks, etc at about chest level.
best I can remember.
Lake Fremont needs to be removed. It's probably private property.
I'm headed up north on Saturday Ian, I should be able to remove Lake Fremont.
BTW, I wanted to do the Lost Viking Letterbox. I'll bring supplies to fix it up proper. My route up to Nisswa will be along Hwy 10, and coming back via 210 out of Brainerd to 169 back to the cities. If you know of anything else easily in reach of that route that needs work, let me know and I'll see what I have time for.
THANKS !
I'll check it out and let you know.
Looks like the Fremont and Letterbox caches will be it. That's a HUGE help. Thanks
Just went over my itinerary tonight. I've got 40 caches on my route, should make for quite the day (assuming they're all as simple as the logs make them out to be).
Hey Ian,
What do you know about that Lost Viking Letterbox cache anyways? I remembered on the guy's website he linked from the cache page it talked of both a geocache and a letterbox. In fact here's his site
http://www.geocities.com/iv_fantasy/page4.html
I'm guessing the container needs to be replaced on the geocache, but really don't know what size the original was. I'll make my best guess on that and bring a new container with me, as for the Letterbox iteself, is this guy maintaining that, or should I find it and combine it with the cache?
You're right, there are two. He is keeping the letterbox. I don't think there's a problem with it. I can't find the clues for it. And I can't find his old description of the cache.
that link I posted shows his letterbox clues (which I'll try to find when I'm there). So I'll just leave that where it is and fix up the Geocache.
I'll drop of some new geostuff in the new container (Logbook/Explaination Sheet/Pencils/Ziplocks) and a laminated copy of the clues to get the finder of the cache to the nearby letterbox.

You want a couple ammo boxes for your trouble?
I recently bought another dozen.
Ehh no biggie. Reading that page, it looks like animals regularly chew into the container there.
Would you want me to replace the container with one of those ammo boxes? I'm guessin if that cache hasn't actually been vandalized and it's 3 years old, it'd be a safe spot for one. Only thing is I'm headed out early in the morning, so if I picked one up from you somewhere it'd have to be this evening.
That probably wouldn't work out. Use whatever you think. Kollin bowls in Sartell sometime in the next few months, so I could switch it then, if I need to.
Alright, I'll see what I can come up. Will give ya an update after my trip tomorrow as to what I got there.
Ian,
I replaced the cache container at the River Pirate/Lost Viking Letterbox.
New cache container is an Ammo Box, and is located in the same tree, I can email you photos of the hiding spot if you wish, it shouldn't interfere with the clues too much, other than the ammo box isn't in the knothole (Close by it though).
Managed to have a conversation with the local Park Ranger (or maintennance guy?) on the way into that park. Very friendly fellow and though geocaching was a nice idea. I gave him one of those brocures and he gave me a few maps of the park, some of which I placed in the cache.
Contents are okay, trade items are a little scarce, but I've seen much worse. The new logbook is 180 or so pages, and pencils are plentiful. All in all, that cache should be in good shape for a long time to come.
Not sure on Lake Fremont, was dark by the time I got there, there's lots of signs of construction in the area, and a very newly downed tree (cut down, not fallen), it's entirely possible the cache is gone.
Very cool. Thanks a lot.
I met with the Land Manager and Director today. Removed Concrete Forest and Gopher Munitions (In The Year 2525) Archival in a week or two
Removed Ramblin' River East and West, archived, placed a new cache at the park
Planned on replacing Koch Minnesota Trail, but Good Boy has a micro .1 mile away so I removed and archived
Bad day, 1 hide, 5 archives
I've been looking (not real hard) for containers to replace the two Exonumia caches. I'll probably use pill bottles. Minnesota asked me about them in Faribault. I'll post a note here when they've been replaced.
I'd planned on going to Alexandria last weekend for bowling. Kollin decided to play baseball instead. So I don't know when I'll get those Rest Area caches. Probably have to plan an after-work trip soon.
About the exonumia ones, you mean the two that went missing right after they got posted? Yeah the micros can be tough, even pill bottles, to keep dry. I did centris' "peninsula point" where the final is a pill bottle, one of those fancy childproof caps and everything, and the logbook was still really damp.
I found some Exonumia tubes at AX-MAN. They're a little bigger, and longer.
Saw those there I think, was gonna reccommend them, but you're way ahead of me.
Hey Ian, if ya need any help on caches in the metro area (or thereabouts) let me know. I'll be checking out my hides this weekend as they both may have problems. So Sunday afternoon will most likely just be cache maintennance. If there's any in those areas you need to have looked at I could swing by.
The list is growing. New caches (including the night cache) are on hold until I can take care of some of these.
Polar Express is fixing a couple in Duluth this weekend and TECGeoJim fixed Nine Mile Creek and replaced Down By The Old Mill Stream.
