Well wasn't that some crazy stuff. 70th st in cg and concord in IGH were totally closed due to them being lakes now. I had to call my brother and his family to drive out and help me move a bunch of trees totally blocking the detour road in CG. It was actually a fun family time. Although there were lots of people including the neighbors who's trees they belonged to just sitting in their garages and cars watching us struggling to move these big trees to the side. We were only able to make enough room for one car to drive through at a time. The lady on the other side of my car drove through ahead of me like it was about time I cleared a path for her. Some people. Fun weather nonetheless.
My parents were in Mankato at a restaurant when the storms went through. The kids doing the serving had no effing clue what to do when the sirens went off. They decided to go under the tables. Really heavy rain, a little hail but not much wind. Hwy 169 south of St. Peter was closed temporarily due to downed power lines and mud slides.
Here are a couple of shots from last night right after the first wave came through.
btw - trying to use a touchscreen smartphone when it's wet is totally useless. I think I'm going to keep an old flip in my car just so I have something reliable in those situations.
I asked my wife what she thought as I gestured towards the outside this morning... she said it sucked, and looked like a mess. i countered saying I thought it looked beautiful. Different perspectives I guess....
Now CCO just needs to bring back Paul Douglas. As fun as it is to watch Mike Fairbourne play with his defective clicker I'd like him to have his old buddy back with him during the big storms ahead.
Crazy.. I have a bad feeling it's going to be a long, hot summer.
On the plus side, there'll probably be a lot of thunderstorms.
I do have to laugh at all the people who complain all winter that it's too cold out, then the first time we get a heat wave, the same people complain about the heat.
I honestly don't complain about either. Weather is weather, dress and plan your activities accordingly.
BTW is there a good image to put up for the local temp? We have a good radar map, but a nice temp would be cool too. I know there are people from all over the cities here, maybe just the Airport reported temp?
Mac has that mini dashboard app that shows the current weather and 5 days forecast. It uses fixed weather station sites, and I think the best one is probably the St. Paul Airport location - shouldn't be too hard to re-script it for a website I would think, but I'm not the one with the PhD
gotta have something that we can put a static bit of html/javascript/whatever in, because we don't get to play with the scripting on the back end of the forum site. there's one on the coolercrew site, but it's tied in with the software running the site and its not extractable. and trying a couple of widgets out there, they rely on javascript, which apparently is turned off (for obvious to me anyway reasons) on ableminds.
I'm sure y'all heard about the storm that hit NW WI last Friday. Sort of ruined our weekend....very widespread destruction, in some places nearly as bad as the tornado 10 years ago. How ironic that on the 18th we had a big celebration of recovery from that!
We have been without power for 4 days....just got it back last night. There are some that are not going to have it restored for some time yet. Grants burg, Danbury, and Minong, Webb Lake were especially hard het from what I've heard. The child that was killed was just a couple of miles from us....Just amazing the power of that storm. I can't believe that some of those trees that were so large just toppled over.
OT can verify this - that little downpour that 'nicked' Woodbury yesterday dumped about 2 inches of water in a half hour - enough to flood the softball fields and cancel the evening games even though it stopped raining immediately afterward. Five softball rainouts in ten weeks is just insane.
The ironic thing about the one in our area on Friday is that we had just celebrated recovery from the F4 tornado in 2001. There is just as much damage, maybe even more, in some areas now.

I retired here from Palm Beach County to get away from those mild summer days. One of our friends from PBC called last night to say we are far hotter here than they are.
Did anyone experience the floodings over the weekend?
I saw people Kayaking in a soccer field at Hazelwood Park in Maplewood on Saturday. There was a gas station at the corner of McKnight and Larpenteur that was flooded. Parts of McKnight road were flooded, even the NOrth St. Paul Target had water in it's parking lot.. Crazy....
You might as well fall asleep taking a bath - it pretty much feels like the same thing.
The last couple mornings I woke up just before dawn and went out on the patio to see if the air was cool enough to open the windows - everything was soaked in condensation - even worse than after a heavy downpour.
Heat index is only 92 in Tampa? That seems unlikely for this time of the year. We went through 10 years of summers there where the heat index was 92 at 5am. Although, that was on the Gulf. Inland is a little lower.
Sweet.. so this is what it feels like to live in the tropics...
I guess if you're stuck in it all the time, you probably acclimate to it.
The worst part about it for me is the same people that whine and moan about the cold are complaining now about the heat/humidity.
Have to get to bed.. but know I won't be able to sleep well.... maybe sleeping in a tub would feel better, lol. And now the roommate is whining about using a fan overnight... I give up. I might as well just try and sleep outside.. it would be less stuffy.
Woke up twice last night sweating profusely.. yuck... I think I'm going to try camping out in the basement. The only problem there is it's damp, and we don't have a dehumidifier....
Did I mention I need to start thinking about getting my own place?
I can't believe how long this constant thunder has been pounding my body. It sounds like a huge airplane on takeoff for over an hour now. No pause whatsoever. No rain here in the south metro yet anyway. Anybody else hear this?
Here are a couple of shots from last night right after the first wave came through.

But really, I get all my weather predictions from this guy.

I always have trouble sleeping in this weather, we don't have AC at the house.
