I am just hoping that it isn't found tonight... I will be out there tomarrow bright and early if it isn't found yet. I could definetely use the money, I a leaving for Haiti a week from Sunday.
I suppose it's possible he had some reason to suspect something may have happened to it. I know I wanted to go and check on mine several times, but was nervous about even going to Phalen at all and decided instead to just hope for the best.
which, as it turns out, it was gone. i'll leave it to jake to post the specifics of what its been replaced with, except to say that i know its basically a wrapped up wad of duct tape that says something about the michael schumacher hunt on it.
Gone as in picked up but not turned in? Wonder what happened that he checked. I do know that more than once today I noticed how things had looked mowed - as in the leaves were chopped up - and I had wondered if a mower could have blown it over the cliff.
Weird. I'm sure gonna be interested to read what happened. Who was out there at the time? What area? The same general area as earlier today?
Hey Jake, I think that you should be the one to do the explaining to clear up what happened so everyone on the board knows what's up. Because of the situation, were you planning on releasing the clue at noon or later. I personally think you should wait until later so those of us that were out there for awhile have a chance to retrace our steps in case you put it where we already looked. Otherwise it will turn in to nothing more than a free-for-all. Just a thought.
I'm sure that me2 (thanks for the commie) will have plenty to write about so I'll post a few pictures from yesterday's hunt in the mean time. See y'all out there later on.
Well the good news is the hunt is still going, but I feel bad for those of you that were out there already. I wan't to go out right now but I am not sure if it is out there, so I will be waiting for that explanation. The good news is my dad now lives in St.Paul, and I am a little bit closer than I was before(when I am staying at my dads). I think I may have to 'camp out' here during the hunt. If anyone knows anything please post it.
now mind you all, that "cute" little dead birdie term was coined by our one and only me2. as it turns out, live creepy-crawlies on the high bridge are gross and disgusting, but someone's poor dead parakeet constitutes "cute". go figure.
I had a big headache last night and ended up just staying home and then chatting with people on the computer. And today I have a lot planned, so I guess I'm not even going to be able to get out and look for this one. I do wonder though what's going on with it?
Goodmorning - we are told to be more 'observant'- I learned I was not when Terry & Inks found the chocolate tin where Kids, Ares & I had looked. I did notice the poor cute dead bird on the burrs :( and that Marley was wearing Jasmine :)
I personally didn't mind leaving for a 'breather'. also note: there are snakes out there! The police standoff was cool-but right in the middle of George & Smith -so couldn't do much for an hour but stand around.
CM-Those are awesome pictures - nice way to begin my morning- warm fuzzies
Thanksgiving comes late this year, on the 28th. I think I'd be up for another hunt perhaps, but I guess I'd rather not have to dig through snow. There could be snow at that time. If we did have another hunt, we could use the prize money that didn't get claimed for this one.
Anytime from this point until after the New Year is pretty hectic for us to think about any typical hunt. Perhaps an online hunt? Maybe to find a special webpage? Maybe a puzzle to solve? That sort of thing would be more doable for me anyways.
i think that any hunt in the real world between now and the pp hunt is more or less a bad idea. too much going on. i'm not sure how terry's online hunt idea would work. that could prove to be rather interesting. (but unfair to those of you who don't have constant access to the computer when you're say at work, which means that it'd belong to me2 and ares :)
Way back early in the cooler crew days, Ittiz Eye created a web page and had clues - once a day I believe to lead you to the correct URL for that web page. It was really exciting actually.
1. The first one of the year     Was found by the King     Now go to a park in St. Paul     And find the thing.
An unusually helpful first clue, the first line tells you that the neon 1st bank sign is visible from the treasure site. The second line refers to the fact that King is the name of a street near the treasure, and the third line clues you in that its in a park in Saint Paul.
2. Now “Old Hickory”, if you studied history     Was General Andrew Jackson’s informal title     Another Jackson may help solve this mystery     But keeping sight of the General’s moniker is vital.
General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was the Jackson who would help you solve this mystery as well as being the general whose moniker you needed to keep in sight. Which is to say that a stonewall was very near the treasure’s hiding spot.
3. There has been treasure     In this park before     But there are only three ways     For one to keep score.
The first half of this clue states that there has been treasure hidden in the park before. The second half of this clue refers to the three sports that are played at the park, tennis, basketball, and baseball. The word “one” makes reference to the first bank sign visible from the treasure site.
4. Thirty to forty, forty to thirty     This clue may seem confusing     Remember that in the end    We’ll think this hunt was rather amusing.
The first line about thirty and forty are referring to speed limits, and depending on which direction you are traveling on Smith Ave., you will either go to one or the other. The last line about the hunt being amusing was all you were going to get in regards to what the treasure was hidden in!!!
5. Roll the dice     Its one in six     Box it out     And you’ll have your sticks.
The deck is stacked     You just can’t win     This big dark cloud     It has you pinned.
“Boxcars” are sixes on dice, and there are train tracks below the treasure site. The words “stacked” and “cloud” make reference to the NSP smokestack near the treasure site.
6. A man named Claven     His useless facts     Figure them out     And he’ll watch your back.
“Cliff” Claven is a character from the hit tv show Cheers. The treasure is located very near a cliff.
7. One to the right     And none to the left     Just look for an arrow    Near the treasure site.
Describes the right turn arrow on the ground at the corner of Smith and Cherokee.
8. To be European    Would be interesting fun    Measure it up    And the game is won.
Metric auto works is across the street from the treasure site.
9. Let’s just stop     And have a Coke here     The medallionators will find     The real one next year.
The words here and coke put together is an anagram for Cherokee. The treasure was hidden at Cherokee park. The second half lets hunters know who will find the winter carnival treasure in 2003.
10. Look not far       From the biggest Bush       And its not hair we’re talking       In this political push.
The biggest Bush would be George Bush. George Street is located near the treasure.
11. His first name was real       His last name was fake      He led the A-Team      For a worthy sake.
A clever clue if I don’t say so myself. The leader of the A-TEAM was played by actor GEORGE Peppard. The character that Peppard portrayed was John SMITH. The treasure was hidden between George Street and Smith Avenue.
12. It's in a diaper, in the brush       At Smith and Cherokee       Find it now       And you will jump with glee. Tells the exact location of the treasure
I thought I would also let people that dont know what happened---
On friday night about 5:30 Ares,me2,cm and I were at Cherokee talking getting ready to call it a night for it was dark. When Jake should up at the park and said that we should leave so he could check on the coin it was for our good and his .So we did.Jake then called me about a hour later saying that the item the coin was in was there but the coin was not and he had put something in the place of the coin.(in a post from ares I found out it was a wad of duct tape he had replaced it with)So I go to the park at sun up(6:00am) and around 7:00am I find a diaper by the highbridge in the bushes and pull it out it has a small piece of duct tape wraped around it this is what made me pull it out of the bushes and check it.I put the diaper on the cement and smushed it with my foot.No wad of duct tape and no coin nothing is the diaper I felt.So I left it on the cement slab by the power box.About 7:30 artemis showed up and I was still over by the bridge and showed her the diaper. So then we keep checking around looking for "the thing".Around 8:00 8:30 Tmk showed up and we talked and then we went back to looking.1/2 hour later art and tmk meet on the sidewalk and tmk says he seen a diaper by the power box but aint checking it with his hands but it looks like nothings in it.Dont know if he smushed it with his feet.Art said that she would go with him with her stick and pick at it but they didnt.Around 8:30 or 9:00 me2 then ares showed up and tmk had to go to work.We all talked for a awhile and did a little looking and at one point decided we should search this one little area together(cause I had searched the cliff real good)and if we found it we would call it a wash.Around 9:30 or 10:00 Mr Med and his son showed up after we talked a little Mr med went looking for Ian's Cache. So then JAke calls about 10:15 and talks to Ares then Me2 then me then ares and while ares was talking to jake he said that Marley had found a diaper by the bridge with duct tape on it.I dont know what Jake said but Ares told me I should go check that frecking diaper again maybe.Tim the Hunter and his dad showed up as I busted over to the bridge and grabbed the diaper (still laying out in the open on the cement by the power box)and ripped the diaper open to find a FLAT square piece of paper with duct tape around it with the message from jake.So then I walk back to where everyone was talking and told Ares to keep his fifty dollars and we all walked over by the bridge where the diaper was found and talked. We came up with a plan to mess with Jake a little by not telling him it was found.Wow what a hunt.Whew!
Nice to see all of you in the park. I realized after I left that I probably didn't properly introduce myself or my son Michael. We had a great day in the park and the weather was perfect.
Note to Jake:
You should not jeopardize the hunt by checking whether the treasure is where it is suppose to be during the hunt. Take a hint from the PP. If the treasure isn't where it is suppose to be, you go downtown and find two unemployed people having coffee. Take them to the park without hats and gloves in below zero temperatures and surprisingly they find the treasure where hundreds of people have been for 10 hours.
a few years ago allison put together a great hunt that was online. it had some complicated rules, and I really sucked at it, but it was still fun. It had something to do with numbers and states, but thats all I remember...
Hello its 3:15 jake where's my fix! ;>)
His first name was real
His last name was fake
He lead the A-Team
For a worthy sake.
Marley-I knew you went home for more than the clue!
Clue #11
His first name was real
His last name was fake
He led the A-Team
For a worthy sake
Who me!
Yes I was checking on the army at the end of my block.(Some kind of stand off or something watch the news tonite)
Tawnia BAKER!
did the cops raid you?
Baker and Cherokee-see you out there! ;)
Original Cast: Mr. T (Sgt. Bosco "B.A." Baracus), Dwight Schultz (Captain H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock), Dirk Benedict (Lt. Templeton "Face" Peck), George Peppard (1928-1994) (Col. John "Hannibal" Smith
This sucks not having a car. Oh well, maybe it won't be found by later tonight or tomarrow...
Tawnia BAKER! That is a female - not a he/his.
I know that Baker comes into Cherokee out there - but I don't think this noodle fits the clue very well.
Mr. T - for a T in the road is doable. There's a couple out there where that occurs...but then you have arrows going both left and right.
Am I missing something here? It doesn't make snese!
I am just hoping that it isn't found tonight... I will be out there tomarrow bright and early if it isn't found yet. I could definetely use the money, I a leaving for Haiti a week from Sunday.
JAKE I am very disapointed in you!!!!
I would have to believe that the INTEGRITY of this hunt is in shambles.
So whats up is the hunt over ,was the coin out there, did you move it or did you just now hide it???
I would guess that the leader of the A Team refers to Smith St.
What happened Marley?
Well its like this Aw---
The clue writer shows up at the park and tells the hunters "you have to leave cause I have to check on the coin its for your own good and mine"
Say what?
Ouch, that not so good. Perhaps this improves the odds that I will get to find it tomarrow morning(assuming it is hidden).
"you have to leave cause I have to check on the coin its for your own good and mine"
Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.
I suppose it's possible he had some reason to suspect something may have happened to it. I know I wanted to go and check on mine several times, but was nervous about even going to Phalen at all and decided instead to just hope for the best.
I think that I also would feel that way. Although I wouldn't shoo hunters away unless I had a reason to think that it may be gone.
Damn.. thats whack! It should have been out there a long ass time ago...
which, as it turns out, it was gone. i'll leave it to jake to post the specifics of what its been replaced with, except to say that i know its basically a wrapped up wad of duct tape that says something about the michael schumacher hunt on it.
In other news, I wrote the first clue to my next hunt today. Maybe I'll need Marley to make me a coin soon so I can hide it early, hehe.
You are planning ahead! Wow!!
Hey Jake, I think that you should be the one to do the explaining to clear up what happened so everyone on the board knows what's up. Good Morning!
Nice pictures!
I was hoping to see an explanation of what happened yesterday by now. Guess that will come later today.

Ok folks I have talked to Jake and told I had found it and we had been messing with him!
did you get your 200 bucks? lol
Hmmmmmmmmm.........
Still no explanations for the clues. I guess it's still officially today - but it's getting later all the time Jake!
WHERE'S JAKE?
So it's still a while before the big hunt. Do we want to do another hunt before then? Maybe the end of November, or perhaps the beginning of January?

Great clues, thanks for the hunt.
we kinda figured out who you were anyway, med. :) lol with the advice to jake :)
Mr. Med - Did you find Ian's cache? Was it in some chocolate poop? ;-)
Thanks again Jake for the hunt. All-in-all it was pretty good and memorable.
Joe!
