My son, the soon to be former Peace Corps volunteer, as of Saturday the 30th will be home!! But I guess I can't stop worrying. He takes these crazy chicken buses at least once a week. The following is part of an email he sent to his Grandma today...
On Tuesday one of my buses was coming up to town center from a village when it lost traction and fell off the cliff. It rolled about 130 meters. 15 dead, 35 wounded. I was in my house when the first of the wounded and dead were being brought back. Crazy since I live next to the clinic. Mass casualties. Very bloody, lots of screaming and crying. I walked to the scene yesterday. The bus is completely destroyed. So much so, I'm amazed anyone survived at all. I'm trying to find a copy of the paper since we were on the front page yesterday and a little today, since one more person died last night (16 total now). The driver flew for fear of being lynched, which he surely would have. Such is life. Nine people died a couple years ago in a similar accident, and two died last year. I've been to all the scenes. The roads in those areas are pretty flat and wide. Mystery for sure. Yesterday morning I was walking past the scene from last year, only I didn't know until yesterday afternoon that people had even died there. I swear I saw a woman sitting on a rock kicking her legs and giggling, but when I looked directly at the rock, all I saw was the rock and just heard the winds in the pines. Weird. I must be going crazy.
lol one of my grandmother's co-workers told her to ask me to saty out of that hunt, she wanted a chance to find it.Would be funny if she was the one that did.
wow Terry! Summer is already almost over, time is actually moving a little too fast lately over here, I hope it rubbs off your way and Sept 30 comes quickly for you.
me2 - not September 30th...Saturday the 30th of July!!!! A week from now!!!!
He just needs to keep safe a few more days. I can't tell you how many times we've gotten emails about the stuff he's experienced or seen and we've darn near had heart failure.
Guatemala is the least safe place the Peace Corps has volunteers. I've often thought they should pull out of there, but that's the mother in me thinking.
And he will be home until he finds work. He's already been applying online when he finds something. He wants to work for a DNR or Fish and Wildlife somewhere. Hopefully he'll find just the perfect fit.
The interview went great they loved my work and the fact that I have 5 years of printing experiance. Sounds like a good job lots of chances to use my skills in Illustration.
was thinking about going to the airshow-and to KCs brickyard cache party thismorning -it is cool and breezy out right now but hearsay is 95 degrees -heat index of 110!!!!!!!! Mucky mentioned beer and a beach ....hhhmmmmmm what to do.
heck, everyone got soaked coming down the trail from the ridge. Diggin4it and I barely made it down before the heavy rain kicked in. Here's a picture of the coming storm just as we decided to head out. Taken from some odd structure on the ridge near a clay pit.
Thanks all, it was so hummed at work tonight when I walked out of the air condishiond break room my glasses fogged up so bad I had to take them off then a boss yelled at me cus I was not wearing safety glasses. :eyeroll: you just can't win
Anyone here today? I guess everyone is outside baking in the oven. I just got my air conditioner installed about a week ago so I'm enjoying that today.
I've been busy working a lot so that's why I haven't been here much.
MM: Sorry about your tragedy. Prayers and hugs to you. I'm at a loss for words for anything more.
Going good it's very hot in there but the money is nice. I had an interview that was promising on Friday for a graphic design position keeping my fingers crossed.

Hmm.. summer must be winding down then, the frenzy of medallion hunts is slowing down.
Lot more locals doing this one than other towns...
well its a lot better of a commute from owatonna than anoka is
Thanks in advance
I didnt know we even had a hunt... and I live there
I have lived in that area since 1979... and never heard of it...
I got to gnaw through my straps more often and get out
Hoping for a joyous reunion for you
It is sad to see that it is not much safer for them in the Peace Corps, than it is here...
Good luck for him
oh, how long will he be home for?

too! How's the job going?
It's nice to have a job you like instead of one
you don't like! Keep us informed!

sheesh.
I was wondering....are CLOWNS going to be allowed to wear face paint this year during the st. paul winter carnival???
The Leprechaun was just here
The medallion is hidden
Now go to a park
But destructionÂ’s forbidden
Look to the playground
And search up toward the sky
Do not wreck or destroy
Need not dig, break, or pry
So go to a park
To get in is free
It is not in Camfield,
Shannon Park or Jaycee
Central to your search
Is a trail to explore
Listen to the Winds
And go search evermore
geez....
