East Side Digger
Mornig crew I would say a V also. I made it through the hell night at work, it was 9 pm and some students come walking in to do there last min. printing you should have seen there faces when I told them I was going home and they should go to Kinkos LOL.
As I said before, Minnesota hasn't reached V or W yet in the numerical sequence. We're only at M. I like TC's idea of a rubbing though. It works on tomb stones.
My impression, from talking to the Trooper, is that they won't bother looking for the guy. Too much time and not enough resources. And he also said that even if they catch the guy, hit-and-runs are very hard to prosecute, so they generally don't bother.
yes, but you've got the evidence of the collision right there in your bumper :)
Just over half an hour until the Woman's Gopher basketball team takes the court! I can hardly wait. Dinner's fixed and I think I'll take the phone off the hook. They might need my undivided attention to pull this off.
Frosti.... I was just thinking....The State od minnesota using something called "Whisky" plates to identify individuls who have been convicted of a prior DUI/DWI. These plates start with the letter W and I believe even V due to the amount handed out as of late. They give these plates out so that those who have drunk driving issues can still drive to work and normaly restricted to daylight hours or hours that match their schedule.
If it's a Whiskey plate...... there is no seperation between letters and numbers. If i'm not mistaken....theres a caance there may be more then 6 digits. There is a guy in my apartmnt that has one.. I'll look at it on my way into work tonight and report back.
Yes the 3rd quarter is done - \09Computer/Photo \09B, \09Design III \09A, \09Illustration \09A, \09 \09Psychology\09A, I still need my History of Graphic design grade yet I think I got a B in that. Not shabby for an old Hood.
Frosti - sorry to hear about your hit and run! We had a similiar thing happen several weeks back, but it was right in front of our house - they hit Dad's car when we weren't home. Luckily for us, our guy left his front plate in the snow. Unluckily, he was uninsured. Our insurance will pay, but we'll still have to come up with the deductible.
I have some resouces available as well that might help narrow your search. I'll check some stuff out tomorrow during the day. OTS - the "whiskey" plates do have a separation....and I'm pretty sure they are still just 2 letter with 4 numbers.
As for alphabetical sequence, it is true that they are on "M", but that doesn't mean that there are not plenty of current plates out there beginning with "A". I think the restarted the alphabet only about 4 maybe 5 years ago, so it's perfectly plausible for there to be a plate out there that's CVU789 or the like.
I'm wiped! But thought I'd throw in my 2 cents while my eyelids were still open :).
When I was doing my reserve police stuff they stressed the Whiskey plates to us. *MOM* I just went down and checked in case. The guy at my apartment that has a W Plate has no seperation between digits. You are correct there are two letters and then 4 numbers but there is no seperation between.
There is a middle latitude auroral activity watch in effect for tonight. There has been auroral activity in northern Europe today so if it holds until dark and the sky that is partly filled with clouds would clear, this could be a fun night!
See?- I am such a work and fishing whore I am at the mercy of those who still post for my updates to life. I personally think there were too many birthdays to keep up with- so.... HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ooh- I feel so much better... I AM still alive, but.....(see above rant) Hope some of you are finding a way to use digging tools in your garden I am ready to be laid off- although that will not happen for 2 months or so......... I am totally packed with happiness that Me2 got the "kitty", and am fascinated with her forays into the depths of those caves. Me2- weren't some of them used by Libby's for mushrooms? I will wait for an answer..... Â I'm waiting........
Hello Terry V, OT, OTS, ESD, and Frosti, you bugger....\ All who I missed- hello too- I'm just a wee bit loaded, and cannot be held accountable for a thing. Me2- I AM STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (just kidding) Hope this post finds all of you well- and persnickety.
I am so disappointed. :( I was really having fun watching those girls play. Final Four ain't bad though. And there's always next year. It must be the Minnesota jinx.
Good morning crew Ahhh A whole week off from school and work. To bad I have to deep clean all the carpet, Paint the baby's Dresser, clean up and rake the yard and Wash the windows.
A three-kilometer reach of the Mississippi River gorge near downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, is known locally as "Mushroom Valley" because of the abundance of man-made mushroom caves in the sandstone bluffs. Mushroom growing lasted a century, from its introduction by Parisian immigrants in the 1880s until the last cave ceased production in the 1980s during the creation of Lilydale Regional Park. Notable examples are Altendorfer, Bisciglia, Lehmann, and Peltier caves.
Some of the approximately 50 caves originated as sand mines, and not all were used for mushroom growing. Examination of city directories and Sanborn insurance atlases revealed that other common uses were aging of cheese (Land O' Lakes), lagering of beer (Yoerg's Brewery), and storage (Villaume Box & Lumber). The University of Minnesota rented caves in the 1930s for experimental ripening of blue cheese. A cave used by the St. Paul Brick Company later was gated as a bat hibernaculum by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Mystic Caverns and Castle Royal were underground nightclubs in the 1930s.
The caves were surveyed during a civil defense study in the early 1960s. The typical cave is a straight, horizontal passage 50 meters long, but often connected by cross-cuts to similar caves on either side, creating network mazes with multiple entrances. A cave operated by the Becker Sand & Mushroom Company is the largest of all, with ten-meter ceilings and more than a kilometer of passages.
OK- yesterday I got to explore and help survey/update the Yoergs Brewery Cave :) - I was slightly dissapointed cause I had read and heard this cave could go as deep as 1 mile--It was only approx 2 blocks deep and maybe 1 block wide with many tunnels and rooms though. There were bricked up areas as well - most of the cave was about 30 feet high.
The other myth I was trying to purge was if there was really a tunnel leading from the Yeorg house at 215 Isabel St to the caves. -Unless it was behind any bricked in areas than the answer is: NO :( there are no tunnels leading from the homes on the bluffs to any of the Yoerg Brewery caves.
There was one under ground tunnel in the cave (in the ground) that you had to crawl on your tummy for about 3/4 of a block that came out in another part of the cave.
Approx 4 holes throughout the caverns ceilings - ONLY REACHABLE BY 1 ROPE that was tied to a 'stick' approx 45 feet up from the cave ground-so 30 feet to the ceiling, and then another 15 feet up into a hole in the ceiling (hope you were good at climbing rope in gym class)(These were actually just air vents, 2 of which went to the surface). 1 hole had the rope which you crawl up to reach a tunnel in the ceiling, then you crawl through that tunnel to get to a 30+ foot drop at another area in the cave-so you had to crawl back through the tunnel and down the same rope.
There were areas where barrels where rolled down to other areas in the cave. Lots of glass bottles and rusting barrels, oh yeah-and some girl lost her birth control packaging with her name on it-geesh (personally I think it was a little too cold for that! But I was NOT surprised to see it ;)
I did see the area the gun powder was found- The police/bomb squad left a mess. we took a sample of the gunpowder (which alot of gunpowder was mixed in with sandstone on the ground (very soft).
1 entrance was 'blocked' in with cement blocks but the other 2 entrances were accessable and can be reached by either entrance- the gunpowder was approx in the center of the cave.
part of the sample we took - put some on paper in the cave, burned a bit of it -basically we are still alive and it only burned the paper...and stunk-smelt it in my clothes all day.
The research and people I have talked to pretty much confirm that the gunpowder was kept in the cave due to: it's a cool & dry place to keep it- and probly one of the best places to keep it. It looses some of its properties when it is not kept in a cool place. We just don't know who actually put it there.
My next venture is to 2 caves-Mystic (the gansters used in the 1930's as a speakeasy)and milktruck cave- I think this is the one that Ares and I were in during the HarrietI mean Como Hunt 2003.
and don't you 'mom's' worry- I have proper caving gear :) -got my helmet and helmet lights-which will come in handy during the hunt :)
Mornig crew I would say a V also. I made it through the hell night at work, it was 9 pm and some students come walking in to do there last min. printing you should have seen there faces when I told them I was going home and they should go to Kinkos LOL.
I hate to say it, but I don't see a v or a w where you're pointing. I don't see anything! Waaaa!
As I said before, Minnesota hasn't reached V or W yet in the numerical sequence. We're only at M. I like TC's idea of a rubbing though. It works on tomb stones.

It seems these days that law enforcement isn't in the business of enforcing the law.
Speaking of law enforcement, I saw the greatest episode of Monster Garage last night.
They put a donut maker in a cop car

nah.. he lives here... the sad thing is.. thats his 2nd plate. He lost his first one when he got anothg DUI. So they issued him a new one...
the plate that hit frosti had a state of minnesota in the middle...
So then we know it's not a Whiskey plate :)
Yep.
Me2 I will be doing some sketches tomorrow about 1pm at Cherokee
Morning Sammy!
Hey Frosti, how you getting to work during the strike?
I've been driving over to the park and ride on Como Ave near 280, and riding my bike in from there. How about you?
Oh, and good morning Ralph.
yep...If I was the head of that union I think I would have planned a better season to push a strike...like the start of the "winter season"..
too many people can walk or bike...and is not enough "pressure" to help the union......
mornin' ralph.
Good morning crew, I am stuck at work till noon, at least there is nothing to do but play on the computer and do some art work.
How about you?
Scribe's playing chauffer.
Rush Harley is back in town.
I saw him in the skyway today when I was running to pick up some lunch.
Scribe's playing chauffer.
Lucky bastard.
I feel bad, making her do that, but don't know what else to do. We only have one car.
If it keeps on, I may have to buy another one.
I've got an International Scout I'll sell you, cheap. ;)
