1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Dream Team

Wow, Green!!!

We just logged back on, your mom help you write that response???

Not trying to bash any seasoned hunters, but anybody who finds an earmuff and throws it back because their mom says without takong a closer look at it doesn't deserve to win!!!

Lets see how good you are??? If looking at things from the past is what you are good at!!!

Last year on this site we identified the hiding place with the correct explanations of the clues way before anybody else!!!

If you can figure out who we are, then maybe some credince can be given to your interpretations!!!

Give it a shot!!! We will give you three guesses and we bet you do not even come close!! Just like the current explanations we have seen out of you!!!

We suggest you take us up on the offer!!! If you can find out who we are at least you will leave this years hunt having found something, rather than going home empty handed again!!!

Good Luck, we know you are going to need it!!!

Hey dream Team.... finally some common sense has enter the mushpan of brain waves collected here... You got any ideas on my scene/action= something to do with film theory??

just realized that the spools on videotapes are about the same size as the $10,000 piece o plastic...

Barton, you *ever* read what's been posted prior to when you logged on??? Like, slog????

If you *would*, not only would your question bee answered, but you *mite* even get an education on clues, how The Hunt's set up, bee able do read what udders are thinking.

Like, you know? I'm tired o'posting every time some Tom/Dick/Harry/Jill/Jane/Mary asks, giving them an answer, over and over again...

Say!!! Here's a novel concept!!! Read what's been posted prior to you posting!!! You mite learn something - and also have your question answered at the same time!

I think you may be on to something with the scene/action theme!!!

The videotape spool "IS" smaller than the treasure but we like the way you think!!!

I already SCANNED through all 1000+ posts... and the president thing is a waste of brain cells... just like picking chunks off of a donut head and eating them... And ive been hunting since i was 5 with the parents... granted thats only 17 years but what i HAVE learned is that people try to find TOO MUCH in the clues... last words in clues have led to either locales or the actual object in which the med was hidden... im not raging, just trying to clear my name and give some input....

I think clue #2 could mean it is in a park close to one of these big ones, even within view, but dont get too close to the action where everybody is digging in the big park???? cause thats not it. Not many times, if ever have they thrown two clues in a row that could both go either one way or the other. And I agree with an earlier poster who reminded us they would NEVER narrow it down to 2-3 parks on the first clue with the golf course clue. I think its telling us to stay away from a park with these things, but nearby enough to use them as reference. Make sense? Maybe not but they have really set the stage to nail us with a small park this year(after so many big ones in a row!), I just think it would be too lame to go to one of the big ones again unless it were Phalen. Just Getting warmed up here!!!

so its not at 1431 n. lexington pkwy?

Dream... I think it best you edit your diatribe big time. You will be hurting innocent people if you don't.

Why the vinegar??? Nail me and harrass me as much as you want. But why? What have I done to hurt you? If it makes you feel better and a *bigger* person for it - Good. Get it outta your system. Egos only inhibit digging.

Now... BOCK TO THE HUNT!!!!

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 2:24 AM Permalink
Barton Fink

Hmmm... I think they have to go with a big park this year since the prize will generate more people digging than ever... more people that dig so they give us more ground to cover...??? and yes i agree that the golf course clue isnt narrowing the parks to the ones that HAVE them... i think it's ruling them out... so there's still a ton of parks left to ponder over... (one's with sledding, skiing hills of course)

I was out at Highland with a friend and we ran into two other treasure hunters. For now, I still think it's as good a place as any to dig.

The freezing rain we got a few days ago is an annoyance for two reasons -- it hurts my shins when I shuffle through the snow, and it makes every stroke with a hoe or shovel feel like I've struck something much more significant that a chunk of ice covered snow!

There were some mysterious looking footprints in the snow that appeared to be about three days old. Some just seemed to start and end in the middle of nowhere I followed them a bit and did the obligatory digging out around bike racks, picnic tables, fenceposts and benches. Someone has to do it!

Alright!!! i got green back on my side... (whew, now i can sleep eeezy) now with the help of Dream Team (which is probably only one person with 12 personalites and 12 pairs of Nikes) we can get some pre digging-digging done!!!

so, with that in mind, perhaps it is on one of the tee boxes at the bottom of the downhill

Digging already? That's just crazy talk (but in a good way). And I'm glad someone's digging around the things that the medallion will surely not be hidden near. It'll prevent me from getting the urge to do the same.

Go, Daisy! That's the spirit! I plan to be out in Highland myself in a couple days. Maybe I'll see you there!

Hey Daisy.. why were the footprints mysterious??? i know for a fact that the hiding team all wear size 10 1/2 D shoes with eagle imprints on the bottom...

Hey, Greg!! Nice to see you! I see you haven't used any of my pictures yet!

I must admit thusfar though, the Como thing does make sense with the sledding and the action going on in part of the park this year, and in such a big $year$ no park could handle soooo many people like Como could, just having a hard time swallowing only 2 years since it was there last!

I'm telling ya'll.... THINK MOVIES... last year it was Citizen Kane, this year the first 2 clues have spawned action & scene for final words...

Didn't think you were up to it!!!!

All the *udders* were wondering if you *mite* *ever* accept the challenge.

We figured you wouldn't!!!

Not trying to hurt any innocent people!!! You were the one that brought all the *udders* into this!!!

Hey Barton, your prose seems awfully familiar, you sure your telling us the truth about your identity???

P.S. We only own 7 pairs of Nikes collectively

One more final thought about my scene & action=film idea... the slogan for the carnival is no time for cold feet which the PiPress thinks is a reference to OUR OWN GOVERNER's line from predator "i aint got time to bleed"... seeing as how our gov. is one of the finest actors to ever grace the big screen (a BIT of a stretch) the hunt may reflect that...

'mom'

Well, guys...as much as I had hoped for it, my dreams did not lead me to any specific parks. Bummer!! I like the Highland theory - except I think they would have plowed out more parking areas - same thing with Mounds - none of the parking areas are open there. I don't know about Battle Creek (which is a good runner up in my mind), but I do know Phalen's lots are all open.

Ittiz going to kill me to not be on from work like the entire day! Will prolly get here for a bit this afternoon tho! Happy Noodling!!

Green, sorry I missed the STB-L!!! But like I said, the bandit carries a heavy, heavy schedule on his shoulders.

See y'all 2nite

Good Morning Y'all. Dave - Pig's Eye Park may be a possibility with "flying" (#2) - St. Paul Airport; "don't get caught" (#1) - Ramsey County Jail is visible from there - up on the bluff on Kellogg.

Hmm. No-one's talking. Must be a big secret where the treasure is. Gotta go to work. See you at noon.

maybe "scene" of a crime?

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 7:27 AM Permalink
Dave

Yeah thats why i mentioned it someone mentioned mounds and flying down hill. Makes sense but I've never actually been to Pigs Eye Park. Who Knows, my Top 5 now are PigsEye, Como, Phalen, Highland, Mounds!

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 7:28 AM Permalink
Golden Boy

Yes - Dave. "Scene" of crime and "won't get caught" - could refer to criminal element (ie; jail, police station, etc.) Green mentioned police station at Highland Pk last night. I think there is something to the criminal thing - may have to wait for later clues to pin it down.

Yeah its so hard to sit and wait thats why this internet thing is so helpful to vent ideas for the first 3-4 clues till we narrow it to 2-3 parks. i like the criminal thing, the scene/action/movie thing, flying is hard to decipher so far.
