Treasure Digger

It was found by 3 bridge playing women. They had been looking for the medallion for 3 decades. It was found at Battle Creek after the 6th clue. It was in a yarn pouch. No mention of luck in description.

Actually, that was the year the clues spelled out Battle Creek.

I hope I don't have to wait 30 YEARS, or start playing bridge, before I find it. EEEEWWWWWWW.....

The last year it was made of metal was in 1987 when it was found by using a metal detector. It was found in Indian Mounds Park.

Interesting in 1953 it was found on the 7th clue and PP decided to hide a 2nd treasure chest. Wouldn't it be nice if they hid it again at a lower prize amount?

Although - Battle Creek is a BIG PARK. I still think that this has been the EASIEST hunt of all time - I grew up in StP - and I don't remember it ever being this easy.

Either we're getting a lot SMARTER or the clue writer is getting alot DUMBER.

Back in '53 that would have been on the 4th day - back then they published two clues a day - one in the PP and one in the Dispatch. By the way ... I wasn't around in '53.

I think technology has changed so much through the years that we've become a little bit (okay maybe a lot) more creative at figuring them out. In the beginning, the clues seem to be a lot hard especially when they didn't just hide it in a park. There are only so many parks in Ramsey County and with computers making it easier to discuss the clues with many, many people the support group is there when it wasn't in the past.

where was it found in '53 - a BIG PARK?

Treasure Digger

In 1953 it was found in Cherokee Park in a snowbank and at the State Fairgrounds in a large bush near the Poultry Bldg. In 1953 there were 13 clues and the only day it doubled was on the last day. The other clues were just as they are today.

I'm just full of information tonight.

You've got a point TD. That's why last year's hunt was a riot - they had us going to Newell (remember "as WELL as the NEW") then Merriam then finally Conway. Because we're figuring this stuff out quicker - I thought they woudl stay with the same strategy of sending people out on a wild chase, park hopping every 2 - 3 clues.

But this one was NP all the way. Except for the idiotic suggestion in clue #1 of Swede Hollow ("vikings depression").

I'm so bummed....I barely had a chance to hunt this year. I was looking really forward to getting the clue tonight.

The parks that have been used the most for the hunt are Como, Harriet ISland, Highland. This is only the 2nd time for been at Newell.

Thanks for the info TD - I've gotta get me one of those. Is that the Treasure Hunters Guide you're going by?

Sat, 01/29/2000 - 8:08 PM Permalink
Treasure Digger

I'm not using the Treasure Hunter's Guide. I'm using a binder that I've gathered information from the internet, my neighbor, and the PP. I have parks, clues, newspaper clippings, summary info. on the parks. I also wrote down streets and surrounding info. from last year when we were scoping out the parks. It really came in handy this year.

I've downloaded many parks from the Ramsey Cty. parks and map quest. The Treasure Hunter's Guide is helpful but it definitely can't be your only source of referral.

WOW - you should develop, publish, and market it. That's gotta be an easier way to make 10 G's. Plus - you can write-off you treasure hunting time as a business expense. I like the sound of that!

well it is time to gather the garage logic think tank together and head out to the bird in maplewood be there sometime after 9:00 so close this year yet so far

Treasure Digger

It's helpful to start your search with maps and then the previous year's as to where it's been hidden. Also, what's going on at each park is another helpful tool. It definitely pays off to join in on the discussions here to share ideas with other hunters. So much good help is shared here between everyone. It's too bad that there are probably so many more just reading info. and not trying to share their thoughts. Oh well.

Agreed.

I wouldn't consider what I have to be publishing material. I've just spent too much time printing things and typing them than I probably should have. I always bring my binder with me when I'm digging. If I see you next year, I'd be happy to show it to you. My husband started laughing at me when I first started putting the thing together, but now it's the first thing he asks for when the second clue appears.

Time to get the kids ready for bed. We were outside all day - from about 10:00 to 4:00 at Como, Downtown, and the Parade. DAMN... I should have been shovelin'.

Hey - there's another little business idea TD. Make bumper stickers saying "I'd Rather Be Shovelin'". No-one except coolers would know what it meant.

I like that idea, Golden Boy. Maybe that should be your extra money next year. I bet you'd make $10,000 on them alone. Have a good night. Thanks for chatting with me tonight. I'll see you out there next year!!!!

Bummer - my son's got hockey at 1:40. Guess not. We'll see you next year. Take care - Goodnight.

Good night, GB. See ya next year, unless you can come earlier to the park or skip the hockey. But priorities makes the choice harder.

I'll try earlier. Otherwise I'll probably be the one you see at LINWOOD next year digging like a mad-man after the 1st clue. I think the web-site is all yours tonight. I've gotta go.

Barf, you caught me before I logged off. It was found this afternoon by the 2 adult swing. It was a bench for 2 people about 35 paces inside of an ACE playing card box. If you look at PP's afternoon edition on line you'll find the article on the man and his family.

I've really got to go now. My better half is yelling at me because I've been on way too long and the hunt's over. Bye for now.

Does anybody know where it was found in front of the becnch swing. I dug 1/2 way between bench and rock this am and had to leave to pick up kids..... At least we were close.

Man! This SUX soooooo much! I didn't even get a chance to go out. My first time ever not getting super-close to the Medallion. I'm really bummed. I was just getting ready to go out too. I had it all planned out where to look and everything!! and only after 7 clues!!! well, I'll see you all next year. I don't think I'll be able to make it to the re-hash bash though. -PEACE I'M OUTTA HERE!- :o)

I think there was a bit of overkill in the clues - they referred to Pierce Butler 3 different times. Like, OK ALREADY!!

Wish I would've stayed on a few minutes longer around 5. I would've heard about the pity party at Newell. Went out to Famous Dave's instead. How was it? I take it people are still there from the silence here.
