Tiny Thumbs-- why are you so sure that the word "Ace" is definately tennis??

Maybe the medallion is hidden in a playing card box.... Maybe ace simply refers to a winner.... Even though you can't go on them, maybe it is near a par 3 hole on a course.

No part of the clue except for the word ace has anything to do with tennis.

the clue says that if you look in the direction of boreas (north), you will see the towers. According to where I think the medallion is, that is very true.

OK, here's a stretch, but work with me...

Look towards King Boreas. We're looking north, right? What if it's on the north side of Highland, and you need to look south, looking towards MONTREAL AVE ?

medallionstallion - 1871 is a gem!

Allison - Battle has big ol' picnic shelters, and I THINK there are 2 WATERtowers in view, but did that clue even mention water?

you can see downtown from battle

Wed, 01/26/2000 - 12:52 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

But are the shelters in Battle Creek on the Maplewood side?

Wed, 01/26/2000 - 12:53 AM Permalink
vikesfan18

it can still be on the north side of montreal as long as you aren't past the towers.

Battle Creek is huge and can easily fit these clues, I was out there quite a bit last year

step, I'm not locked into tennis (though serve also ties in as could chase for that matter, at least when I play!). I'm just checking out possibilities. I wouldn't be surprised if ace referred to the First Bank building neon sign which hopefully one can see from whichever park it ends up being. What are you thinking?

if you know treasure hunt history, they will not go back to phalen or mounds park. i do find it odd that their has been no mention of water. is their anyparks you can see no water from? newell is probally the closest for lack of water, but way over by the fair grouds their a statefair water tower you can make out in the distance, but you still see it!

One good thing, was out tinkering in the snow and it is pretty light and easy to move around, except the hardened clumps on the outer edges.

Tiny--

I am thinking no doubt so far it's Phalen.

I know that park very well and the clues fit like a glove so far (although the clues still could work with any park.)

I got a spot I'm checking tomorrow and if i have no luck...i'm waiting for more clues.

it says you will cause a rebellion if you go where golfers cavort (gather). i'm pretty sure that means that its at a golf course (or specifically a clubhouse).

Wed, 01/26/2000 - 12:56 AM Permalink
Schlettdog

Isn't the north side of montreal by the water towers golf course?

Wed, 01/26/2000 - 12:56 AM Permalink
Red DOG

you cant hunt on a golf course

"ACE" could refer to a baseball pitcher....."PACE" is how much stuff the pitcher has ...& "Chase" as in a pennant chase.

Tiny Thumbs

The northeast section of highland is not the golf course, it's searchable park. It's the northwest section and southwest section that are golf courses.

Possible references for Ace other than tennis:

fighter pilot (StP airport?) cards (Heart? Spade? Club? Diamond?) a domino (hey, it was in the dictionary)

There are shelters on the St. Paul side too, however, they are kinda in the vicinity of "the sledding hill", which, if memory serves me right, was referred to in that year's clues

Wed, 01/26/2000 - 1:02 AM Permalink
SHOWMEDAMONEY

You could search on or near a Frisbee golf course......

Where exactly are the towers in Highland?

Wed, 01/26/2000 - 1:02 AM Permalink

right along snelling avenue

Battle Creek falls in my too recent category anyway. Its never been in the same park less than six years apart, and its only been 5 years for Battle Creek. 6 years for Highland.

Battle Creek is so close to Conway as well.

Near the track and tennis courts at Highland still sounds like the best bet to me, assuming that this is considered property of the Parks system more so than Highland High School's domain.

Other thoughts: The small park across the street from Newell is called May and has a separate identity. I think this is the area to which you guys referred when you spoke of the tennis courts. Also, Battle Creek recently was handed over to the Ramsey County Parks department for maintenance by St. Paul Parks and Rec. I don't know if this changes its identity as a "St. Paul Park".

Still falls within the City limits of st. Pual, however some parts of it are in Maplewood.

I finally made it after slogging an hour!

Hay, Allison, Terry! See ya Ian, Stallion and Hollywood.

well, i still don't know what to say until the real clue comes out on the PP website. My bet is that it is still in Highland. Catch you guys tomorrow.

Except for a possible typo, I'd have to think the clue was real. If not, we'll all know by morning and that's the end of Derek's credibility permanently.

I cancelled my subscription to The 'Press as they didn't deliver my Monday paper. They SWORE I'd have two today - Monday's and todays - at 6:30 a.m.

Guess what? Only got today's. So, cancelled.

How am I supposed to cut out the clues if they don't deliver the paper?

So, picking paper up on way to work each day.

Doin' a little research on the coolor crew site's history. Take a look at clue 3 in 1995, when it was in Battle Creek:

'Tis no easy measure to secure the treasure But here's a clue to help you get by. To end your hunt with great pleasure, Look for water in the earth and sky. (The water clues refer to a nearby pond and two visible water towers.)

Two visible towers, eh?

Is there any chance it could be in North St Paul?

Mine will be here in about 2 hours. Always seems to deliver at 3AM. But I can't wait up that long. I have a job interview tomorrow.

Well, after all that slogging, the botching of posting the 4th clue... Guess I'll toddle off again.

Tomorrow's my last day to work for The Hunt.

Good luck and good noodling, All!

The longer they hold out with the park name, makes me think it will be in a smaller park if they hold out til this weekend again.
