G, folks are going to McGoverns (sorry for the typo, can you tell I'm not feeling well!) tonight and tomorrow night (if we're not out digging) to take part in a documentary that's being made about us treasure hunters and the online community we've formed. There is also taping at the Como Conservatory tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure Green will post a reminder with all the info later again tonight.
My other half, Electric Duane is there right now. I couldn't make it tonight because I'm sick. I hope I'm feeling better tomorrow so I can join in on the fun.
Wolffpac, if you really like hidden falls you can "link" Mpls, and StP with power lines that have circular balls on them. Of course I have been there the previous 2 years and would prefer to think of it being DT. I thought my previous explanation (post 11495) was good too, but I am NOT ready to dig there yet!
Okay. So here is another one that fits the profile of Phalen. Hunt until June means summer. How 'bout Summer Avenue near Frost and Prosperity? There's a Wakefield Park right there....
I too have lots of things I like about Phalen. But I'm trying to remind myself to stop overinterpreting these early clues (which I do every year) because when the clue interpretations come out, each one is so darn simple (when I have many complex reasonings for each) that I just get frustrated!
McGregor's -- I like that! I think I'll name a burger chain after myself. Rest up for tomorrow, that's what I'm doing. Too much work lately.
Boy, I think I'm focusing too sharply on the early clues. Bank account might also be Barclay Street, in the same area as I've been mentioning. This could also be the place for gold, I suppose.
Let me introduce myself. I'm the feared Night Digger. A family curse was place upon me about 25 years ago at Highland Park. My mother & her sister picked up and threw away the medallion. It had been burnt in a fire and was disfigured. It turned out they had the prize but mistoke it for a burned piece of rubbish. I was traumatized as a young lad and each year since I'm been searching between Midnight and Sunrise for the prize. I can not show my face in the light so I'm doomed to walk the parks each bitter cold night for the rest of my exsistance. (Evil Laugh Ha Ha Ha Ha)
Now that's a near miss. Last year one of the kids in our group wanted to dig near the swing in Newell. We'll use her again this year with instincts like that. Welcome!
yes it can be in ramsey but when it was hid at wakefield, they, destroyed the place maplewood was pissed !!! i don't they would go there..thats why i think it's been so long for phalen cause partly in maplewood
Hello, well my mom just called me here at school flippin out because she thinks it might be Palace. She was flippin out because we live across the street from Palace. Has that idea been thrown around at all?
Hello I am new to water cooler I am with whoever it was that said Wakefield it is possible you would be bold to look there also many other things fit I am going to drive by there see what fits
Palace = place for gold; also bordered by Palace Ave.; horseshoes = Good luck in first clue; bordered by view street = out of view; bordered by Jefferson street = reference to dual or all those battle type words (deploy, destroy, etc); has ice rink; bordered by fence = circular thinking and linking might be chain link fence; I'm sure there is more but that's what I get at face value.
Go for it! Let me know if you find anything. I'm generally on around 8 - 10, at least for a few minutes. I'm not excluding Wakefield due to bad blood with Maplewood.
Can you also check Gloster Park to the west? Frisbie runs right through it. Good Luck!
Gregor, Don't you think the suburbs have been eliminated this year by all of the references to the city? I know the rules say Ramsey county, but St. Paul was mentioned specifically.
wow, we have a busy webmaster tonight. They're just adding links to everything now up top- tshirts, previous clues. They really want to keep us here, looking at their advertising! I suppose in the end it's all about business and publicity and we're all just pawns. But it sure is fun!!!
Wakefield Park is out. I'm a former City of Maplewood parks worker and they will never have it there again. Ballfields where all torn up and some damage was done to the warming house. I left the city and took a night job (Evil Laugh Ha Ha Ha Ha). Digging at Night gives you an advantage of a one day head start. I was first on the scene at Cherikee Park 4 years ago and most years I am first on the scene. Been within 20 feet of the treasure 20 of the last 25 years. But digging at night you cant see as well and the chains of torment I drag around cut off the moonlight. So I will never find the treasure. I hope a Water Cooler member finds it this year.
Glad to see a couple of Hidden Falls ideas, I've been thinking of Crosby Farm (below the US Bank, Deploy your boat from Watergate, linked with Hidden Falls, and some other thing I can't remember right now). Whadyathink?
I, personally, am waiting until tonight's clue to find a favorite park/rec area to argue for. I can come up with tie ins for many large parks (Phalen, Hidden Falls, Como, Battle Creek) as well as some small ones (Palace, Groveland, Desnoyer, Frost Lake, heck even Newell!). I can't decide if the "only in the city of Saint Paul" idea applies or not. Wouldn't it be harder to figure out if they didn't tell us directly (i.e. tougher duel?). What are your thoughts Ya Dig?
sorry to bring it up for a third straight day, but i think we've found a second vampire in our midst. welcome night digger. :)
anyhow, i'm missing quite a bit here with regard to palace. we've got good luck -> the numerous horseshoe pits there, and view street, but i'm not seeing much of anything else that immediately links palace to the clues.
something else to noodle about: now that we've had so much emphasis on linking, hitting the golf course = hitting the links. thoughts?
we're not supposed to touch the real golf courses to keep the greenskeepers happy; those things have to be very well groomed. if any of you have ever played disc golf, the fairways are mowed, but no groundskeeper's gonna get brassed off if someone takes a divot out of the fairway. given that the pins for disc golf are generally collections of chain links...
PLC - Try post 12123 and then 12321 for recap
Sorry Gregor I was slogging through old clues.
Highland is so big where do you start....I have a meeting nearby tom night so I plan on diggen there.
Of course I may run out in the middle of the night after tonights clue but I doubt it.I think the clues will be very vague until after this weekend
How do you go to a specific number?? without sloging through all the numbers
Has anyone heard from E&H's Mom? I'm still searching for a button. Do you hit McGovern's every night at 7:30?

TT,

won't be at wakefield they trashed the last time it was there, said would make pp pay for damages wakefield is in maplewood
Do you think link (in reference to Hidden Falls) could be the path that connects it to Crosby Farm Regional Park?

Med Master,
Why is Maplewood out of the picture? I thought it could be anywhere in Ramsey county on public property?
Has anyone ever heard of Knuckle Head Lake of 36 and Hazelwood? Gotta love these map books...
Night Digger, that's a great near miss story! You have my sympathies! Welcome!
Hello all, sorry so late.
Hi Birdie! Welcome back!
Night Digger,
Now that's a near miss.
Has that idea been thrown around at all?
why yes, Birdie,it has. Who wants to share the reasoning for Palace?
Bird, your mom lost me. Where in the clues did she get palace?
Well view in clue #3 could be VIEW St. which runs next to Palace

Birdie this is Scotty are you coming in this weekend to look
Gregor yes I will I grew up near gloster I will let you know

Not sure Scotty, depends on if I have a definite park to look. Y?
Just glad someone noticed!!!
So what are the parks that everyone's stuck on at the moment
you name a park or rec ctr, someone's got a theory.
Just seeing what your plan of attack was.
Wakefield Park is out. I'm a former City of Maplewood parks worker and they will never have it there again. Ballfields where all torn up and some damage was done to the warming house. How many rec centers have had medallions hidden in them? can't be too many.
I, personally, am waiting until tonight's clue to find a favorite park/rec area to argue for. When i first say circular i thought Round lake by phalen but that end of phalen is apart of maplewood, so I sort of turned on that idea.
someone tossed around the frisbee golf idea earlier (tying in circular item with linking) and I think that's got a lot of merit.
and that would be a "golf course" we could hunt on.
Hi..this is my 1st time here. Just checkin to see if my message gets on
welcome nildear!
In clue #2 it says golf courses and statues you must not annoy, now does that mean we shouldn't bother looking there or we should.
the highland disc course has been a big topic of discussion a while back.
we're not supposed to touch the real golf courses to keep the greenskeepers happy; those things have to be very well groomed. if any of you have ever played disc golf, the fairways are mowed, but no groundskeeper's gonna get brassed off if someone takes a divot out of the fairway. given that the pins for disc golf are generally collections of chain links...
I'm off to take a nap before the next big revelation by Ma' Press! Good luck noodling all!
