6th Annual Re-Hash Bash

Submitted by THX 1138 on

Date: February 2, 2003
Time: NOONish
Park: Como (again)

The cooler crew is an online community that is made up of folks with a commonality that involves digging in parks in the dead of the winter and because we have this obsession in common, we find other parts of us that have commonality too. - TerryV

Who goes to a picnic in January?

The Re-Hash Bash is always open to all Diggers, Hunters, Clue-Writers and Lurkers. Discuss the Medallion Hunt, and have a good time with those of like obsession. It's a great time! The Re-Hash Bash is a family affair. Spouses and kids (even toddlers) are more than welcome! Come early, stay late and eat, then eat some more. It's a potluck deal. It really is a fun time. It helps bring closure to the hunt for the year.

  • Bring a dish to share: dessert, salad, hot dish, whatever you like.
  • Bring your own drinks, plates, cups and utensils.
  • There is usually a fire to "keep yourself warm". logs are needed !
  • Check the weather forecast on the link below, but come prepared for "changing" weather.
  • You may wish to bring a lawn chair.

Hey LiLman,

I don't know how Parks & Recs would feel about us having that kind of party out there. I understand we sort of have an agreement with them to have a low key picnic type get together.

That's cool with me. I just don't want to tick off Parks & Rec., since they're kind enough to do this for us every year.

Am I worrying for nothing?

I'll try and put something together on a CD if I have time. We have a bunch of people over at our house right now through Sunday. I'm still not sure if I will be able to make the Re-hash. They know about it though and would understand if I had to leave them for a few hours. I'll do what I can. A lot of them didn't turn out all that great. Lots of blurry night shots.
Oh well, I'm otta ear.

Things are as done as they're going to get tonight. Long johns and warm clothes are laundered, food is ready, picnic basket just about ready, name tags ready and all there's left to do is catch some shut-eye before the big day!

I can hardly wait!!! Who woulda thunk 6 short years ago that our numbers would have grown to this?

Kids - hope you found the markers.

Goodnight, SCDs and MCL!!

I'm setting up a table near the (closed) rest rooms, for the Minnesota Geocaching Association. There are a couple things we do that will work best away from the group. This will also be the location of the Music Exchange. Feel free to stop by any time.

So, the PP booted us out, but we still have a good rep with St. Paul Park & Rec. Lots of new faces, and the mingling of 3groups. As Marley would say:

Cooler !

Hey Ian, what's a good GPS unit to get?

Gonna start looking into one.

How many showed up?
We still had a houseful of people at re-hash time and we were already well into our 4th or 5th Bloody Mary by noon. It's kinda sad though cause I still have a whole big tray of taco dip and a handful of photo CD's that I was going to hand out. I sounds like it was fun as usual.

There was a lot of people coming and going.

I'd guess around 100 total.

Hey Ian, what's a good GPS unit to get?

<http://gpsinformation.net/main/ot-20.htm>

I have a Magellan 310 (obsolete) and a Garmin eTrex. If you're only thinking of using it for geocaching, the eTrex is great. They're about $100, sometimes on sale foe $89 at Best Buy or Target.

Are those Como caches still going to be there or are you forced to remove them?

Sun, 02/02/2003 - 10:14 PM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

I took one out, but I know that for at least a week there'll be 4, plus two virtuals. Hint on the Conservatory cache:

The answer would be Frog Pond.

There ya go, Scribe. Your first find, without a GPS.

Ohhhh, I thought they were trying to give you a hard time or something.

Tue, 02/04/2003 - 3:11 PM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

It was a bit of a hassle:

  • convincing them who we are
  • getting someone to turn on the power
  • waiving the usage fee and damage deposit
  • coming up with contact names from previous years
  • etc.

I thinkthat when I mentioned the NAHF crew and 2001, something clicked. I was on hold a couple minutes, then everything was approved. I asked who I might send a Thank You to, and was told it wasn't expected or necessary. Then she gave me the address.
