Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.
Clues:
Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)
Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low
There’s no time for cold feet!
For searchers’ pleasure we’ve parked the treasure
Where nature lovers each other greet
Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)
Boreas\' vast realm can overwhelm
Even diggers used to the long haul
So here\'s advice to put your hunt on ice:
Look no farther than good old St. Paul
Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)
Hunters can be surly but in clue-time it’s early
Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel
Near land that is high the treasure is nigh
Vagueness rules and that’s on the level

True, the downstairs is cozier and we're to ourselves, but upstairs was fun, too. People see that you're having fun and they wonder what the party is about...some "good?" PR for the hunt and the WC!
Personally, I'd like to change. I know there's the whole tradition thing, I've been there so I know how it is, but this might be the year to move on to some place a bit more friendly and accommodating.
I'm sure we could just show up and make the best of it but I see it as more of a cluster-f once the Wild fans start coming in and mixing with us.
Ideas?
I could write you some big rambling like I did a few years ago on that weird site that KT and the tailgater dude liked to go to... I could try and write porn for ya, but it just wouldn't be the same... Some nice childrens stories I could do, as long as the kids realize that I am not so creative. Horror is good, but I am afraid of so many things...
I can write anything. It just won't be good...
Last year we mingled pretty good with the crowd that was in the bar pretty good. Wild fans who move in will be pretty juiced up by that point in time so I imagine it will be love/love all around.
I'm game with whatever everyone decides though. Whats the worst that can happen? We start there and move to another venue?
Looking forward to seeing everyone though.
The cold. The clues. The camaraderie. The medallion that got away. As you warm up for the 2007 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt, we invite you to share memories of past medallion pursuits.
We want to hear about it all. Tell us about coldest, snowiest, windiest hunt ever. Or tell us about how hunting for the medallion brought you closer to your family. Tell us about the closest you came, your best partner or your biggest Treasure Hunt regret.
Sum it up in 200 words or fewer and send it — along with any photos — to us via snail mail or e-mail. We'll publish a selection Jan. 21, the day this year's first clue is unveiled. To be considered for publication, entries must be received by Jan. 12.
E-mail them to huntmemory@pioneerpress.com or mail them to Treasure Hunt Memory, Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, 55101.

i like the idea of the random hot chicks too.
random, hot & DRUNK chicks.
I'm trying to think of other places that could handle a crowd of 100 people on a Saturday night. Great Waters might be a possibility, but they won't have much parking either and will also likely have a big hockey crowd.
If we go to the other side of the river, there is Joseph's Grill. They have great food and I know they have a private room for 85 and plenty of parking. As far as I know they don't draw big weekend crowds.
There's a Davanni's to the east on 94 and White Bear that has a couple of party rooms you can get for free if they are available. There's not much of a bar there though.
There really is the room upstairs at the Como Lake Pavilion. There would be a certain poetic justice in having the event at Como Park. There's a charge to rent the room. I can call and find out what it is.
There's Gabe's by the Park. They also have a private room, though it's not that big. But you can get it for free if you order enough food.
There are ballrooms at the Kelly Inn between the Capitol and the Cathedral. I could check into the deal on those.
Offhand though I'm thinking Joseph's might be the best option. I have some experience setting these things up and could front the deposit, but I think we'd need some consensus and committment at least here to begin with to go ahead and move it.
We did that a while back (Tini's for Tatas) had a great time and raised almost 3k (granted we charged more than 5 bucks a band)
The beauty is, no bar gets over crowded - it forces people to mix it up and socialize and you get to see several different venues.
plus - you always get at least 2 or 3 drunk people to do the 'hey hey were the monkies' stroll with song down the street.
if I remember people start showing up from 7-9pm anyways. the early people will have to mingle with pregame wild fans but once it gets closer to 8 that place will start to thin out quite nicely. thats when more and more of "us" start showing up. we dont have to have that room reserved to manhandle it by taking every chair/table/standing space available. by the time the wild fans get out of the game at 1030ish and try to get back into the bar we'll have our full crew in there and there would be much room for wild fans anyways.
I'm open to change too but I think we should keep it in St. Paul and I think the only viable option would be a private room somewhere.
OTOH, Josephs' could be alright, too. Any thoughts on George's (Awadas)??
Julie!
Ian is a hoot!
Ian - with no work for you this hunt means u and I will be hanging more  :::crosses fingers:::
I would think if we could get the room at 9 that is kewl indeed  the upstairs one last year seemed great
I think it may be too late AW to switch it and get everyone to the same location - I am however open to whatever is decided upon.
RR
It seems the consensus is to stay with McGoverns for now. The question is if we want to reserve the downstairs for 9:00 or leave it as is? It could be somewhat confusing if everyone is hanging out upstairs and we all move downstairs at 9. Ideas?
Just play it by ear?

I'm assuming I won't have any time off, so I'll just not sleep the entire hunt.
I gotta get a new job soon though, so I can work up enough seniority at a new place to at least take a week off for next year.
Thats all i do have. :goofy:
HMMM WHITECASTLE ISN'T ALL THAT FAR I GUESS
We can always stop at White Castle before hand and do our part in clearing out the place in some more traditional ways. :ooh: :ooh:
although, i don't think there are enough restrooms at mcg's to handle that may slyders.
a soft thank you to the 'ear' link. that was nice - in a weird way that you'll never understand.
My January got swamped fast at work! I'm completely booked with researchers, volunteers and meetings up til the 19th.... including an e-mail that I just got this afternoon that claims I should attend a meeting on the eve of the 25th! ahhh, yeah, right, um NO.
