2008 St. Paul Winter Carnival Medallion

Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play

Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil

Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash

Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.

Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free

Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact

Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope

Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower

Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf

Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer

He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel

Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages

The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious

Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn

Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix

Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage

Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter

This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

I think it's the one I saw on the google street view last night that runs right along the tracks that cross little canada road/county road C / old county rd C. etc.

oops - edit - that's round lake trail.. never mind - but it does cross and follow down the RR tracks for a bit to connect Old County Rd C with Bluewood street etc.

I am thinking Leo Getz is out (Lethal Weapon)...

Didn't think much about Stanley Getz until seeing this, but still probably nothing...

"Zoot Sims, who had known Getz since their time with Herman, once described him as 'a nice bunch of guys', as a consequence of the wide behavioural range of which Getz was capable. In the final stages of his life Getz was able to end his addictions."

We've scanned the county to hide our bounty

I'm disinclined to think that this is our "it's outside the city" clue. It isn't enough for me--St. Paul is in the county.

That said, the only times I recall seeing the words "Ramsey County" in clues were for Acorn and Tony Schmidt parks, and it in both of those years, they rhymed it with bounty. There is some precedent there.

Some mentioned earlier about wish=hope and mission=church. As is Hope "blank" church.

I just got done looking up all the church names in the yellow pages that have Hope or New Hope in the title. The only ones I found in Ramsey county that were remotely close to parks were New Hope Baptist Church on Bradley St. (a block or two from Swede Hollow) and House of Hope Presbyterian on Summit Ave (I think that was Kitch's pick).

When I and the wife and the weiner dog did our 'speed scouting' on Sunday, we got approached by a stray Pit Bull at the Bruce Vento Trail entrance (Payne and 7th).

The Pit Bull was extremely friendly and domesticated - no tags, must either be a homeless pet or an abandoned dog. We called 911 and they were going to see about animal control. We told them he's harmless, but was probably hungry.

Our weiner dog wanted to tear him limb from limb. It was hard to pose for a picture by the sign with a strange pit bull humping your leg and an angry weiner dog growling in your hands.

Someone earlier (I think Brass Monkey, apologies If I'm wrong) mentioned that in previous years they tended to treat Phalen/Keller as a single entity when mentioning the amenities. I agree, and I now have a question about this line:

And the golf course is out of play

The Golf course is singular--Keller and Phalen have a golf course each. Nit picky, but for this reason I'm not convinced it's at Phalen/Keller

Thanks for the information, Sunny. The poster at the PP boards said the church is St. John's Mission Church. On Mission Creek, which eventually runs into Lake Gervais

So no other rocket we know of. And Central has both a rocket and a genie. Wouldn't that be something?

Just got home from running some errands. Bought some Bounty at Target to keep with the theme of the hunt. Headed over to Cherokee and saw a lot of footprints, but no hunters. A couple of cars in the make out circle, but didn't drive in there. But there's been some interest there. More prints than people just out enjoying the park.

Green, "How fun is the snow, how far will you go". Don't forget the old ski jump at BC.

We. "...we go?" Plural. More'un one skier. Like two, three sitters on a sled.

Yeah. Convinced sledding. Am beginning to think the game of "whatever" is near the sledding hill and and it's all free - the sledding, the game.

That was me. I looked into this more and found a Hope Luthern Church in Maplewood on Hazel Street in Maplewwod. Just to make it interesting the cross street is clear ("invisible") and Hazel is the tree of wisodm. The nearest parks are Goodrich Park and Hazel Park and it's probably a stretch to say they're near.

It stinks enough having to work during the hunt, but to do so an be excrutiatingly busy on top of it just blows. I'm just having my lunch now. Cripes. :frown:

1. The Hunt is on for the diminutive King Boreyourass. And behave, don't destroy and keep off the golf course. Jake, the little devil, got it last year by following us in - that's not gonna happen this year.

2. Orleans or Sophia Street.

3. The Med is in the county, but we're not saying if ittiz in the city or not because we're gonna keep you on your toes. It may be funny but the Med's invisible as we've hidden it in a white spoon box.

4. Sledding's fun. Go C for yourself (County Road C or "C"hair-O-Key). Or you need to go see the sledding hill to find the Med; see the sledding hill from where the Med's hidden. Sledding and game(s) is all free.

Prince never 'Rinses' off in anything. He tells the story about the Lake Minnetonka waters to Apollonia, who makes a blatant overture and promptly jumps into the water topless to go skinny dipping.

For the record, that scene was actually filmed in the Minnesota River Valley hear Henderson - a few miles away from where I grew up. I swam in the Minnesota on several occasions during the 80's droughts - that river is dangerous in ANY season, and its chemicals make me what I are today.
