Yeah, don't tell New Daddy where to search - he is usually in the right area.
Hence: He won one of the Park Pick Pools this year
Lets NOT talk about Merriam! that hunt was just sick!
I didn't forget about you Medheads... If I woulda known you guys were down there I woulda joined you and thats what sickens me! I enjoy night time digging with Mikey...its what we do! and to NOT be doing 'what we do' that night!? uuuhhhhgggg!!!
I did have them in my hand while I explained why she should put them back. I then handed them back to her and she went off to return them to their place among the hedges.
As part of No Time for Cold Feet, the scene where Brenda and I are telling our story, we needed to find a replica of those earmuffs. I still have those. I find them every year as we unpack our hunting stuff.
Brenda has never hunted again. That's been 22 years ago.
There is an important lesson to be learned here that I think is being overlooked...
The medallion is RARELY found at night without the benefit of clue 11 or 12. The 2011 hunt is evidence of why night digging is so risky. I'll beat myself up over a lot of things having to do with the 2011 hunt, but the fact that I was in bed asleep when it was found won't be one of them. Here is a list of all of the years it was found at night without a "pinpointing" clue.
1956
1957
1969
1983
2011
Short list eh? That's it. That's all. I wish I could be up hunting 24/7, but you need to sleep, and you should do it during the night when you don't have adequate light.
Never assume you know "how it is". I spouted off a couple times to some non-hunting friends about how I love night hunting, but its just not logical and your chances are way better in the daylight. So wasn't planning on doing any night hunting until later, trying to be conservative. If we'd stayed down in the cities Friday (which we could have) and gotten the clue we MIGHT have gone out there and had a chance to find it this year. But you know - woulda, coulda, shoulda...
Its a logical theory, but this year it bit me in the butt!
My other lesson - listen to Marley!!! He gets some weird ideas, but they usually get him where he's supposed to be.
That's always been my opinion.. better to look during daylight, but I still can't help being bummed that we went home that Friday night to get a good nights rest and be up fresh and early only to find out it had been found.
I usually save the night digging until clue 10-11, I spend a lot of daytime hours going over areas already dug up since so many people do a sh*tty job.
It seems that it's often found in areas that have already been dug up... does anybody have a stat on this?
BTW.. I think it's funny that Valleygirl is STILL noodling the clues to Como on the crazy board. She has to make sure she has the most threads started, make a comment in every thread she didn't start even if it has nothing to do with the thread topic, and be the last one to make a comment on a thread.
I've come to realize that after reading one of Valleygirl's posts I will be no more enlightened, entertained, or inspired than I was before I read it. I'll only wish I had not spent the time trying to figure out what, if anything, was actually said amongst all those words. Thus I've trained myself to just automatically skip past them. It's working out well.
Sorry T! Too much going on, I don't think I even logged on here after it was found 'til now. I did drive to the site Friday night on a whim, grew up around 6 blocks from there, lots of memories. I'll PM you my email, drop me a line and I'll try and do the same!
dont forget my "next to Cathi Hogan story of 2001" Como. Might as well add I walked over it on the field next to the sled hill on clue 3 at BC in 2006. Also raked over it at phalen. Don't know if that was before the raccoon moved it or not...
and of course Reggie raking it in the creek at Swede..
biggest lesson learned...when you think your on it, dont quit looking.
We all did that at Central standing around the fire pit waiting for the clue. We all knew it was there somewhere and we gave up, waiting..then the 3 ladies found it while we stood around.
Funny thing is, I told Jake this story at the predig and told him thats what I always regret, That I'm too tired, or give up too early. I tried calling some people down there at 2am to dig. Everyone wanted to wait till light. Even when I decided to go home and sleep till 7 I still wanted to go back there. Kept thinking about "mettle" and brace, thinking it was the rebar everyone told me was on the steps.
I accidently woke Penny when I went to bed and even told her that I was thinking of going back there. She told me to wait..She woke me at 7am. I found out it was found at 7:04am.

Signed The Night Hunter
Very true!
It was a good idea, just a bad market for what they wanted to do.

Someone needs to get a life...BAD. :pbpt:
