2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

the only ones i've ever been aware of in that part of the city are the ones that wrap around sackett and head out northeast toward stillwater, a good way north of bc, and the ones from the former MILW yard at the lower end of the creek by pig's eye,but none over by mcknight

Battle Creek is known for Cross-country skiing. So that could be the tracking, or footprints in the snow.

Well, unfortunately I got a pretty bad cold so I haven't been able to search for the medallion yesterday or today. Hopefully by tomorrow or the next it hasn't been found and I'll have another shot at it. I'm guessing me getting sick had something to do with climbing the steepest part of Highland Park three times and overturning a buttload of leaves/looking in just about every tree nook by the recreational center (the one with water slides). Maybe I came in contact with one too any animal feces :frown: I did find a couple of interesting things. I saw three deer run around in the middle of the day through the park. I found this Hobo tent thing. Then I found two old boots hidden in the snow. I thought they had a lot of potential but there was only a tool inside one of them.

I think people are still thinking Highland but I've heard a couple of other things. I've heard Battle Creek, Acorn, Como of course, and Cherokee. I think the clues still best fit Highland, but the park is just so damn big that puck is going to be a bitch to find.

Pioneer Press confirmed all the Pirate Medallions are out. I guess we just need to start checking parks that they would hide them at that no one would go searching for a medallion in.

BC has Cross-Country skiing.

I'm a dog park user, and the skiiers don't like us.

John Moriarty from RC Parks doesn't like caches in the dog parks. I bet he would not like a medallion in the dog park. I'd stay outside the fence.

totally agree. just the parking lot playground ice rink and ball fields are afton heights

there is a police gun range south of the park. can hear gunfire all summer not sure if they use it in the winter though.

The county work house and the firing range are practically in BC. I used to live over there and you hear gun shots all day. I was thinking the same thing about the cracking and the gunshots. I really don't want to search that park though...

there are no train tracks near BC not the maplewood part anyway. and never have been as far as i know.the farthest west part of the park in st paul is down by 61 and there are train tracks along the river down there

When I think again on the dog park, John Moriarty didn't want caches cuz he didn't want dog people being freaked out by non-dog people poking around. Maybe you should "do as the romans do" and bring a dog with you to dig in the dog park!

I have proved that sometimes a nasty dirty frozen diaper is not "treasured lore" but actually a nasty dirty smelly frozen diaper

Love this. My dog came hunting with me yesterday. We found no pucks, but she found a plastic water bottle that she was thrilled with!

What about Acorn park? only been there 1x in 1981 (repeat?) interfacial= finish at rice? Crack the nut- acorn

This is prolly neither here, nor there- but... I was playing darts last night. Cricket. A triple score is when you close out the number.

Closing out. or finishing something? provides a clue?

It still is the border of St. Paul and quite likely the interfacial road.

good info! I also noticed...there used to be train tracks/station IN BC...

The Highwood Station on Newport Avenue (now Point Douglas Road) in St. Paul, ca 1910.

I thought there used to be tracks!

The railroad in BC was the st paul city line. A commuter line than ran from downtown to dayton's bluff,

then south along what is now point douglas road to highwood station and oakland station..

yeah but that's at the lower end, not the upper end.

Which is good! I would rather have the upper section to search. I am fearing that bc is the red herringy

So things are starting to look good for BC but where is the best place to search? That park is huge.

Okay, so I'm warming up to BC. I was wondering, how does the Rome/Roman clue fit BC?

Interesting, I always thought they used blood gulch. Well if that's it, it'll be the first Halo reference in a hunt clue.
Thu, 01/26/2012 - 11:56 AM Permalink
kevin

they used blood gulch for the first season. there are apparently 6 seasons and each season is a different map. battle creek is the third season. yeah i think its a stretch but when it popped up in google i figured id mention it

Highland..overlooking W 7th..that part of the park. from parking lot by the swimming pool you go to the right into a ravine and up the other side and it's there in a log. I am certain it has probably been found many times by now..just hope no one ran home with it all excited..after the hunt I may check again...

The Dog Run Area of the Maplewood section of Battle Creek park is only about 1/4 of that territory max. Plenty of places to hide it in there away from the puppies.

Was going to get up early and go out to dig today before work, but got stuck with 4 hours overtime last night - so I didn't get to bed til after 5am.

I wanted to take Thurs-Fri off SO BAD, but I already have M-W off next week which I can cancel if the medallion is found early. I have to keep reminding myself in years past when I've taken more than the three days off I've usually regretted using up so much vacation time (escpecially when you spend 10 hrs digging in the wrong park

I think the clues are fitting BC the best... although there are compelling arguements for others as well. I'm just hoping this isn't another Indian Mounds hunt where the first 7-8 clues fit wrongs parks better than IM wherein today's clue means ... "there are plenty of open areas where the sun shines" or the dog reference means "many people use the park like dogwalkers".

Where is the ski jump at BC?
Thu, 01/26/2012 - 12:38 PM Permalink
kevin

if you follow white bear ave to its furthest south point. the jump, or what remains of it are just south of the end of the road. the medallion was found there last year near the bottom

I couldn't find stage one, not sure what the "keys" are, but that area is heavily hunted. I see Mikey found the final. I must have been looking in the wrong place(s).

During day one we found 9 Pirate minis. On day two, we plucked two more. Since those days I have not found any, and that's because the snow hid them well. With all the melting today, I suspect more will be found. Good luck!
