2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

King Boreas aka Ian

No, I have a LOT of events there. Some eat; some don't. It's never been a problem.

I'm curious if this is the first "pact" group to find the medallion. I read through a few of the finder descriptions on the CC site, and it seems if it was a group who found it, they came together (siblings, sport teammates, friends) and yes, only one found it, but the group came together and one of that group found it. I think where people are having issue here is that all these people were doing their own thing (maybe talking to each other, maybe noodling here together, but no more than I, or anyone else here did) and meet up in the park, made a pact, and one of that group happened to find it. There's a difference between those two, I don't know if I explained it well, but I think that's where some people are having issue with the multiple finders.

I thought overall it was a great hunt. It lasted 11 clues without resorting to a 12th. It took place in a great park and didn't relegate us to the deep woods even if some of us went there anyway. The clues kept people guessing all the way without being too obscure. Though I think the clues would have been better had the explanations not been posted. Who writes a clue about a handicapped parking space?

As for the finders, I'm sure there was some group effort there. I bet Alex and Jake helped get him to the right area. I think the prize division tells the story as the guy considered the others 5% finders. Jake certainly deserves that credit. But I don't know that anyone will refer to him as a 3 time finder without putting mental asterik after it.

BTW, the day my wife had Carter in the park for some sledding and to see daddy, I was 10 feet from the medallion.

I kept thinking to myself please let me find this so i can go and celebrate with my son... I WAS LITERALLY 10 feet.

Oh Becks, Don't say that! Gives him the perfect excuse to play all Brett Farve on us!

Three time Finder "Must" Retire! He said it himself....I think.

His Knees and Hoein' Arm have got to be Shot. What team would take him for next year.

Thinking of starting a Fantasy Hunt League ...... :pbpt:

Its funny, the whole Jake 3 time finder thing is now very similar to me and whether i am considered a 2 time finder... some people think so and some dont.

The Hunt ended at the right time; I am a full-time Grad student at Hamline University and classes start for me tomorrow! Plus I write about the Academy Awards for the Twin Cities Daily Planet and I am swamped with that. I have been out to the Red Carpet past two years and will be there again this year. Hectic time.

If this were a sport, one person would get the goal and others would get credit for the assist. But we don't have such distinctions so it gets murky.

I know the first time it was your noodle about Cleveland that pointed Jake to that spot, hence why he gave you credit for the find, and that I'm OK with cause it was one specific noodle from one specific person that led one finder to the clue. And if I remember right Jake insisted on giving you credit for the find because of that. I don't remember what the story was at Lilydale when you two found it.

Cute story about the Find on WCCO News at Noon.

It was just that Lange guy that found it, but each guy in the group made a deal that whomever found it the others in the group would get $500, and the finder the rest. WCCO did say the Find was "credited to just one guy." and the reporter didn't say the other names. Pretty clear it was just Lange who found it by himself but part of a loose group. Lange found it and went back to his car, by himself, then called another group member on his cell to come see if it was the real deal.

On WCCO.

I've said many times when digging with others, that we would all be finders. Mind you, I don't find anything, and 99% of the time, I dig with my wife. But it's kind of like fishing out the same icehouse--It's Ok to split the fish, they are coming out the same hole.

I am just happy with my on-the-spot noodle Thursday night of as you like it equals Arden Forest. I still never trust them not to link back to Como though especially since Perry conducted similar activities at Como prior to moving to Arden Hills.

In Lilydale we were looking together as a team all morning.

That find has never been the ambiguous one, just the Hidden Falls one.

OK, then yes, I would consider you a two time finder. Jake would never have found it at Hidden Falls (at least not at that point) without your cLEVELand noodle. My impression of this years find was, it was just a loose group that had no direct connection. Maybe there was more to that group than meets the eye, I don't know, I'm giving the view from my side of the computer screen.

I know I'm new here this year, but I've been hunting for several years. I've had a ton of fun connecting with the people on this board, and found everyone welcoming. Thanks for helping to make this hunt awesome for me!

I'm looking forward to not breathing in a ton of cigarette smoke - I've woken up with a sore throat from all the smoke at the park.

yes, but the main reason for these boards was so we could separate ourselves from the "problems" on the PP board. To see someone taking something they see on our boards and run tattling to the pp sets me off. As for posting noodles here the same "problem people" and lurkers that are over on the pp can just pay $10 to "spy" and lurk and tattle on us because it's been made public knowledge that we use these boards. It just rubs me the wrong way these aren't cooler boards anymore they are public boards that cost $10

I apologize, that was worded poorly. I certainly didn't mean you can't share your opinion or no one cares what you think in general. I just meant historically they are going to be recorded as finders no matter what you say because the Pioneer Press are the ones that get to decide.

Whether you agree with it or not, it's not going to change anything so why not just be supportive of your friends that get to have a great experience?

But how do you ever patrol that? Apply for membership to the CC before you can access our boards? Doesn't that go against the "we're an open group to anyone" mentality that is the cooler crew? Really, how is posting a good noodle from the CC boards on the PP boards any different from the CC posting a noodle from the PP, or someone taking something form AWs group? If it's on the interweb, it's generally public information.

Even though I like the guy's personality, I don't even consider Brass Monkey to be a 1 time finder. At least according to my understanding, the first time he gave Jake the noodle that got him to the right area he wasn't even physically present when the puck was found! And even if he was it still wouldn't matter somebody else picked it up, not him. It was good for Jake to give him credit for helping him get there, but all Brassmonkey really did was help someone else find it instead of him. The second time he also contributed to Jake finding it. The fact that he has been there a couple of times right when the medallion has been found shows that he is a darn good treasure hunter, but sorry man, you haven't found the puck once. Yeah sometimes people need to share their thoughts because one person might know something the other doesn't and vice versa, but whenever a group (like the cooler crew) puts their heads in the middle to share knowledge it should be with the assumption that it's an all-for-yourself blood-hungry competition when the meat hits the bone. Now as far as crediting Jake and his little soldiers with a crown is hilarious to me. I mean dude the guy left right when he found it! Yeah he got a hold of them eventually but during the time he distinguished himself from the "group" when he went to search by the pines, picked up the clump of leaves, sat on the bench and started to break the ice, and exited the park and discovered he found the puck there was no moment in which the other group saw this even happen. Sorry Jake but you're still a 2 time finder. Better luck next year.

I enjoyed the hunt a lot this year, especially after last year when I was still lagging at Como.

As a new-comer to the CC, it was great to be a part of the conversation and camaraderie with y'all. I get so turned off by the idiots and all-out mean-spiritedness on the PP boards and facebook page. Seems as if the true spirit of the hunt is strongly represented here.

Sorry I didn't run into anybody personally out at the parks. I'm sure I saw your headlamps bouncing around out there somewhere last night.

Until next year!

Brassmonkey is a 1 time finder, and since Jake contributed nothing more than 5% to this find, he's still a two-time finder, plain and simple. Make him earn his third time finder title if he wants it that bad... this isn't the way to do it.

It also sounds like he soured some friendships he'll have to mend, so if that was worth it to him for $500 and more TV time, so be it. His choice.

<--- Still looking to buy a couple minis. PM me if you have any that you'd be willing to sell.

you are right to an extent, I am not very good with words, but suffice to say stuff like this is why so many coolers no longer post their noodles online at all because you don't know who is accessing these boards I'm don't want to share my info with just anyone. Someone got mad earlier in the hunt because they were questioned why they would post something so specific that nobody had gotten yet they said they just wanted a cooler to find the thing...well these aren't cooler boards anymore and thats why we question posting some types of noodles it affects us as a group because we just really don't share as much but unless I see you in a park or a bar and I know who you are I probably won't be sharing my info with you. it's not that I want to be secretive I'd love for a Cooler to pick it up and I'll share my original noodles with you in person.

If that's the way a majority of you feel, then maybe this board should just be ended and you can keep it between friends in person / on the phone, etc. But that goes completely against the so-called openness of the Cooler Crew, and would also close the door on many who choose to share their noodles WITH YOU on here (myself included). Then you'd be no better than that which you profess to hate: browsing the Press board for noodles to share with your closest friends.

The internet is the internet. Learn to live with the way it is or get off it. It's not like this is anything new.

But like I said, if that's how the Cooler Crew wants it..................

this all started today because I was bugged someone took something posted here (a picture) and tried to tattle to the press that the finder didn't run straight downtown with the find. It bugged me is all. I love the openess of crew but it seems we've had an influx of issues the past couple years stuff leaking from here out vice versa.
