I don't know a better way to say this....but I think NEXT year I'm going to get loaded off my a66 and than read the clues...I'll have an EXCELLENT shot at being 100% right...
this is the biggest bunch of crap I've ever read....unreal.
At least the clues got us to the right park, but the explanations are a bit on the abstract side...I agree with Kitch...get loaded and then it might all make sense (reminds me of my high school geometry days) :lipsealed:
You're telling me. Spent all my weeknights out in oakdale parks trying to make the clues fit somewhere (cept friday). I still say next year, 2 days off and I'll have every park in oakdale searched till I find it. Don't care how much time it takes, I'm thinking I won't even look at the clues, they're more meant to confuse than bring you to the spot.
“Pair” refers to Ted Bearth and Pete Graske, who live along Tanners
Park. “Grounded, close, and strong” = both Bearth and Graske like to
work in the yard (grounded), live near each other (close), and were both
mayors (strong) but the three words also refer to the metal culverts, one
of which held the medallion.
Last half of clue simply refers to things youÂ’d find at Summerfest (Lions
= vendors, Bears = Teddy Bear Band, and Whales = Johan and the
Whales) but also may draw some to Nature Center
YUP-I forgot to tell yah Becks...theres your whale !!!! DOH!
and even though its stupid for the mayors, it is good for the culverts...even though I'm pretty sure there were 3 of them not 2! 2 together and the one a little further over.
“Steer” = steering wheel = vehicle = parking lot
OMG!! how many steps do we need to take? WOW! 4?
“Learn” = proximity to a school
ummm, I never saw a school
..... whoa Tartan school = scotch tape
and the Hudson Rd thing- wow, we were thinking something natural to the east.
“Feet” = parade and “limbs” – trees
trees we got ...feet = parade? Wwwwhaaa? there is no parade that goes by that park. right?
Tanners Lake is guitar shaped ---DOH!
“Heavy metal rock” = culvert and Graske plaque in rock near culvert -this we got
“Fun in the sun” = beach ---Hey Beck! we got this one too !!!
so trees in a row, a rock with a metal plaque and the beach-thats why we were there.
Damn, I just realized that last night I had a dream about going past Tanners on 94 heading east, then seeing a school and remarking "oh, that's where the school is". I had forgotten about it until now.
Heh, I did search everywhere. I got an email back from Sue asking about what clues I thought were too cryptic...
I really don't know if she's in for my response, but I'm trying to be civil and fair about it. Maybe some positive changes can be made for next year.
So, I'll try to offer her some constructive criticism, since she was nice enough to inquire. I'm almost wondering if either she writes the clues, or knows who does...
it is extrememly difficult to get someone to understand and hear your concerns and then get them to act upon your thoughts, ideas and feelings in a positive and constructive way.
Well it's also extremely easy to read a flame mail and just toss it in the recycle bin
I've basically written a letter taking her exactly through my week. Omitted the hitting every park on Monday and Tuesday though, as I don't want it hidden worse next year.
I'm hoping they'll see things from my end, running around everywhere not knowing where to actually be.
Some are small and some are big.
Remember the rules have always been
No need to climb, swim, or dig.
The medallion hunt is brought to you by
Our generous sponsor, the OBPA.
TheyÂ’re the movers and shakers in the city,
And the $1,500 prize they pay.
Reiterates official rules.
“Hunt” references tanning a hide = Tanners.
“Movers and Shakers” references the OBPA changing the long-standing
ice fishing contest to a winter picnic and also moving the event from
Tanners to Walton park

ItÂ’s only natural this would be close by.
And heading east finds the same.
The floor to the north made it stick,
Since thatÂ’s how it got its name.
The faces might go unnoticed.
The names weÂ’re betting you know.
Dwell on this and youÂ’ll envision
Feet and limbs all in a row.
“Only natural” = Naturalist Henry Hudson = Hudson Boulevard
“Heading East” = Hudson, WI
“Floor to north made it stick” = Tartan High School named, in part, to
donation from 3M – makers of Scotch tape.
“Faces” = Again refer to Bearth and Graske

“Dwell” – their homes by Tanners Park

The harvest brings to mind to say,
Got lemons? Make lemonade.
Working up a sweat wasnÂ’t easy,
But it made for lots of fun in the shade.
Hendrix, Townsend, Van Halen, and Page.
They know heavy metal rock.
Before he was king and still just a boy,
He lived in this cityÂ’s block.
Big plans are underway.
The changes may affect the sight.
But when all is said and almost done,
The lights will still be bright.
Ice in Tanners was harvested in winter for use in iceboxes in the summer.
Four well-known guitar players – Tanners Lake is guitar shaped.
“Heavy metal rock” = culvert and Graske plaque in rock near culvert
“King” refers to Elvis who hails from Memphis = south = southern part
of the city
Clue refers to cityÂ’s new housing rehabilitation program in Tanners area.

To get to the bottom of the puzzle,
Study every word on every line.
They looked stranded but got away,
To find it, youÂ’ll need to shine.
Darkness and ways to see clearly.
Many stories to be found.
Seventh medallion hunt this year,
Don’t risk your neck and not go ‘round.
This year weÂ’ve picked a park
That has several views, not just one.
ThereÂ’s no better place to be,
To have some fun in the sun.
“Bottom” = south end of city.
“Study” = another reference to school. “Line” = fishing term.
“Stranded” = former goat farm at Strand property near park
“Shine” = may need flashlight when looking inside culvert
Clue refers to west side of Tanners: “Darkness” = black = Blackie’s,
“See Clearly” = Harmon Glass, “Many stories” = condos. “Seventh” =
take 7th Street but avoid Glenbrook cul-de-sac, go to main parking lot.
Clue tells you that park can be seen from more than one location.
“Fun in the sun” = beach

Sun.
7 a.m.
Park at Tanners, the courts on your right.
Find the path and stroll toward the lake.
If you miss it, double back.
From there itÂ’s yours to take.
HeÂ’ll give you a tree,
But not the $1,500 prize.
Roll past the rock,
And youÂ’ll be wealthy and wise!
Turn your gaze downward,
Tunnel vision youÂ’ll need.
The medallion is within reach,
Congrats, itÂ’s yours indeed!
See the fountain,
Then look west.
We left it in the culvert,
The medallion of Summerfest!
Tells you best place to park.
“Double back” = pair of culverts
“He’ll give you a tree” = Pete Graske dedication rock near culvert
Look down for “tunnel” = culvert
Looking west while standing at the drinking fountain, culv

....this is goona be so easy next year! Better be lots of room at that bar... :frown:
I think we started to do that with Roseville last year and look what happened.
I really don't know if she's in for my response, but I'm trying to be civil and fair about it. Maybe some positive changes can be made for next year.
So, I'll try to offer her some constructive criticism, since she was nice enough to inquire. I'm almost wondering if either she writes the clues, or knows who does...
I'd suggest she just brings them to a 3rd party and have that person read them....and see what the 3rd party thinks...
I've basically written a letter taking her exactly through my week. Omitted the hitting every park on Monday and Tuesday though, as I don't want it hidden worse next year.
