I think some evil villain probably stole it.... most likely it was a ghost, or some kind of mummy.... it'll probably end up being someone under a goofy rubber mask, though...

Whew! I swear, all I've done for weeks is take pictures. ...And sleep.
No end in sight, either. Oh well- the $ will be nice, when I have time to spend it...
Spring is springing!!!!
I'm wondering when to peel the straw off my tulip beds.
Anyone know? East exposure, next to the house.

I've never covered my tulips.  Am I supposed to??  Anyway, mine on the south side are already a couple of inches tall.  The leaves that sprout first are pretty frost resistant.

You didn't happen to take any pictures in Inver Grove last week did you KT?

I planted my first tulips last year.  Actually the fall before last.  Are they annuals or am I supposed to save the bulbs every year and replant in the fall?  If that's the case, I guess I won't be seeing any tulips around my house anymore.

Just leave them in the ground.  They bloom every year.  I throw everything out there.  Bulbs from pots I get for gifts and even Easter lilies.  I get Easter lilies in my garden sometime in July.

Thanks for the info. I cover my bed cuz I have irises in there. It's also the bed where I put my dahlia bulbs. I've had issues with some of the tulips not being able to push up thru the mulch, so this year I used straw, and want to uncover them. I'm getting stoked for the flowers!!!
Last fall I tilled the whole south fence line and planted 35 different types of iris. There's a woman near my house who grows iris for Bachman's. She's like 100 years old, sharp as a stick, and got me hooked on planting them.

CM- I could have, but to tell the truth, I never remember which schools I was at from week to week. What was the name of the school?

Heh- yesterday I did a Catholic school, and today I go to a Jewish one. L'chaim!

Sounds like you have a nice garden KT. I have gardens all around the house with perenials. Tulips will multiply, so you may want to dig them up every three or four years and divide the bulbs up more. I just leave mine. I have a lot of asiatic lillies that I love. Just cut off the whole top and put in a vase and you have an instant boquet. I think my ground is still frozen here, but haven't gone out to check. Usually the stuff is 3-4 inches already.

KT, when/if you thin your iris - or that Stick Lady gives up more - would you remember me?  Iris are my favs...  Last summer I seemed to get iris borer in almost all my iris.  WWWAAAAA!  Most were given to me by MJ, but some I bought when the-then-open Parks had a hail sale.  I had iris with varigated leaves, rebloomers...  Some with flowers bigger'un my fist...

Planted iris and complentary lilies (days are my favs, but Mr. Mikey?  I'll take any asiatic you wanna give away!!!) with them...  GORGEOUS!

Iris, lilies, phlox, hosta.  My collectibles one can't have too many of.  :D

Mikey!  WOW!  That asiatic you dug up is beautiful!

I once had a Turk's Cap lilly.  It didn't make it.  Have you seen the trout lillies?  Sometimes you find them in parks.  They're really neat!

Incidently here's a close up of one of my plants  ;-)

Ian likes to help me work in the garden every now and again.  He's good like that.

Very pretty garden you have there Mr. Mikey.  I'm inspired now!  I try to do the same thing....choke out the weeds with flowers.  Speaking of flowers, I'm going to run to Gerten's today to buy my three plant Easter Lily.  They usually have them marked down half price by now.

Mikey, aren't they gorgeous?  They need woodsey, wettsey, humus-y growing conditions.  I just love them.  They're so simple and elegant.

Astilbe.  (Also comes in pink and red.  Mine doesn't do well, even in the shade, as that part o'my yard's so damn dry.)  And izz that a wieglia - the red one?  Nice contrast!  Where you live?  I'm not above donin' some moonlite digging while you sleep!  :D

Really, Violet?  I'm not that fond o'it, but for the shorter hybrids.  Falls over too much.  I do like the kind that's multicoloured - reminds me o'lantana.
