Typically if they were going to do something with the first letters, it would be for only one clue or for all of them, though of course they are free to break

I agree. I think playground is figurative and roam suggests a big park.

There is Rome ave which runs into Highland park but can't connect that with the new Pioneer Press location.

What I get from #3: By the legend St. Paul is the playground. It's not in a burb.

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully).
