Near the tennis courts at Indian mounds (swing on down) there are supposedly three River Birch trees that provide quite a bit of shade... So I'm told

PPTH warning

5 years 6 months ago
I saw on the PP Treasure Hunt forum on facebook a warning from them to stay off/out of the Indian mounds area in IMP. Sorry to hear that some hunters don't understand what is off limits.
But, if the treasure isn't at IMP, wouldn't the PP Treasure Hunt have said to stay away from the park completely? Makes me think it is there.
Then again, I can see reasons for Highland Park. The three bodies water (3 water towers there), traipse (trapise=trapeze?), swing down (from a trapeze?)=Circus Juventus, the (Highland) games, (kin=clan), water up above (the water tower), and lower (the river), you won't need a (swimming?) suit (the Highland pool or aquatic center). Is 'booya' (the booya kettles there) a Russian word?
I think the three bodies (of) water (if that's what the clue writer meant) are all in the same park, though. So, is "up above" and "lower" a map reference (Phalen/Keller Regional park), or a physical elevation reference (Battle Creek Park, Indian Mounds Park, Crosby Farm, or Hidden falls parks)?

The fairgrounds are off limits because they aren't technically in Ramsey County. To elaborate, state law specifically defines the fairgrounds as not being part of any political subdivision.

I noticed that the State Fair grounds was not included in the rules. I had thought it was off limits. Is it now open for medallion hunting???

It was just outside the zoo a few years back. I was not saying it is inside the conservatory. They just give you markers in the clues.

Top 5 Parks

5 years 6 months ago

It seems here on Clue 8 we are definitely not settled on a park yet. Here are the top 5 at the moment in the Park Pick Pool:

Mounds - 50 votes
Phalen - 40 votes
Bruce Vento - 35
Highland - 27
Battle Creek -27

I didn't discuss Battle Creek yesterday, though last night's clue has certainly drawn some people there. Afton is a river among other things so water above and below might certainly make one think of Upper and Lower Afton. Battle Creek is certainly winding and it does start and stop as it hops above and below ground. I think the clues are saying the medallion is in St. Paul so you'd be looking on the St. Paul side of McKnight. I'm not sure who the tailor and surgeon over there would be though one might guess the summit/plummet clue is a ski jump reference. If you are in town, then going to Battle Creek would certainly be swinging down as it is pretty far south in St. Paul terms. I'm not feeling it that much, but I certainly wouldn't cross it off the list.

There's been some renewed interest in Harriet Island as well with the Mississippi and Water St. (which is the high one and which is the low one depends on if you mean by elevation or on a map). They used the word bower the last time it was there and in 1960 it was hidden there in a rubber boot. I think another year it was found by some guys in suits. I'm not sure about all the other clues there, but it may yet be a possibility.

Ok my mom used to play cards in like a bar league, they called it 500, not rummy, but I'm remember her talking about the right and left Bower so I looked it up....Then, the order of cards in the trump suit from highest to lowest is Joker, Right Bower, Left Bower, Ace, King, Queen, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, (4). Bower is an Anglicization of the German Bauer, a word meaning farmer, peasant, or pawn. This name is often used to refer to the jack of German games.
Ok so the 2 Bowers are the Jack'sDoes that helps anyoneJack's? Jack is a nickname for John. Wasn't there a Jack's bar? Maybe not, What else could be Jack's?Grand Ave comes down and points to that Upper Landing...Mississippi is above and below that, but that would include any Riverside Park sheeshSo walk among the Bower? Walk among the jacks?I had clues last year that led me to upper landing and then a little park near there. So does Jack's help anything along for anyone?

Don't forget the conservatory also if you like Como. It must be some place with a roof overhead because you will not get wet. Could be many parks again.

Re: Park Pick Pool Update

Yes, l had to make a decision. I have walked both landings and just picked a bigger park. I still think it is Highland and they are making it difficult. But then l am mentally disturbed in my old age. Lol....actually don't want to drive that far up north. I decided to stay home and rest my hip, back and knees from hurting climbing over snow burrs and walking in the snow. I have not found that tree trunk  in HL however and checked out the bark patterns against the screen shot l took in the beginning. Didn't find it in Hidden either but kept near parking because my hips hurt. The snow sucks up little old folk yah know following that hopping rabbit down, down that hole.

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
