The Allison Wonderland

It's a weird feeling this morning. I was quite confident on Phalen and of course it sucks to be wrong. But I felt so much made sense there in a harmonious way. Highland I really never considered much. Even now I still don't get how the clues fit there. Even after reading Rose's explanations, it was like she was speaking in a foreign language. Some people's explanations of Highland still make me think, "No, it's at Phalen". I have a feeling the clue explanations will prove more painful. So in a sense I don't feel too bad. Some of you were on Highland, but let's face it, some of you are always on Highland, lol. People were all over the place and people had good explanations for those various parks. At this point I don't see how Highland was a *better* fit. It might have been worse. So even though many of us were wrong, I do think we all did a good job of working the clues and coming up with good theories. It was educational. I think it was still fun having such a debate about the park go on until the very end.

There is a press conference at the PP at 11am I think. The Rehash Bash is Sunday at 11:30am at Newell Park. And the Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt will be in March. I hope everyone found this forum useful even if I did push you into the wrong park. I think the new venue worked out fine. And for those of you who will be bailing out soon, hopefully we will see you next year.

Sorry....it was was not me. In fact l got a phone call last night. My 98 year old mother has suddenly gone downhill and l gotta pack to fly out to see her. David l will sadly not be at Rehash bash which l had planned to attend. Yep, l still had Highland in my mind because of the towers,  swim holes, Frisbee, police station (guarantor) Syndicate str. (GRU).

Park Pool Winner

I'm hearing more reliable confirmations that it was indeed found in Highland (even if I was sure it was Phalen). That being the case, the winner of the Park Pick Pool, (with a perfect score no less!!!) is MN Red! She gets the $100 prize as soon as we can figure out how to get it to her.

Re: Medallion Found!

I was pretty much there. There is a walking path between the holes right south of the Edgecumbe bridge and I think it was on the western side of it. I was digging on the eastern side of it and a couple without any tools were looking around. They split up and then met back up and I saw something get flashed between them while I was around 30 feet away. They then took off.

That’s where I went tonight as soon as the paper came out. And I knew as soon as I got there that it would be found tonight. Mad props to the finder!

I don't want to rain on the finders parade so I'll let them elaborate, but I got a call a little while ago from someone I trust saying that it was at Highland in the ravine near the bridge where Edgecumbe turns east off of Hamline.

Coming Up...

6 years 2 months ago
So if it was indeed found and the hunt is actually over, I want to point out some upcoming dates before people scatter...

This Sunday, starting at 11:30 we will be having our annual Rehash Bash at Newell Park. It's a potluck event that takes place indoors at the Newell pavilion. We have door prizes and entertainment as well so it is usually a good time. It will be over before 3pm so you will have plenty of time to get to your Superbowl parties.

Then in March keep an eye out for The Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt. It is another 12 clue hunt written by me. The prize is not as large, but if you need a hunting fix, this will be your chance. I will post the details about it in this group and on Facebook sometime soon.

No details yet but the PP admin just posted on Facebook that it was found. Rumor is it was at Highland? We'll see.

Re: Clue #10 - 2020

After some research (not being a golf player) I have discovered there is something called a pitch shot which is the opposite of a chip shot. A chip shot goes in the air for a bit and then rolls. A pitch shot goes in the air for a while and then doesn't roll very much. Technically though a putt is never a pitch as they are two different shots so I'm still a little lost there.

Going back to clue 3 I see now I missed something. Doffing your cap is almost certainly a reference to Clarence "Cap" Wiggington as Clarence St. next to Phalen.

Hey secretrose,
We should have stuck with Highland all the way. Putts that are pitches could refer to disc golf. There's is the ped. bridge that crosses Montreal Ave. And hunter's itches reminds me of this Irish song I heard at the Irish Fest once. This 'Scottish' version is from some Renaissance Fair. Makes me think of Highland Fest/Games. Could the Circus Juventus fit some of these clues?

Clue #10 A lover’s fix under tangle of sticks The medallion scratches hunters’ itches. Where bridge spans a gap; nearby a trap. Line up putts that are pitches

What if pitches was Frisbee golf and trap is trapeze? I couldn't find anything on clue 9 at Highland but there was  Griggs (coal man) street 2 blocks north. We still don't know the park. BV, SH, Phalon, Como most likely. That is a lot for being so late.

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
