Did anybody see the special on PBS last night about The Hindenburg? It was really interesting. In a nutshell, this NASA hydrogen specialist thinks that hydrogen was not the cause of the explosion. He did some research, and found the Germans were experimenting with a new coating for the zeppelin, a combination of powdered aluminum and iron oxide. Now, we know years later that these are the two main ingredients in the solid rocket boosters the Space Shuttle uses, but at the time they had no idea they were painting the outside of the blimp with rocket fuel. Combine this with an unusually strong static charge in the air that day and what amounts to a faulty ground in the framework, and kablooie. Hydrogen just fueled the fire, but the thing would have gone up even if it had been filled with helium.
this weekend I was at a garage sale-a man was eyeing a box of newspapers under a table, he walked away and I took a peek-I asked the owner what he thought was a fair price for the whole box of newspapers-(note:it was humid as all get out and I really didnt want to sift through them-so I just wanted them all)...the original guy looking said "I am interested in those too" (ahhhhhhh, great now the price will probly go up and I will lose)...it just happened that the guy only wanted some magazine type papers on the top-I wanted all the rest...so the guy offered the owner $10 bucks and I said 'take his $10 and I'll give you $20 for the rest"...the owner tells the guy..."$15?" -(note: he TOOK my offer and didn't try to raise me -cool)...and, he threw in everything else I was gonna buy from him (which all the extras will go up on EBay that WILL pay for my newspapers and more :)). I was sifting through a few last night...WOW~ Now, occasionally you will here me talk about an article in one of these papers---wait til you here the landfall I got. anyhow the story of SOME PEOPLES KIDS...
This was front page news :)....
back in 1950's...2 boys went door to door in West St Paul requesting money to bury their now dead 1 year old brother. They needed $15 to bury him and the funeral home said they would hold onto the body til they came up with the $$$. People called authorities thinking the boys were scamming them. The police found out it was TRUE...Their brother died a few days before and there dad had died 6 months prior and mom was having trouble with $$. She did not want to ask for handouts. She did not know her boys were trying to raise the money. The boys had already raised over $8---The police department took a collection and came up with the rest to pay for the burial.
Can you believe it only cost $15--I wanted to help them while I read the story! Geesh, 'some peoples kids'...I would love my kids to have that much love and compassion for eachother.
oh, and if you come across old papers or have some you want to get rid of---I absolutely love to read them before I go to bed-please send them my way...I will love you...my husband won't :)
Me2- Would you like to go to my Grandpas (in SSP) with me sometime? I've been (slowly) going through his basement trying to empty it, they were packrats, and I know I saw some old newspapers and magazines. You can have them if you want, he just wants to get rid of everything, but I would like it if they go to someone who will appreciate them :)

You know what the world needs?
A ventriloquist-yodeler.
A guy or gal who could "throw" their voice and make mountain warblings come out of unusual places.
Say the pants of the dude in front of you at the
Wal-Mart checkout.
Love your avatar, Bud!

I saw parts of that, Frosti.
What was interesting is, the German's did realize this right afterwards but no one knew they knew.
Yep, they did the same tests 60 years ago, but hushed it up, because it would have been an embarrasment to the Reich.
.........because it would have been an embarrasment to the Reich.
The Reich be embarassed? Naw!

I'd hate to get into a bidding war with you Bud. You go for it! :)
He should be paying, not the other way around.
It's gotta be a joke. It's just gotta be.
I saw one where a guy was offering his wife as "sex-toy for a day" to the highest bidder, trying to raise money for a downpayment on a house.
Oh my God. Some people's kids.
