:: can't..... resist ::

on a dark, desert highway
cool wind in my hair
warm smell of colitas
rising up through the air

up ahead in the distance
 i saw a shimmering light
my head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
i had to stop for the night

there she stood in the doorway
 i heard the mission bell
and i was thinking to myself
"this could be heaven or this could be hell."

I'm hiding in the corner
Of an overgrown garden
Covering my body in leaves
And trying not to breath
All my childhood dreams
Are bursting at the seams
And dangling around my knees
I've been deformed by emotional scars
And the cancer of love has eaten out my heart
I've been stripped bare and nobody cares
And all the people I looked up to are no longer there
All desires have been denied to put me in this state of mind
Another year older and what have I done
My aspirations have shriveled in the sun
I'm crippled by guilt
Blinded by science
I've been waiting for tomorrow all of my life
All desires have been denied to put me in this state of mind
Another year older and what have I done
My aspirations have shriveled in the sun
I'm crippled by guilt
Blinded by science
I've been waiting for tomorrow all of my life
I've been filled with useless information
Spewed out by papers and radio stations
I've been hounded by fairweather friends

Sowing the seeds for my discontent
Life is like a sewer
And I'm trying to wade thru her
I threw in my money and made my wish
But sleeping boys catch no fish
All desires have been denied to put me in this state of mind
Another year older and what have I done
My aspirations have shriveled in the sun
I'm crippled by guilt
Blinded by science
I've been waiting for tomorrow all of my life

I loved that part of the commercial. I saw it not that long ago on TV land, ahh the memories. It's as cheesey of an ad as it was then.

You know something struck me now just thinking about all those adds for Mr. Microphone etc and all the other cheesey products that are out there.

Have you ever noticed that all that junk is STILL 19.95 plus shipping and handling ? It's the only products in the world not prone to inflation. I mean that worthless crap has been 19.95 plus s&h sorry no cod's for about 25 years now. Just an observation

Now that you mention it....... I think you're right.

Plus I think it's the same voice over guy since 1974.

Maybe nobody would pay more than $19.95 for that stuff and that's why it's uneffected by inflation ?

How about a Beatles medley?

Dear Prudence,

Won't you come out to play?
It's been a hard day's night (but)
Here comes the sun.
I'm looking through you, you're not the same.
I should have known better with a girl like you.
The long and winding road that leads to your door,
Took (me for) a ride, I didn't know what I would find there.
Do you want to know a secret?
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I didn't need anybody's help in any way.
Still my guitar gently weeps
Cause I've been in love before and found that love was more than just holding hands.
Oh girl.
Had it been another day I might have looked the other way.
Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?
The sun is up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful, and so are you.
Open up your eyes girl, tell me what you see.
Don't you realize girl, what you see is me?
Yes it is, yes it is, yes it is, oh yes it is, yeah.
Love you every day girl, always on my mind.
I want to hold your hand.
I know this love of my mine will never die.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm sixty-four?
These days such a kind girl is so hard to find.
Tell me that you don't want no diamond rings
Say you love me too,
And one sweet dream came true today.

P.S. I love you

Allison - that was great! Definately my favorite!

It's Finally Friday!!!!!!

I found this in my email this morning. I thought it amusing for a Friday morning somehow.

Who was the Robert in Robert's Rules of Order?

Probably a control freak, anal-compulsive to the max. According to him, you can't make a move without a motion, clear your throat without a point of order, or wipe up the floor with some dunderhead unless you have the floor in the first place.

Henry Martyn Robert got started early doing things by the book. An 1857 graduate of West Point, he became an Army Engineer, eventually returning to the Academy to head its engineering department. By all accounts, he had a colorless career – surprise! – and became interested in parliamentary procedure while spending time in New Bedford, Massachusetts during the Civil War. Maybe it had something to do with whales.

He published his book about how to engineer meetings in 1876. Later he rose to the rank of Brigadier General. And that's it. Well, at least you learned something. I bet you thought his first name was Robert.

On that note...Have a way cooler Friday everyone!

Howdy! I haven't had to slog this much for a long time!!! Is it too late for me to add "Daddy was a cop, on the east side of Chicago. Back in the USA, back in the bad old days. In the heat of the summer niiigght, in the land of the dollar bill..." Hope life has been good to you. Terry V, is it too late to glimpse the aurora? I,m finally able to get outta town this weekend, and the skies look good. I'm hoping to see a row of planets, as well. Artemis, how is Tonya? (and you, and Mar.)

nope. i missed 'em the other day when someone brought 'em in to work :( haven't been sufficiently ambitious to drive to maple grove to get 'em either. besides, my waistline doesn't exactly need 'em anyway.

Fri, 05/03/2002 - 7:59 AM Permalink

I heard that! But you can have one of these cyber Kremes, with no ill effects. Here, chocolate-topped, jam- filled.

Terry

I'm supposed to be working...sshhhhhhh...but had to breeze through while the backup is going on here.

KT - There have been no major solar flares on the earth directed part of the sun in the past few days - unless anything occurred today - to trigger aurora borealis activity. Never hurts to keep an eye skyward - and those planets are something way cooler to see.

So really....what's so special about those Krispy Kreme donut things anyways?

Fri, 05/03/2002 - 1:47 PM Permalink
ares

terry, your secret's safe with us :)

i've yet to figure out what's so special about them. i seem to recall jt saying something about them tasting like any other donut to him. finding out for myself right now would require a trip all the way to the other side of the metro.

actually, i think the biggest deal of them is that krispy kreme originally started here in minnesota, and has come back. i think.

Sure glad to be out of that work place this week! Nothing better than Finally Friday after Five!!!

I know I'm not likely to drive to the other side of town for a donut. Let them open a place by me and then I'll try 'em. I just can't believe they're anything better than a donut you can get at any bakery.

We're driving north tonight. Looks like a fairly decent weekend weather wise coming up.

Fri, 05/03/2002 - 4:12 PM Permalink
Terry

Our drive north has been delayed. We may not make it up till morning - if we get there at all. A friend of ours is in a bit of a crisis so Inks is spending some time with him. I'm supposed to be sleeping so I can drive later - but I'm having a hard time turning the mind off in order to snooze.

Fri, 05/03/2002 - 8:50 PM Permalink
ares

that sucks, terry. even if the mind doesn't turn itself off tonite, and you do manage to make it up north tomorrow, i can guarantee that it won't turn itself off mid-drive. that's just how it works.

hope your friend comes through his crisis safe and sound.

Thanks Ares.

Inks' brother committed suicide about 20 years ago. Another close friend committed suicide about 3 months later. This friend doesn't seem to be quite at that point, but it's not been a good day. Brings all the old stuff back to mind.

Terry, I'm sorry to hear about your friends (past and present), its good that your friend has people like you and Inks who will be there for him.

Depression is a hard thing to deal with, whether you're going thru it your self or watching someone you care about go thru it, and seems to be more prevalant (or maybe more recognized) than it used to be. We all wish we had the answers to make it better, its natural to want to help those we care about, but when we don't have the answers we do what we can. Just being there for someone and letting them know how much we care can be a tremendous help.

KT, we're good, Tonya's about the same- riding the prescription rollercoaster. Her husband beat her gave her a bunch of bruises, but "that's normal" isn't it? (Sometimes I just don't understand that girl, she realizes that he's no good for her, but isn't willing to let him go)

back from the camper! of course the first weekend we take gordy's kids with us his daughter tries to hang herself! they just planted new trees and they have twine holding them up, so what does she do? takes off running across the campground in the dark! caught her right across the neck and knocked her on her ass! then of course his boy gets hit in the head with a baseball! you can see the laces imprinted in his forehead! their mom is gonna think we beat em' up! oh well! we had fun anyway, now back to the grindstone!
