I think sleep will help me more than anything. I tossed and turned all night last night. Had funky dreams and all. I hate being sick. I got a test on Tuesday and it's very hard to study when you're brain isn't at full capacity.

I'll stop complaining now.

Good Afternoon!

This was one Monday I didn't dread as much as others. Sometimes just getting back to whatever normal is feels good, doesn't it?

THX - Hope you're feeling better. It's no fun being sick on vacation.

Junior Olympic National Tournament

Last year my son Kris qualified for the tournament in Reno. He finished 49th out of 600+ boys. This year he qualified for the tournament in Lakeland/Winter Haven, Florida.

Since Kollin would be going on the trip anyway, we had been trying to get him qualified as well. It's pretty tough competition for a 15 year old kid going against primarily college-age competition. After his fifth (and final) try for this year, he qualified last Sunday at Airport Bowl.

Toward the end of the nine game tournament, he was basically in head-to-head competition with a kid from St. Cloud State University. Lots of pressure, but he hung in there.

Me2- I am always working and always on vacation :)

Ain't that the life? :)
I started work at Merrill again last night, but only for a week this time. Then its vacation again until mid Aug, with a few flea markets and "extra" work thrown in more for fun than profit. I hope to spend as much time up north as possible! (which is alot of work, but also fun)

Way to go Kollin! Good luck to both your sons in Florida, Ian!

Good Morning!

Congratulations to Kris and Kollin...and to their proud Papa!! Good luck to all in Florida!!!!

Artemis - I hope you do get to be up north as much as you'd like to be. (I hope I can too.)

Hump day today. Only two more wakeups till Finally Friday!!!

Better keep on keeping on here. Have a way cooler day everyone!

As of yesterday I'm off work again. I had been working at US Bancorp on a contract basis creating some custom applications for them in Access. I think the last one I did worked out pretty nicely. I was about to start a big one that would have taken about a month possibly, but then a directive came down from above to get rid of all their contractors everywhere. So now here I am at home again. I'm actually rather enjoying the time off, though I could stand to be making more money. Maybe I can work on a summer hunt with this time off.

so you're, as my brother says, a computer jockey, huh, aw? i wish i could say we were hiring here and to send me your résumé (cuz i'll be more than happy to take any hiring referral bonuses i can get my hadns on :), but we've basically got a hiring freeze going on through at least july.

Well I've been a temp worker for the last two and a half years, and though it wasn't supposed to be part of my job exactly, I built up a lot of skills in developing Access applications. In the last month I've been trying to see how I do at doing strictly that as contract work. But it doesn't seem to be a good time to be doing that as more companies are looking to get rid of people than add them. But I also do customer service work and I'm pretty good at that, so I'm also looking in that area.

Evenin' Sams.

Hope all is well?

So far my vacation has consisted of being sick with a cold & working 14 hour days on the porch. We should wrap it up tomorrow though and I'm feeling much better tonight.

All is right with the world. :-)

Glad you're feeling better THX. It's a good feeling to get stuff accomplished - and getting over a cold.

Allison - Sorry that the job thing is giving you some problems.

I swore when the snows quit, I wouldn't complain...but wouldn't it be nice to see the sun?!?

evenin' ralph.

get your butt back indoors man. you shouldn't have been working on the porch in the cold rain!

i'm tying up the last knots before i finally convert my linux server to run windows 2000. my old 486 is gonna perform the firewalling duties that the server performs now.

and all is not right with the world. a couple of weeks ago i bid on a 512meg compact flash card for my camera on ebay. i sent the check off to delaware. it cleared and my card was allegedly shipped last wednesday morning. shoulda been here on saturday. i got an email from someone else who won an item from this seller. turns out there's a club of 8 of us who've been shafted by this seller. thankfully i don't delete email. so when the ebay waiting period expires, i'm gonna send a stack of paperwork to the seller, ebay, the attorneys general of minnesota and delaware, and the us postal inspector. anyone want to give odds on the seller spending some time in leavenworth?

Wed, 05/08/2002 - 6:00 PM Permalink
Terry

Ares - Sorry that happened to you. I don't get much from ebay - and what I do bid on are cheaper things that won't break the bank if I were to get the shaft. So far so good - but then it only takes once.

Did you read the comments? Were any of the negatives you've received since any part of those comments?

Only two more wakeups till Finally Friday. Better go get some shut eye to take care of one of those.

Goodnight and SCDs!

she had one comment from one of the people who got shafted. unfortunately, for me (and him for that matter), he left that comment too soon, because he got screwed too.

that's all ok with me. i'll be able to take advantage of ebays buyer protection plan, which will get me most of my money back, but i hope this woman looks good in orange. :)

well, given that the guy *looks* like he's wearing a hard hat, and you mentioned farting, i'll drift over to the topic of construction site farting...

my brother was working at the new science museum installing seating in one of the auditoria. he was vacuuming up with the shop vac and about a 40 foot hose. he farted, gave the vacuum hose some thought and moved the aroma to the other side of the room where there were a couple of other guys there to cast blame at each other.

Moving aromas. Yet another use for the versatile shop vac.

Ever seen "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" Ares?

sadly, no. it's been on my to-watch list for an eternity though. might have to get ambitious and put the dsl connection to good use this weekend :)

That explains it then. The avatar is a scene from that movie. A frenchman taunting the lads from the battlements of his castle. I would highly recommend it.

What's Up in Space -- 12 May 2002
Subscribe to Space Weather News!

GEOMAGNETIC STORM: An unexpected interplanetary shock wave swept past Earth at 1000 UT on May 11th and triggered an ongoing G2-class geomagnetic storm. High-latitude sky watchers -- i.e., those in Northern Europe, Canada and across the northern tier of US states -- should be alert for auroras after local nightfall.

SUNSPOT ALERT: Sunspot 9934 has grown in recent days. It now covers an area of the Sun equal to six planet Earths. Twisted "delta-class" magnetic fields above the active region harbor energy for powerful solar flares. Forecasters estimate a 10% chance of X-class eruptions during the next 24 hours.
