It is an old wives tale. I was being silly, silly.

I was being silly too.

However, I have heard that cats will smother a baby because of the smell of milk on their breath. I know it's a wives tale but many still believe it.

When a friend of mine had a baby, she was afraid to let me babysit because of my cats.

Wrong, wrong, WRONG!

If that was the case, my 22 pound sweet kitty would have smothered me long ago, when he caught me napping after gorging on honey nut Cheerios.

It just ain't true, THX.

Cats are curious, true, but they aren't STUPID. They know that little thing is human. And most of them just want to know what it is, not commit homicide. And anyway, parents should not be letting pets into a baby's room while it is sleeping--any pets.

You've never met my cat Egbert. He gets real freaky around babies.

That's probably because you named him Egbert. That's enough to make anyone homicidal. ;)

Hey, I named all my cats after Kings.

I had six cats at one time. Henry, George, Louis, James, Egbert, & Lear.

My ex got the first three and Lear died.

We call Egbert "Burt" or "Eggyburt". James is "Jamebug".

Strange that my wife named her cat "Noble".

My vote is for Dogs.

Dogs have special senses and those talents can be cultivated into many different services for people. Dogs get great pleasure by serving people and being their companion. I like hearing about the dogs who are trained to detect epilepsy in people. They warn the person before the attack occurs, make them sit down, and lay carefully on the person until the attack has passed.

My favorite pet was a perfectly trained 1/2 black lab 1/2 german shepherd. The most intuitive, loving, smart, protective, yet friendly dog I have ever owned. He was so well trained I could tell him to lay down, put your head down and he would not move until I said ok, he could crawl, back up, and so much more.. He had a keen sense about people and stood in between me and a few people that looked ok on the outside but later proved not to be. He was a natural!

That was many years ago.

Now I have a boxer and a poodle.

My vote is still for dogs since the benefits still outwiegh the detractions but cats can be usefull from time to time. My garage has been taken over by chipmunks. And I can't stand no more. I borrowed my nighbors cat for a few days and he simply watches them as the chipminks run by giving him the finger. I need to borrow a swift deadly, preferrably clawed, hunting and killing machine to rid my garage of rodents. They have crossed the line and must pay. Anyone care to rent a cat for a couple days. I promise I will take good care of it and give it love. I love all creatures except the ones eating everything in my garage. This is in now way a vote change nor an endorsement of cats. simply put it's the best tool for this particualr job. You don't use a screwdriver to pound a nail.

Cats are NOT stupid.

They KNOW you don't like them. Why would they work for YOU!

Although my cat can be rented for $500/day, results guaranteed. :)

L.Lionne,

They KNOW you don't like them. Why would they work for YOU!

I like them, I just prefer Dogs, maybe they know that but I harbor no animosity towards them. I have owned cats and like them but prefer dogs. My neighbors cat loves me but is very very old and simply looked at the chipmunks with fascination and delight. The chipmunks if they could talk reminded me of the mice from Speedy Gonzalez as they would run past el'cato.

500 a day huh ? If they ruin anything else it might be a bargin.

Hmmm, it seems cats and dogs canplay nicely together ;)

But seriously, both cats and dogs are great for their own reasons.
We bring our cats up north with us to "protect" us from the various rodents (and they keep our house pest free). And when we leave the house (or I'm home alone)I never worry about anybody breaking in, as the dogs go crazy whenever anyone even approaches the house, and we have to put them in a seperate room if we have strangers(and some friends) over. I feel sorry for anyone stupid enough to try and break in (unless they had a gun, in that case they mighthave a chance.

Scribe went out with her Mom tonight, me and the daughter were playing Nintendo and I got a call.

It was Scribe, she had an excited voice and right away I thought something had happened. She says "Can we have a kitty". "NO!, I replied". She went on about how it was the last one in a litter of 7 and it needed a home.

THX: "NO!".

Scribe: "Please?".

THX: "NO!".

Scribe: "Please?".

THX: "NO!".

Scribe: "Please?".

I finally said, "You know I'm gonna give in anyway, so go ahead!".

No name yet. Pictures to come.

You should have gone with the "yes dear" right away. Saves the trouble of arguing with her. Ain't nobody gonna win that argument.

I won that argument for many months. I just knew I wasn't gonna win tonight.

Plus, they're so damn cute at that age.

and ya know what the worst part of that was: he lost 500 points for each no, when all he'd have lost for a "yes dear" was maybe 100.

speaking of "yes dear"s and points, does your fiancée use the points system, kids?

<edit>you've been winning it that i know of since at least the rehash bash.

THX, babies are so darn cute at that age too, but then they grow up and want to use the car and stay out late and cause you gray hairs and.... well you get the picture.

Ares, no, she doesn't use the point system. I don't see her using the point system in the future either.

from what i hear, you're supposed to keep the new cat separated from the old cats for like 2 weeks. same house, just different rooms.

so where are the pictures of the rest of your cats?

I could have. I can't say no to my wife. That's my problem.

He was just sitting on my lap and he noticed the arrow of my cursor moving around on the screen. He bolted for the screen and knocked over a couple pictures. I told him I wouldn't go for that sort of thing, set him down on the bed and he went to sleep right away.

Gosh he's fun! I haven't had a kitten in a long time.

What an adorable kitten! Does he have a name yet?

Once he starts to smell more like you and your house the other cats won't be so hissy, if they all use the same litter box that might helo too.

Oh, THX, don't you know I am having such a horrible case of kitten lust and you have to go and get an ADORABLE kitten!

My husband keeps telling me that our two older (10+ years) cats would be traumatized by a kitten, but I am so WEAK.

Gosh, I envy you!
