King Boreas aka Ian
Yesterday I received a letter from a collection agency.
In December 2000 I bought a P.O.S. ...Piece of Shit ...pager at Circuit City. It was $30.00 with a $30.00 rebate. To get the rebate, I had to add voice message and pre-pay 12 months. The total was $113.74- I wrote it off as a business expense for my antique shop.
The bonus that I didn't expect was that was number was a toll free call. I listed it on my web site, included in some advertising, and listed it on eBay. The problem is the other BS involved. Everyone had the same 800 number. After calling, a P.I.N. had to be entered. I think I got two calls in 6 months.
When I received a renewal bill, I cancelled (via e-mail) a month early. I got a reply requesting info, and answered it. I got a reply offering the same exact service for ONLY $59.00 ! and stating that if I don't take advantage of the offer, my account will close after 5 days.
These e-mails were on my other computer, now being used by my son. It is the one we took to Florida, so I had not un-installed Outlook Express. LUCKY ME !
This bill is from 12/2001, for $113.74
I never received this bill, and if it is a pre-paid service, how can I owe it? The letter is very threatening and demanding. In my next post, I'll copy my reply.

Dear Mr. Green,
Your letter was postmarked on 7/16/02 and I received it on 7/20/02. This letter was mailed on 7/22/02.
This is a formal notification that I dispute the validity of this debt. I would be very interested in any copy of judgment or verification, since I have copies of cancellation letters from a service representative. This letter, from Terrence H., communication specialist, was dated 11/8/01, and stated that service would be discontinued five days after that date.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that I am not paying the debt, and I have proof that I should not have to pay this debt.
This communication is from a falsely accused former customer of Positive Communications, and I find very little that’s positive about this whole matter.

way to go, ian. i'm the same way. i *never* delete email for anything. actually, i'm sure my employer would
<sarcasm> really appreciate that fact
<sarcasm> if they knew i saved all my mail there too.

Agreed, me2, now I expect bad things, so when they DON'T happen, I am pleasantly suprised... And I volunteer my son to do the music track for AW's song on his Korg. Then we only need a vocal track. Hannah can howl, but not sing.
If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original $1,000.00.
With Worldcom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock)one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
as long as i have the original vocal track blaring in my ears, kt, i could probably do a decent job of it. i'd just be more concerned with transposing words from the original and the parody.
geesh-no, something bad happens everyday-but something really bad that usually cost a few hundred $$ happens every 2 weeks around here! Thats why I need to find that medallion-to pay some of these lousy expenses!
ahh... well i wasnt really talking along the lines of money situations or investments that suck for mahself.... I was talkin about "relationships".... mostly those as of lately suck.... yeah.. so...
That was a couple years ago. I'm pretty much done with it except for vinyl records and books. It's in a mall in Ham Lake, next to Ham Lake Lanes. I will be doing a one day outdoors show at Long Lake Regional Park on August 10th. It's part of New Brighton's city festival.
word. but i seem to have done a decent job of ridding my thoughts of her. just not the memory, but that'll never go so hey.
Yeah... well damn ninja, atleast you have someone to try to rid your thoughs of... me.. hell nah.. im just a juggalo with no one... well.. nah.. I got my people... just not "someone" ya dig?
yup. i actually had a dec alpha machine that i'd built sitting in my office for the better part of a year before i no longer needed it. not that i'd give 'em much of a choice in the matter anyway. if someone squawked, i'd call in some favors from the sys admin group. which i may have to do anyway in order to get the fourth network drop lit up in my office. either that or bring in the old 3com hub :)
Make plans now to attend the first Geocachers Exploring Minnesota picnic/potluck at Bunker Hills Regional Park picnic shelter #5. We have reserved a picnic pavilion for up to 100 people, complete with electricity (bring your own extension cord if needed) and lots of trails and trees nearby for your caching enjoyment.
Registration and cache hiding - 10:00 am
Picnic/Potluck - 12:00 noon
Geocaching the Park - till 8:00 pm (not required - you can just come to talk and eat!)
This will be a very relaxed, casual gathering where we can all finally put faces to those screen names we have become so familiar with and swap cachin' stories.
This event is open to anyone in Minnesota or anyone who has ever geocached in Minnesota. New to geocaching or just getting started? Come on out and join the fun!
Plans include...
A pot-luck picnic, several one day only caches, and hopefully door prizes. Maybe some games too? (seeking volunteers) There is a full playground nearby for the kids to play.
There will be NO alternate raindate... our reservations are for one day only! If it rains, plan on coming anyway -- it is a large double shelter and it is covered.
Dogs are allowed in the park but must be leashed and attended to at all times.
Beer and wine are permitted in limited quantities in the park. "Hard liquor" is not permitted.
There will be a $4.00 per vehicle park entrance fee unless you have the annual pass.
Ask for and SAVE your receipt, insist upon receiving a receipt even if they claim the machine is broken (as they did to me this week) -- see the cache below!
Restroom facilities are nearby.
What you need to do...
Please bring your own drinks and meat for the grill (charcoal is already being provided) plus a potluck dish or a salad or a dessert or something else to share.
Please bring your own plates, cups, tableware and napkins, folding chairs if desired, a table covering or picnic blanket and bug spray. Don't forget your GPS, some good tradin' stuff (check each cache because some are themed caches and you may need to bring specific items), extra pencils for logging, a notebook if you need one to keep track of your finds, and of course, fresh batteries.
For directions to the park go to Bunker Hills information and scroll to the end of the page. We will be in picnic shelter #5 which is located on Road C. Plenty of paved parking space.
If you plan to attend please post a note (not a find!) HERE indicating the number of people attending, ages of the children and what food item(s) you are bringing. You can change it to a find and report on all your fun after you attend. Place this cache on your watch list to stay informed of any future changes or new information which may be posted here.
If you can, consider placing a special "one day" cache for this event, themed or not. You can use the above coodinates for your initial posting and give the exact coodinates the day of the picnic. You can download a map of Bunker Hills in PDF format or get one from the Bunker Hills Activity Center, or ask the park attendant for one when you come. Consider bringing an item for a door prize! Kid stuff or adult stuff -- we need both! There will be a donation jar at the picnic. Please consider contributing to help offset the costs associated with this social.

WoW Ian! I have come to the conclusion that something extremely wrong/bad happens on an average once every 2 weeks!
and where is your antique store?
Agreed, me2, now I expect bad things, so when they DON'T happen, I am pleasantly suprised... And I volunteer my son to do the music track for AW's song on his Korg. Then we only need a vocal track. Hannah can howl, but not sing.
