I have tried quite a few gambits, but all I get is the standard "pro-life" pap, in toto, including the (false) claims that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer, that abortion increases the risk of suicide etc. etc.
Scientific data do not help in this debate I have found...
Well if you consider answering a question with a question, answering the question...I guess you answered the question.
Personally, I would have rather you answered with a simple "yes" or "no".
However, I do understand your reluctance to be forthcoming with an honest answer, as the Pro-Choice position usually requires careful explanation...one misstatement...and the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
Yes, Piti. I have also seen the results from unwanted pregnancies, abused and tortured children. Young lives being wasted. Horrible! Most I see are those who think they should have a child to keep them company or to entrap their boyfriends. The child always gets the brunt of their anger. Heart breaking.
It's awful... I also think that the people who oppose widely-available contraception and sex education because "the children will then want to try" are completely out of their mind.
In Europe, where contraception is widely available and sex education is given in schools, the rates of abortion are half the rates in the United States...
thanks. :) hmmm....but if that would be common knowledge in the US, why would anyone use such a name? seems to invite this sort of comment:) guess should live with the consequence, then. LOL :)
Jethro Bodine is also the name of a famous race car driver, he could have had that person in mind when he picked his nick. But in the context that Sandi mentioned it....she was definitely referring to the hillbilly Jethro.
"Jethro"--> the TV Hillbilly guy "Bodine"--> the race-car guy
So, kinda split effect, right there :o) (but when I'm addressing him on a first-name basis, well I guess one kinda wins out, andnot to mention the sophistication-level of the repartee weighin' in there as well :)
mr. bong, i realise you're relatively new around this here thread, answering a question with a question has been one of jethro's tactics here since day one. i've still got a shedload of outstanding questions for the guy that he's not actually answered (and i'm not really the only one with that situation). of course those of us that know his reputation, know that he really only does this when he's backed into a corner.
There're allkinds of Bodines, it's a renowned racing family(a la Andrettis, Unsers, and so on. No Jethros though, to my recollection anyway, that's why I still have that 'split connotation' with that name here --Bodine suggesting to me the racing clan, and Jethro..well, you know :)
jethro has the biggest problem with it, sandi. there are a couple of others who have problems with it to a lesser degree (i.e., they're pro-life, but not extremists about it).
Oh yes when it comes to living and dying I am an extremist on the life side. What does that make people that want to kill or allow other to kill?

I find it refreshing to see a whole new group come in this thread actually trying to debate this issue with Jethro, and only finding out after hundreds of posts that he is more than likely ignorant, and most certainly, a pompous ass. No one is trying to debate anything here. It is all confrontation if you weren't so stupid you would see that. But alas you are stupid and much more of a pompous ass than I could ever hope to be. What the proabortionist are doing here is clinging together in their immorality. They try to give each other strength because there is no strenght in their underlying points of view.

Piti, Jethro Bodine was the name of the loutish oaf on The Beverly Hillbillies. ;-)
Sandi McMillan 7/29/02 4:29pm
You didn't answer the question.
Sandi McMillan 7/29/02 4:30pm
I vaguely remember the show... This is when I was writing my thesis so I didn't have too much time to look at TV...
Thank you...
Lance Bong 7/29/02 4:30pm
Are you being deliberately obtuse? I did answer it when I said why not! I pay tax dollars for all the teens' pregnancies. Why should I do that???
Sandi McMillan 7/29/02 4:34pm
read my e-gram Sandi... :-)

I agree...she did get away with insulting Jethro for free.
Sandi McMillan 7/29/02 4:41pm
mmmh...but they would want their child. :)
abortion should only be a possibility to those who do want it for whatever reason. no point for those who want a child, for whatever reason:).
Lance Bong 7/29/02 4:44pm
that would be an insult? looks like an expectation to me, based on whatever grounds. :)
Okay, bbl, LOL, this time for real!!
:)
bye Sandi :)

Jethro Bodine is a character on an old TV show called the "Beverly Hillbillies". The Jethro Bodine character is portrayed as an idiot.
I hope that clears up the issue...so you see..she did in fact insult him.
Lance Bong 7/29/02 4:57pm
ah, thank you :)

Btw, my grandfather is from Germany....he came to America after world war one.
kath f. 7/29/02 5:19pm
For me, connotations work like this:
"Jethro"--> the TV Hillbilly guy
"Bodine"--> the race-car guy
So, kinda split effect, right there :o) (but when I'm addressing him on a first-name basis, well I guess one kinda wins out, andnot to mention the sophistication-level of the repartee weighin' in there as well :)

Lance, is Jethro a good friend of yours?
Sandi McMillan 7/29/02 5:45pm
Lance, is Jethro a good friend of yours?
No...I hardly even know him.
Lance Bong 7/29/02 5:50pm
Oh, I thought we could get this straightened out. Oh well.

OK folks... Ready to debate abortion? :-)

Pitiricus. 7/29/02 6:20pm
I think those guys've bailed out though. 'Least for now, anyway.
Pitiricus. 7/29/02 6:10pm
Yes, interesting, hope everybody around here has a look at it.
Was Paula serious in this post????
Paula I 6/14/02 11:00am

I just resent it.
Pitiricus. 7/29/02 6:35pm
That post kind of cracked me up a bit, I sure hopePaula was at least a littlebit tongue-in-cheek when she wrote it.
But it seems to me we'll have to ask her about it next time she's here, to discuss it further.
May I ask what the deal is with all the deleted posts?

All you offer is that its okay to kill, kill, kill. And you do it with joy.
