I like the idea of Kellogg - but considering all the people and the small area - and no snow cover...I just have a hard time believing it would be there.
I suppose if it were hidden well enough it might work, though it is a little hard to believe our Huntmasters would send us downtown. Sometimes you have to go with Sherlock Holmes though. "Whenever you eliminate the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, must be the truth." Likewise I'd say that even if where the clues seem to be pointing doesn't make sense, if that's where they point, that's where you should go (case in point-Merriam).
I was thinking the square in the circle thing. Rice Park is known to be encircled by the Ordway, Landmark Center, St. Paul Companies and the library. Being it sits on a square block made me think of that.
Thanks for clarification TV. I checked out Rice just now and it's not under construction anymore. I did see a circle in a square as the clock on the Landmark tower, view of The St. Paul sign above SPC for a double meaning and you can see Exactly 8 Lucy statues from standing by the fountain. I'm sure I could make more clues fit during the day. In addition to the homeless guy asleep on the bench, there were still about 15-20 people wandering around out there which makes be think it too might be a little populated to hide anything there. But who knows?..
Here's a link for trees associated with California for clue #2. Although I assume that it's more or less 'what' it's hidden in instead of 'where'. But more info is better than less. Maybe some bark or a product with a tree name on it?
Just got back from Cherokee, Mounds, and Kellogg. Cherokee is pretty much out, although Mounds and Kellogg both look ok. Marley, even if I dont find the thing you are gonna wanna give me the $500 not to kick your ass if its at Kellogg. I have no desire to hunt there, and I would be crabby if it was there!!! (I mean this in a humerous kind of way Marley)
Jake - I know the kettle isn't there now...but we all know it's there during the winter. I'm just trying to think of all the different ways these clues could be interpretted.
Another thing that could have the circle in a square and the square in a circle would be on a children's playground. With tubes and crawl throughs, that's another possibility.
We're going to do some scouting around tonight in between other errands.
i thought of that too, terry, the other day when i drove past the playgrond at sylvan rec. big plastic square with a circular hole in it sitting right there.
Ares - I like that theory. It's a strong possibility.
I also got thinking about what we're supposed to be summing up. Because of the indication that there are eight more clues and then the word sum, if you added 1+2+3+4+5 etc. the sum of the clue numbers would be 78.
also, and i dunno how much this corroborates aw's 85->kellogg theory, but the correct spelling of ya'll is y'all. checking past posts, i know that artemis is very good at getting it right. i didn't see anything from marley to see how he'd usually write it though. cooler theory with the sum of the clues. 78 would place it on harriet island in an ice ball made of a milk and water mixture. found on feb 4th, after 12 clues, for a total prize of 2500 bucks.
The other thing about Kings and Queens...they live in castles. The last big Winter Carnival ice castle was on Harriet Island...but I don't remember the year.
Really gotta scoot. Happy hunting everyone...and have a way cooler day!
Allison- MERRIAM SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Jake I believe Aw meant that last year for the pp the clues for him were pointing towards merriam but he nor anyone wanted to believe!
Jake you cant get mad at the clue writer anyway or anyone for that matter. This is PRACTICE for the PP and is suppose to FUN!
I love the Rice Park idea- placing it in the 1st park it was ever in. Doing something different like AW with Phalen (hadn't been there in years) -- Jake choosing the only pk our of Ramsey COunty...now Marley choosing the 1st pk. :)
went down to Harriet Island and saw basically nothing-walked over to Raspberry Island.
at Harriet there was an ambulance taking an elderly person away and a bus with the name on the side saying it was from a church at "IRIS PARK COMMONS" :)
The only place it was at before I was born was Highland....and I was born a couple months after that first hunt.
I think during our rounds of errands this evening, I'm going to check out Harriet Island, Mounds, Rice, Kellogg and anything else that suddenly comes to light.
There was a treasure chest hidden under a mailbox, but it wasn't in Rice Park. I don't remember exactly where it was (it was just on a street somewhere) though it could have been close to Rice Park. Hmm, kind of annoying not to be able to reference the list. Maybe it's in the archives of my club somewhere.
HERE
yes dear.
Allison! That 11 for ya'll is just too much! LOL!!! I love it!
are you waiting for me, me2?
Everyone!
I like the idea of Kellogg - but considering all the people and the small area - and no snow cover...I just have a hard time believing it would be there.

Stop checking in Ares!
It's like the cat/dog thread---you keep raising your hand to vote!

Does anyone know if Rice Park is still under construction?
Hmmm, not sure, though Rice doesn't sound right to me.
i do not. i've only tried to stuff the ballot box once there.
fourth street is still under construction, terry. i don't think the actual park is under construction.
I'll go look outside and see about Rice. That would be way nice for me.
I was thinking the square in the circle thing. Rice Park is known to be encircled by the Ordway, Landmark Center, St. Paul Companies and the library. Being it sits on a square block made me think of that.
And as far as Kellogg goes - could the common cents represent the Salvation Army kettle that finds a home there?
BTW - earlier someone asked about a Sequoia Street or Road. There's one in Dakota County and one in Washington County. None in the city of St. Paul.
Thanks for clarification TV. I checked out Rice just now and it's not under construction anymore. What material are those benches made of? Redwood?
From my high school days, the benches at Kellogg were wood slats stained redwood.
So many possibilities.
Thanks for checking that out, Clue Master. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the link!
I think this noodler needs some sleep.
Goodnight and SCDs everyone!
SCD's as well TV
the wealth is held by kings and queens implies to me that the medallion (wealth) is inside a card box.
Just got back from Cherokee, Mounds, and Kellogg. Cherokee is pretty much out, although Mounds and Kellogg both look ok. Terry- The kettle is no longer at Kellogg.
Allison- MERRIAM SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
ok. next theory, kind of a derivative of cluemaster's theory, but what if the coin is stashed between a king and a queen playing card?
Good Morning!
Jake - I know the kettle isn't there now...but we all know it's there during the winter. I'm just trying to think of all the different ways these clues could be interpretted.

See yaz in time for the next clue.

'92. have a good one terry.
I know Marley. I am just being a baby......
Geesshhhh -how about Queen Victoria - Linwood?
I looked at Cass Gilbert-forget it!
I looked at the SUMmit overlook/Hale/Cockran too - no neon

Prospect is out too!
was at highland the first time
There is a "commonwealth" ave somewhere in the city. Near UofM ??
fine- but it was at Rice in a treasure box a really long time ago before we were born- :)
The only place it was at before I was born was Highland....and I was born a couple months after that first hunt.
I think during our rounds of errands this evening, I'm going to check out Harriet Island, Mounds, Rice, Kellogg and anything else that suddenly comes to light.
I don't believe the Winter Carnival treasure was ever at Rice Park. It was at Mears once, and Irvine, but never Rice.
I like the Commonwealth angle Me2. I don't have my trusty map book with me yet though. I'll get an older version I have in my car and get back to you.
I thought Commonwealth was near the state capitol but not sure-
And fine -just fine- maybe rice just never existed - but I thought I heard about a treasurechest hidden under a mailbox there.

1955- 7th and Robert St, under a mailbox (chest had been magnatized)
Helps to have those archives printed up :) 'Course, Jake's got it all in his head!
I've been looking at "Energy Park" next to Oscar Johnson Arena, a guy at work sais it has to be there!
Just having some fun and getting the JOE!!!!
Is no one else bothered by the fact ammonia was spelled wrong?
