The lineup that was good enough to get the team to where it is is good enough to start in the playoffs.

Bingo !

I am just looking at Eddie's recent history. His era is going up and seems to be getting wild. It seems that in the last month he has given up more walks and homeruns than he did earlier in the season. I am only suggesting that maybe they should consider making a change before it is too late.

Guardado struck out two of the four batters he faced in the meat of Anaheim order Monday night. He absolutely locked up Troy Glaus with a vicious slider at the knees.

Looked pretty sharp to me.

Rick,

The only thing I've questioned so far is why Gardy doesn't pull his starters sooner and go the pen. I am not a big leauge manager and it's always easy to second guess. I realize pulling a starter in the 3rd inning is not the ideal situation then again being down 4 runs after 2 innings isn't either. But when a guy is getting hit pretty good why not go to Santanna or Loshe, I mean they are used to pitching whole games anyway. Some games a starter just doesn't have it at the beggining I know some guys need an inning or two to get rythym etc. But why not pull these guys sooner, esecially in playoff games ? Maybe there's something I'm missing, I'll yield to you

Guardardo didn't look sharp to me. 23 pitches for a closer for one innining is too many.

Gardenhire knows what these guys can do. He's watched them for years. In the regular season, you certainly want to rest the bullpen as well as the starters. Maybe pulling starters early -- on a regular basis -- sends a message to the rotation that he doesn't trust them and sends a message to the batters that he doesn't think they can bring in the runs.

Yea I can see that being a concern, then again these guys get pissed if they pull them after 6 or 7. I never had to worry about it coaching little leauge we changed pitchers sometimes every inning. Man those 10 year olds would get pissy when I'd go to the "pen" :) J.K. (Actually the parents is why I quit, most of the kids were great)

I don't know like I said, it's easy to second guess, personally if i was out there on the mound and getting shelled in the 3rd inning in front of 56,000 people I'd be begging to get out of there.

I can see that, so you guys seem to think it's more of a psychological thing. Just seems kind of silly that we let egos and psychology get in the way, then again He got us here so what do I know.

"Just seems kind of silly that we let egos and psychology get in the way"

It may not be that at all. Those starters are good pitchers, professional guys. Gardenhire might figure they deserve more than to get pulled at the first sign of trouble.

I think there's lots of objective things that go into the decision, pitch count, whether the lineup is filled with leftys or righties. But sometimes it's gotta be subjective and political.

Now that it's over, what a tremendous run ! One of the comments I heard from the commentators was about next year. How many of the Twins are signed for next year? Who would leave for more money? Who should we dump?

It was kinda funny to see Tom Prince pinch hit. I had been thinking that he hadn't played much. Didn't he once start every third or fourth day?

This could very well be Prince's last season. We could have seen his last at-bat in the majors.

I don't know why I'm here. I'm not ready to talk about last night, yet.

Nice try Twins!

You did well but the better team won.

Now I'm gonna have to root for the Angels.

What a year. Thanks Twins for the thrilling games. Thanks for entertaining me on my drives home at night. I can't remember how many games I turned on to hear you were down by 3 in the 7th inning only to have you come back and win.

It was cool to watch a team that had to deal with Contraction, Injury and a possible strike only to thrive and kick some but when some compared them to an AAA club. Well that little AAA club that Bud & Carl were so fond of folding made it to the ALCS. They did it under very adverse conditions and they are a scrappy bunch, my hat's off to them for a great year.

The team will be pretty intact next year and it already has me looking forward to opening day.

The Angels played a great series and deserve to be there and I will now be pulling for them. Not only do they represent the American League but I can't stand Bonds and think he takes more steroids than a race horse.

Saw a shot of Troy Percival last night: Bottle of champagne in his hand standing out on the pitcher's mound.

Classless: You want to celebrate, fine. Do it in the locker room. You play your baseball on the field.

Wouldn't want to try to hit his fastball though.

Wouldn't want him staring at me like he does, either.

If I tried looking at someone like that, they'd just laugh.

I thought it would have been neat if someone stared back at him like that and started laughing at him. Then again I am not in the box with a 97 mph greaser brushing past my skull so it's easy for me to say.

The guys in the Twins bullpen called Bob Wells the Silent Assassin. But he doesn't look anything like Percival.

Bob Wells ? really, LOL I guess I don't see that he looks pretty harmless to me. We really don't have any "mean" looking guys do we ? I'm trying to picture them all, and they all have that Dustin Mohr look to them kind of.

After watching Anaheim I don't see them getting beat in the series. Then again not watching many NL games I have no idea really aside from Bonds the talent they have.

Triple Duece JOE !

Not to belittle the claim, but I hope it wasn't blown out of proportion because of the kind of guy he is. It would be like calling a national emergency if Mr. Rogers said the 'F' word. Hopefully the system will be fair to both sides. Regardless of the outcome, it's still too bad that the story is out there.

I have to admit it would be kind of funny to see Fred hanging up his sweater and putting his tennies on and saying, "Aww you know what kids,,,,,,,It really isn't that beautiful of a day, in fact this whole fu--ing nieghborhood is f--ked up. And then go on like nothing happened. :)

LOL! I'd like to see a picture of Fred caught with a straw in his nose and a naked hooker in the background playing in the NeighborHOOD Of Make Believe.

Waiting to get a haircut yesterday, I was paging through Esquire magazine. They listed about 30 reasons to look forward to 2003.

Number 2: The continued existance of the Minnesota Twins.

Now they need a new yard....

How many children are you willing to leave behind so the Twins can have a new yard?

I see the White Sox are trash talking already. I hope those louts finish dead last in the division. It would be sweet to see KC have a better record :)

last time i bought twins tickets, it was 25 bucks a piece directly behind home plate. they're what? 27 a piece now?

This is a shocker

When did the Twins start spending money like this? They don't have a figure, but Kenny Rogers doesn't come cheap.

The only thing I remember about him was 1999 when he was with the Mets. He walked in the winning run which gave the Braves the Pennent.

Wed, 03/12/2003 - 4:07 PM Permalink

Seems like he still has pretty good stuff. 13-8 isn't horrible not to mention some veteran leadership. What do they do when Milton comes back ? Oh well that's too far down the road.

It sounded like the team was shocked too. The players were joking about how they should sign him. And they did !

Wed, 03/12/2003 - 4:10 PM Permalink
ThoseMedallingKids

With Rogers, he won't have to carry a staff, which I think will help. He is a veteran, and he could help some with the younger pitchers too. As to what happens when Milton comes back, it allows Milton to take his time in coming back (unless Rogers really tanks). It also is some more insurance in case we do have more injuries to the pitchers. Heck, we thought last year was going to be good, but we had Radke, Milton and Mays hurt at various times. It's good insurance.

I'm so used to reading in the paper that the front office was excited about signing guys like Butch Husky.

Butch Husky..LOL

It is wierd. Maybe Carl thought he was really paying for the singer instead so he dusted off his wallet and pryed it open.
