ya, I have to say, he's not very sneaky! sometimes I think he want's to get caught cuz he leaves things right out in the open or where he knows we are gonna look.

That's entirely possible. The issue may not at all be that he doesn't know right from wrong. He could be doing all this as a ploy for attention for whatever reason. Maybe he thinks that if he doesn't get in trouble he'll be ignored entirely. Maybe he thinks if he gets in trouble he won't have to go to his Dad's. Maybe being around his Dad has him convinced he's somehow worthless and getting in trouble is the only way to "be somebody" as it were. If someone seems to want to get caught, that's almost a sure sign that something else is wrong and perhaps trying to get him to see the consequences of his actions is really just treating the symptoms instead of the real problem.

The goal ultimately is to try and convince him that he has some worthwhile ability doing something productive and get him to focus his energies on that. I suspect if he could do something that made him feel good about himself, he would rather do that than waste time getting in trouble. Does he have any particular talents or skills?

Ok, mark your calendars because I'm not changing it again.

Friday, February 28th-Sunday, March 2nd

I have a lakehouse at Superior Shores booked for the weekend. It's technically only a 2 bedroom unit, but it also has a loft, a sofa sleeper, and a bed in the hot tub room, so it should sleep 10 people altogether. It has a 5 person hot tub and a full kitchen.

The plan will still be to do a murder mystery weekend, most likely with people from both this group and my singles club. The cost will be about $80 for the weekend which includes room, food, and the mystery. Slots and room assignments will be given out on a first paid-first choice basis.

Any questions?

A.W.- he is an unbelievable artist, It amazes me how well he draws, but I can't seem to find a program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, that or they are too far away. He is in a contest for school right now and he has been spending alot of time on his picture so maybe that will keep him occupied for a while.

I never got in trouble, cuz before causing any mayhem I'd consult someone that's been there and done that, luckily enough, that would be my parents, and they damn near always knew a good way of doing things. I wish this was the 70's so I could go out and get away with the stuff they used to, but now days, I'm almost afraid to just walk down the street in fear of the doughnut patrol harassing me. I was thrown into a fence, slapped around, and handcuffed one time, and I didn't even do anything illeagal. It's seems like most cops now days are too eager to show of their power.

I'm afraid I don't know much about artist programs but I would still think there are ways to encourage him. Perhaps recommending some contests he could enter. Maybe someone could offer him a job illustrating something? Maybe Me2 could use some illustrations for her newsletter. I could maybe use some artwork for my singles club website. I'm not sure what his style is, and I don't know that any of us could pay him much if anything for the work, but I suspect just feeling recognized and important might help quite a bit.

something like that would probably be really good for him, I think half of the time he's just bored, and its hard to let him go out and do things when he is supposed to be grounded, and then of course he does something else before he gets ungrounded.

What kind of drawings does he do? Perhaps there are websites that display that type of work? I wonder if he could get an internship as a graphic artist?

mostly cartoon stuff like pokemon, he has these new cards now but I don't know what they are called, they have like dragons and wierd stuff on them, I used to think he was tracing them because they were so good. I've seen him draw some cars too.

Good Evening!

Sounds like you might be onto something, LL. Check with the school's counselors, some local colleges perhaps, and there are some artist's groups around that are local. Check with the Art Institute of Minnesota. I wonder if drafting or architecture might be of interest to him. At least it's one avenue to pursue.

I'm almost afraid to get him into something too big, getting him to focus on high school is like pulling teeth with him, he's failing all of his classes including phy-ed! of course it might help if he actually went to class when he gets to school.

Thu, 12/05/2002 - 4:08 PM Permalink
Terry

Is his failing an attitude issue or does he have some learning disabilities?

It's a hard thing to know what to do. Have you talked to the school counselor at all about this?

He has ADHD and ODD, when I sent him back to his dad's they took him off of his meds and were supposed to clean out his system and get him put on something else, needless to say, they never followed up on it. I just recently brought him back to his doc and had him put back on, it seems to be helping a little bit with his attitude. the school has been very kind and are trying to work with him and keep me informed better than the school he was in at the beginning of the year. we will see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

All fingers are crossed here for you, LL. He's got quite a bit on his plate too from the sounds of it...and being a teenager with all those raging hormones doesn't make it any easier.

I hope that things settle down for him so they settle down for you.

Weirdest game I've ever seen bowled a 280.

Now your probably saying that that's not too weird but the guy had the first 10 strikes threw a gutter ball and then converted the spare.

LL: I feel sorry for you that you have to deal with such a situation. Just dont let it control/destroy your life.

Some day you may just have to let him go and hope that he wakes up to realize how good he has it and that it truly is better to have a loving mother than to pull all this crap.

Kris goes to Mankato State. Columbia Heights had a crappy team this year, so after 4 straight trips to State, this year's season is over. We'll be there about noon as spectators. We know the kids on the Fridley and Moundsview/Irondale teams.

Then we'll be heading to Des Moines for a tournament.

I was using access-4-free.com for about 6 months, but the recent bogus charges and BS caused me to switch. I had been planning on it anyway. My account was 'put on hold' due to usage cap.I was told that my credit card didn't go through.

I tried calling 4 times, and was disconnected. The 5th time I was told there would be a $5.00 charge, so I hung up. I re-entered my charge card information, then began exploring the site. I came up with this:

On Hold - Usage cap

From the main web page:

Each month you get 10 hours FREE
$1 for each additional hour will apply
The maximum you may be charged per month is $10 for unlimited Internet.

In the past, I was charged extra fees that were refunded. There's no problem with my card. I'm not getting unlimited internet, as described when I signed up, and as promoted on the web site.

I'm using GBRonline.com now. They offer multi-link (dual modem) and I may check it out.

just a tip, ian, unless you're paying for a second phone line already, crunch some numbers with either a cable modem or dsl (if you're close enough to the phone company co) before adding in a second phone line for the multilink. i'm guessing you'll find the costs are pretty much the same, and you get a lot faster connection with one of the broadband solutions. or you could sign up with qwest.net, and cancel after a month. that's what i use if i've got my laptop at someone's house that doesn't have an ethernet hookup for me. mind you i cancelled my qwest.net service plan a year ago. :

Hi Ian! that would be cooler!

Life is in that crazy holiday phase, and I've hardly had time to read and post! I have hardly been home for more than a couple days at a time, staying up North alot since I'm not working and have time. Slowly getting things done inside the mobile home, got the heaters installed before it got too cold so its toasty inside, have been running electricity, and almost have the bedroom done. Once we get the stove top and oven in we'll really be cookin' ;-) Goin back up tomorrow for a couple days :-)

Artemis - glad you're getting so much accomplished up north.

We're north today...and it's cookie baking time. We have 6 different cookie batches to make and that will all be done by dinner time. We will be making some chicken wild rice soup in the crock pot and will bake some bread in the bread machine so dinner will be ready when we are.

Have a way cooler day everyone!

Hi everyone! me2 me2 - been busy- shopping, shopping, returning gifts cause I found better deals elsewhere, shopping, breathing, shopping!

We get our Christmas tree tomorrow night :)
late this year-and we are only getting a Balsam instead of a Fraiser

Michael W Smith was good last night-especially from the FRONT ROW ;) along with 'Point Of Grace' and a girl named 'Kara' (which I am going to get her CD for my daughter-better than giving her the soundtrack to 8 MILE)! Maybe instill some better values.

The cookies are all baked and ready for the freezer, the soup was delicious and the bread thing had to wait. We can't find the paddle for the bread machine. The neighbor came by to sample the cookies and share some soup with us.

At one point during the morning, Inks lit a smoke and put the lighter back in his pocket. Only deal was is that the lighter was still lit. He ruined a shirt and roasted some chest hairs, but he's okay.

So as a friend of mine said...Everyone sing along now...

Well the hot tub party starts officially on the 17th. It's actually part of a themed series of events called "The Seven Deadly Sins of January". Friday the 17th is LUST night. We're carrying that off by having Massage Therapy Night. I have at least one, and maybe two people who will be giving massage lessons and the club members can practice on each other. In addition, we have certain games we've picked out especially for the occasion, plus we'll have the hot tub going all night. In fact, people are encouraged to sleep over. Which leads into the next day, which is our SLOTH event. The idea being to just sit around all day on the 18th, watching TV, sitting in the hot tub, playing games if people get ambitious, or whatever. We'll order some pizza for dinner and then the party goes on all night as well. I actually have the hot tub for the entire week though, for what looks like will be Monday to Monday. So my singles club should be there from Friday night to Sunday morning. If anyone from here might want to do some clue noodling from the hot tub on Sunday, we can certainly do that. Or if anyone wants to use it some night during that week before the hunt, we could maybe arrange that too. Otherwise Me2, you should know you're invited to come to a singles club event since I wanted to get you involed with it anyway. Otherwise if there's any other single people here between 25-40 who might also want to join my singles club, they could take part in the event as well.
