Roll all night long

Come on baby, yes this is it
This is something you just can't miss
Come on baby, let the good times roll
Roll all night long

It feels so good
When you're home
Come on baby
Rock me all night long

Apparantly, I'm destined for the chorus, not a starring role. ;-)

I had a bad experience at the Como fire rings a few months ago. It wasn't the sort of thing that's likely to repeat itself, but not sure I want to go back real soon.

Actually there was a group of teenagers there from Como Park Senior High. Must have been around Homecoming. They were at the far fire ring from where we were. There had to be at least 100 of them there if not 200. At one point for some reason they all headed out way en masse. At first they were just being kind of a nuisance. A bunch of people in my group had whips (don't ask why) and one of them actually started trying to chase them off by using her whip. They kind of dispersed, but then came back and the second time they were rather angry and started throwing stuff at my group. One woman was hit in the head with a can of pop and they were throwing other things that would have been dangerous had they hit someone (and they came close). We ended up calling 911 and had to have the police come. If my group had decided to fight back, it would have been a riot.

I understand why you guys unleashed on Jake, all I had to do was put myself in your guys' shoes. And once one person posted how pissed they were, everyone felt free to! Thats the beauty of angry mobs!

All joking aside, that was a mean joke and I feel bad for anyone that was even slightly taken by it. Even though it was an obvious fake when you look back at it, even the slightest chance that there wouldn't be a hunt is devastating.

Well if anything good came out of it, it was perhaps that we learned not to take the hunt for granted and appreciate it a bit more (not that it wasn't already appreciated).

Ah geez! I can't believe anyone asked why Allison and his friends had whips! So I'm gonna ask. Allison, why did ya'll have whips in a public park around the fire rings?

Not to worry Steve, anybody who knows anything knows it's gonna be where it's gonna be and thats where it is for anybody who knows where to find it. Ya dig?

I think people just want to try and identify it as soon as possible because we realize the odds of ourselves finding it to be slim to none. So we try to earn that little moral victory by figuring out the right park before others can.

see, and i think its more important to find the medallion first. you can worry about figuring out which park its in and where in that park it is after the medallion is safely in your pocket.

wait, um, let me rethink that a sec.

Different people have different values. Some of us appreciate the social recognition. Others are, shall we say, more goal oriented.

So let me put it this way. How many people do you think can name the finders of the last five years? I can't even remember all their names. Now how many people know the name "Allison Wonderland" for example, and even have a positive association with it? I have people I've never met come up to me in the parks and they're excited to meet and talk to me. I got into the documentary based on the things I posted. I've had people I've never met give me some pretty sincere compliments. Yes, it would be nice to find the medallion, but if I had to choose between finding it, but living in obscurity, or never finding it, but making lots of friends along the way, I'd be perfectly happy with the latter. I may not have the money, but money doesn't last long. I may not have my name entered on the list of finders, but how many remember that list anyway? There are other things one can win in this hunt.

The singles club I run, which has become immeasurably valuable to me, was started with someone I met from the treasure hunt. Without her, I likely never would have tried. There have been a few times where I felt like getting out of town for the the weekend and I've been able to go up and camp out at Terry Valentine's place, someone else I met through the hunt. This last year I got to run my own treasure hunt and people who had faith in me to create a good hunt based on little more than the things I've posted, raised $500 of their own money to have a decent prize for that hunt to make it a genuinely worthwhile one. You're not going to convince me that finding the Medallion is the only prize to be had because I've already gotten so much more out of it.

Allison - All good points, but you could've accomplished this without giving away the store. I would guess that for every friend you've met through the boards, you've supplied easy answers to hundreds of people you wouldn't want to associate with. Perhaps even some who attend Como Park High.

When the time comes, challenge yourself. See if you can noodle on the board without saying what park you're thinking of. Limit the amount of info you give on the board. If anything, take it offline if you have to speak with someone.

We could make a game of it.
