Allison - All good points, but you could've accomplished this without giving away the store.
So are you trying to say I'm better at figuring the clues out? hehe
I would guess that for every friend you've met through the boards, you've supplied easy answers to hundreds of people you wouldn't want to associate with.
You may be right. Well sort of. I don't know that there are hundreds of people out there hunting that I wouldn't want to associate with. I like lots of people. But I know what you're saying that there are people who don't even bother trying to figure out what the clues are. They just login and have other people explain the clues for them and then go out and hunt. And maybe it's someone I wouldn't even want to have in the same park as me. But honestly, such a thought just doesn't bother me that much.
I don't think you made your book just to make money. If that were the case, I would bet you could have charged $20 a book and most people would have still bought it (I think it's worth it anyway). And you could have kept all those maps to yourself and had that edge over everyone else. But instead you chose to share it with everyone. I assume there was a feeling in there that it would be cool if all hunters could have something like this. And I'm sure there are people who have your book that you might not really care for either. What I do isn't that different.
That being said, this is mostly an academic argument. I've had my time in the spotlight and I don't need to be there anymore to believe I have a worthwhile opinion. When I first started doing this I had no social life and was enjoying getting some recognition. And then of course last year I had a bit of redeeming to do. But now my life has improved and I'm happier with where I'm at, so I don't crave the recognition the way I once did. And with the Cooler kind of scattered now, I'm not too worried anymore about where I post. I'll probably still post stuff at my club and I'll post here. I doubt I'll ever worry about concealing my ideas, but I'm not going to worry too much about making sure everyone hears them either.
My wife just called me a geek because the hunt doesn't start for two weeks, and I've been on the boards already. She can just go to hell. My computer gives me everything I want anyway....
see, and fame is something i don't particularly care to have in the first place. yeah i'll take what comes with finding the puck when me2 and i pick it up in 3 weeks. i'd reluctantly take what came with a 315 million dollar powerball jackpot too. but thinking just of the fame, i'd much rather match just the 5 numbers and win the 100 grand (mulitplied by 5 on the power play of course :), just to avoid the press.

lol. bring her to mcg's on the 18th. that way she can meet those of us who have been on the boards talking hunt since last february. and the very few of us who are so addicted we stage our own hunts during the *gasp* summer :)
My better half keeps me focused. I think that's because she has the strength to say no to idiocy. She can pound beer with the best of 'em, but it would be like oil and water with her at anything related to the hunt.
i'd imagine she's home right now. she was on earlier today. told me she was gonna be off by noon or so to get some stuff done around the house so she could come back tonite. she signed off about 2 and i haven't seen her since :)
We're gettin a full house here. We should start a new language....
Here we go...If you're talking about a certain park refer to it as a page number in the THG. To be even more deceptive, round it up to the nearest 5 and leave it at that.
If you really want to say the park, let's use Minneapolis parks as equivalents. For example, you think the treasure is at Langford so you tell everyone that the clues lead to Powderhorn Park. Phalen is Theodore Worth, Battle Creek is Linden Hills, etc..
I think we just need to make secret decoder rings. Make up a code that we talk in to refer to parks. Make up a code to refer to street names. Landmarks. You name it.
We'll still make more friends because they'll think we're cool and they'll want to see what makes us tick. The PP will write articles about our methods and that will add to our coolness.
We could even lash out at those on the board who divulge too much by public harassment at the park, perhaps punishment by snow balls.
Well I gotta say one thing Steve. You've at least convinced me to only post on one board anyway. I guess I don't really see the reason why I would need to post any ideas on 2 separate boards. I can see it's gonna be hard enough keeping up with the posts in this thread alone. I might throw out a "HEY DUMBSHIT!! IT'S NOT AT THE FAIRGROUNDS" once in awhile on the 'other' board, but I don't foresee making it a habit of slogging through a bunch of "It's at Como" ideas over and over.
Oh hell, you could put stuff in the THG like "this is where groups with whips like to congregate", "this is a good place for outdoor sex as shown by the number of condoms found littered around", "this is where a man lost his life in an unfortunate broomball accident".
Ares. Famous is as famous does.
I'm hoping to use this movie to land a reoccuring role on Dawson's Creek.

Perhaps even some who attend Como Park High.

I had some people last year who positively hated me.
Thats right Steve give her what for! I can't even believe she resides in St.Paul and doesn't understand! I say we revoke her membership!

Me2...where is she? Silly ideas you have. How will you find the treasure if you don't dig.
So cooler! Look at how everyone is gathering!
Hey der i see da Likker Lady! Shay Likker lady whhhat doo you hhave fer me?

Wow...that would be fun!!
E marks the spot.
LOL Map Dude
I think we just need to make secret decoder rings. Make up a code that we talk in to refer to parks. Make up a code to refer to street names. Landmarks. You name it.
Even better we should use parks from Chicago!
Or Joes
1 = Como
10 = Phalen
100 = Battle Creek
69 = me2's place
DAMMIT Clue Man!
Ha! In your face Scribers ;-)
What about using the parks of North St Paul, West St Paul, and South St Paul as equivalents? Even St Paul Park?
Yeah ,real nice, bring my looks into it!
We'll still make more friends because they'll think we're cool and they'll want to see what makes us tick. The PP will write articles about our methods and that will add to our coolness.

S. was that you with the back boil? Glad it's healing properly then
Or even better we should make up imaginary parks in St.Paul. "You know, I think it's at Pigs Eye Park."
Thanks Clue man, It's gone down quite a bit,yes sir, quite a bit.
When do we start making Cooler Crew trading cards? Or Cooler Crew pogs?
Scribe. Too funny!
James J Hill Park, Archbishop Ireland Park, Butler Brothers Park, O'Brien Park......University Club Park!LOLOL!
Nina Clifford Park!LOLOLOLOLOL!

I'm going to make a THG with imaginary parks and give it to the next people who find the medallion without a registered button.
Way funny!
Maybe include one of my size 13 boots with each copy so they can kick their own ass over and over for being idiots
hey, hey ,hey, don't bring Como into this! It is my job to invoke Como theories every year and post them willy nilly and I'm proud of it!:)
Oh hell, you could put stuff in the THG like "this is where groups with whips like to congregate", "this is a good place for outdoor sex as shown by the number of condoms found littered around", "this is where a man lost his life in an unfortunate broomball accident".
Oh, Scribe - so you're the ONE?
TMK - At least it could make the clue writing a bit more interesting
This year it will be in Nina Clifford Park or Rebecca Rand park.
What about Mr. News park?
Yeah, I'm the one! and I have been doing it with forethought and malice for years! It's fun...just put a coupla things together and let em noodle.
What about Mr. News park
You mean the park that holds the most morons who yell "I found it" over and over?
I gotta change this avatar...
Naw, TMK, they pee on the slides there.
The slides have been medallionated?
I'm afraid so my boy.
Hello Everyone
Just stopped by to get caught up! Hey Map Guy, Where's it at?
Gotta Go!
Master...I always like to see the Fairgrounds on the board. That and Keller. Bomb the board with the phony parks often.
I'm really busting a gut here.
Okay, but Cathedral Park is off limits, we just got done redoin the thing and I don't want to piss Father J. off.
