Like blaming the Republicans for Paul Wellstone's plane crashing. Or praising the Wellstone family for uninviting the Vice President. [THX 1138]
So, THX, are you claiming that this is what is being taught in our public schools? [me]
Yes, the Liberal agenda is being taught in our public schools. [THX 1138]
So, the "liberal agenda" is that Republicans are responsible for Wellstone's plane crashing and this is what is being taught in public schools? THX, this sounds rather far-fetched to me.
jethro, you sound absolutely sick with hatred. That's quite unfortunate.
Luv2fly, I appreciate the welcome, but at this point am not sure I want to stick around here; there's something unhealthy about the place. Thanks anyway.
Gay rights: you mean tolerance of and basic politeness towards those who are different, I presume.
Teen sex: hmmm, somehow I doubt that our public schools are teaching teen sex. I went to public school, and at no point was I pressured by teachers to give up my virginity.
Global warming: as part of environmental awareness, perhaps. I don't have a problem with that.
That's just fine and dandy that you have no problem with it Why would you if you agree with it ? And that's the problem. Alot of people don't agree with those views nor do they want their children taught those views. Unfortunately if they can't afford a private school they are stuck and their children are exposed to someone elses indoctrination. If it were the opposite I assume then you'd have a problem with it. But again why would you protest if you agree with the mantra being ingrained.
Sorry you feel that way. Any thread has hard liners. Debate can be fun and informative and can actually change a persons mind if he/she is willing or open. My point to you or my view is that public schools should be politically/relgion nuetral. Becasue sooner or later you're going to disagree with a schools teaching and at that point it's too late because you allowed the politics you wanted in.
jethro, you sound absolutely sick with hatred. That's quite unfortunate. Unfortunate for whom? Sometime hatred is warranted. The real issue is the actions, or lack thereof, that are taken because of it. Don't you think it is all right to hate sometimes?
So, the "liberal agenda" is that Republicans are responsible for Wellstone's plane crashing and this is what is being taught in public schools? THX, this sounds rather far-fetched to me.
No, that was merely an example of your so called tolerance and politeness.
I could give you specific examples of the Liberal agenda being propagated in our public schools, but I've done it numerous times in the past and I feel it would be a waste of time to do it again.
You don't want to hear it anyway. You'd rather consort with your own, where you can preach to each other about the evil Repigs and pat each other on the back.
Which is fine with me because the more the Liberals are in denial, the more the Conservatives are going to win elections.
and yet you cry about "hatred of conservatives" being part of the "liberal agenda"
You really shouldn't read things into the question. The question simply asked whether it all right to hate sometimes. It didn't refer to liberals or conservatives. The question stands. If you need something specific then consider whether it is okay to hate Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer. Or how about Hitler? Is it all right to hate Hitler?
jethro, your rhetorical style reminded me of the subject of an insightful article I read two or three years ago on "the new jargon," a fairly recent chip-on-the-shoulder speaking/writing style that is characterized by pugnacious non-sequiturs and irrational associative leaps. The author of the article finds it distasteful primarily for its tone; I find it frustrating for its utter abandonment of any attempt at logic.
So I looked around for a link to the article and found it:
It's pretty long, but here are a couple of excerpts:
We have a serious problem in this country, regardless of who becomes president -- a cult that conducts its political life in an aggressive and antirational jargon. On many occasions here I have dissected the workings of this jargon, but now I want to focus on the cultivated use of jargon for purposes of emotionally abusing people. My long message about the hate mail that I've received since I started covering the election controversy brought quite a bit of testimony on the matter from people who are distressed at the name-calling, disregard for reality, and all-around dehumanizing scorn that they suffer from the members of this cult. Many of these folks reported feeling all alone with this abuse, and they spoke poignantly about being trapped in overwhelming conservative parts of the country where the cult and its jargon dominate public discussion to the exclusion of everything else.
I am talking about people who express themselves in snide, sarcastic, scornful tones, who express themselves in innuendoes, who invest incredible effort in provoking an intemperate response so that they can portray themselves as victims, and who engage in complicatedly indirect forms of rhetoric that deniably presuppose things that are false.
I place the blame for this wildly rude, illogical language on the ubiquitous talk radio propaganda phenomenon that has flooded the AM airwaves for the past 15 years, of which Rush Limbaugh is probably the most famous example.

the problem is susan, that people like you don't want to deal with ideas that are contrary to your deeply held liberal beliefs. So you and your ilk accuse those people of being illogical and stupid. Like I said it must be hell living a lie.
You can blame talk radio all you'd like. You can also turn it off. It's better for your health.
I read the paragraph's you posted.

And anyone of the things the author mentioned can be said of the left as well. For a group of people who claim to be so tolerant of other views I've seen and heard some ugly things here and in the general population. It knows no political bounds. And the left is certainly no better. We try to get along in this thread and do a pretty good job with a few exceptions. I've seen some ugly things said about conservatives in the threads you post in. So please come in and debate any time, perhaps you'll see that not everyone is filled with hate or evil intent, merely a different point of view.
" Most likely, the child wasn't Thomas' but the other guy's who name I cannot immediately recall. It is possible that the Sally Hemmings children had a common ancestor in Jefferson's father-in-law "
Oh Boy... It has been a while since I came around here.. and the mouse has been at play..
OK.. Time to chew this mouse down....
:)
Do you have any research link to this.... I know there is this White Trash Family related to the Jeffersons who can't stand the idea of the TJ having to do with the "Blacks" ... (What a sorry ass people you must be....). I was watching this trash family's blood pressure rise and them squirm in a program on PBS when confronted with their agenda to keep the Sally Hemmings progenies away....
But the decent side of the Jefferson family have come to accept the reality...
Many Great men in History are in trouble when it comes to their sex lives...
Simpletons think in Black and White.. anything that requires a little depth...confuses them.
"My point is this, and has always been so: this country is supposed to be a country of laws. The law is paramount over the morality of its members. You can disagree with the law, you can criticize the law and you can work to change the law but it should be done by the rules. "
Thank God, prior to the American revolution.. People who thought like you were locked up as Traitors during the American Revolution.
The Law of the Land then were not followed by the "Patriots" then... From Samuel Adams to Thomas Paine to Thomas Jefferson...
Just like Unjust men... There are Unjust laws... LAws are social contracts influenced by the Majority in America today and some Laws that are aribtarily set by the few (prior to the American Revolution).
Tyranny of the Majority is an imperfection in an otherwise good system in a democracy. Hence this imperfection is minimized by making the country a Republic rather than a pure democracy. Bill of Rights is another way to put the brakes on abuse by the "Majority".. even than... This Tyrrany of the Majority exists (ed)...
"Slavery" and "Jim Crow" are a few examples. A Violent response as a last resort is a natural outcome if no other equitable avenue exist....

So, Your "Law is everything" and "Law as a deity" doesn't hold water. IMO
"Where does it say "Separation of church & state"? "
"liberals always ignore the second part that states "or prohibiting the free excercise thereof." Then of course the prohibition specifically was directed at Congress not state legislatures. "
I agree...
I am all for the Quoran as a prominant piece in the Courts.. The Hadiths should be enlarged and posted in all the Courts.. They are Gods words... The Govt.. should not interfere and inaway be "prohibiting the free excercise thereof".
Judge Abdul Qadir should have his way in HIS court room.... Maybe a Crescent and Star statue should be built and placed in the foot steps of the court house.
School system should force school kids to learn about one of the biggest and growing religion of the world.....like they force them to learn math and science. i.e. the Learning from the Good book. The Quran.
Remember folks, "prohibiting the free excercise thereof" is in our constitution....
"If it were only giving it to say Catholic schools and not Jewish ones then I would agree it would be. So as long as it doesn't discriminate then it's not establishing any one religion. "

I know.. these "brilliant" minds will come up with the Idea to distribute it by the population spread.... There you go... the "tyrrany of the Majority" again... Guess which religion gets established...implictly by the Congress?
"so, you want to give money to the private Satan School for Toddlers?
Sure, as long as their curriculum passes the guidlines. "
So, who sets up the guidelines? The local Jim Jones?
"The state sets requirements for ALL schools"
How convinient? But the States is controlled by the Majority of one particular religion... and they would pick criteria that favors their religion.... So the State Establishes a religion (by a sly and devious way)
Gee... that was so hard...
Maybe The Theological society of the World?... and if so.. what happens if they say.. Agonists or Hinduism or Buddism is the superior religon and all the others really don't cut it..... and that the rest are equally foolish... That there really is no difference between "walk on water" and "turn water into wine" religion and the "we are alien clones" religion?
"Of course not they don't have to go to that school. If the raelians or church of satan want's to have a school and be able to give an education so be it. I might not agree with their views but I pay now for schools that don't support them either or indoctrinate them against my beliefs. The difference you fail miserbly to see is that that way people would actually have a CHOICE where to esnd their children"
So, If my local school district is predominantly Islamic and the school with my religion is like a 1000 miles away... I have to now send them 1000 miles commute or I have to move?
Thats a sneeky way for establishing "Tyrrany of the Majority"... just like the State of Massacussets did prior to the American Constitution.
"Yes, the Liberal agenda is being taught in our public schools."
ROFLMAO..
This country is a Liberal Country...Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan and Pakistan is a Conservative country.
The founding fathers saw to that.... The constitution simply ignored the bible or any other such books out there ... They came away with the most liberal and secular Ideals that humans can think of.... from the Likes of John Locke to Thomas Paine....to the annoyance of the every relgious nut out there... Well.. You may change the constitution and make it a religious country maybe in about 500 years... until then ...scratch the barrel for a few licks of "Your" religion in public life....
School system should force school kids to learn about one of the biggest and growing religion of the world.....like they force them to learn math and science. i.e. the Learning from the Good book. The Quran.
Nah.. They do.. only in one or two universities.. They need to do more.. With support from you.. I am sure.. they can do better. Spread the Lords word I say... Allah who Akbar!
;)
BTW.. what is the problem you have with diversity?
What? .. you think everyone should only think like a Black Buddist?
Don't you want someone to read about the good book .. the bible or the gita or the book on "Cloning"?
So, If my local school district is predominantly Islamic and the school with my religion is like a 1000 miles away... I have to now send them 1000 miles commute or I have to move?
If your area is predominantly Islamic and the school with your religion is 1,000 miles away then it's not up to the govt. to make sure you have a short commute. There are also some non-religious private schools. The point, Private being the key word. If you lived in a predominantly Islamic area then someone would be stupid to not open up an Islamic school. The area that you live in generally reflects the private schools and business in the area because that's where the market is. Take a look at any area of a city, if it's an area that Asians generally live in there are Asian churches, schools, resturaunts, etc. etc.
Govt. Money already goes to private and or religious schools. The G,I bill, tax breaks etc. It's not unconstitutional, it only would be if they said the money can only go to one religion or private institution.
." It's not unconstitutional, it only would be if they said the money can only go to one religion or private institution. "
But you have not answered how you can distribute the $$$$$.
If you say divide the loot by 20 (Assuming there are 20 Religions (No sub classification here.. I mean the Shiets and the sunnies all come under ISLAM... That goes for Protestants too).
And none of the Groups can dictate what the criteria is either... Meaning A bunch of Muslims (or Catholics) deciding what constitutes a religion... Any faith based is equally faith based.. That goes for Devil worshiping or the Raelians.
Then I have no Problem.
What I see as a problem is A Group of Protestant deciding what constitutes a Relgion.. They would most likey exclude the "Devil Worshipper" "The voodoo cult" and the Raeliens by arguing tha Judeo Christianity is superior to those (as if) etc...If they take it to the world Council of the Theological Society .. the Judeo Chritianity will get their ass kicked by the Buddists and the Hindus in a theological discussion.. It happened once... and the Christians never ever participated again.... So, They would instead request the Govt.. to step in to settle this dispute... (The Govt.. would then establish the most "Natural Outcome"... Establish the predominant relgion then walk away with the biggest chunk of this look. Pretty Niffty and a sneeky way to establish a Relgion by the State in my Opinion.
Talking about Private school.. I am sure you can find a private school in your neighbourhood that subscribes to your religion Buddism (If that is your relgion).. I am sure..
Leave the Public school alone.. They have enough things to worry about... then kids having to say.. Islamic Prayers 5 times a day...
So, the "liberal agenda" is that Republicans are responsible for Wellstone's plane crashing and this is what is being taught in public schools? THX, this sounds rather far-fetched to me.

How about just being crabby or cynical all the time ? :)
every town in America should have a big billboard that says
"I doubt it"
Or simply go listen to George Carlin. Is he really that bitter in real life do you think or is it all his schtick ?
I don't find Carlin or his humor all that bitter...he's funny and human

BTW.. what is the problem you have with diversity?
What? .. you think everyone should only think like a Black Buddist?
Don't you want someone to read about the good book .. the bible or the gita or the book on "Cloning"?
Come on... Diversity is good.. trust me.
;)
I don't have a problem with diversity, when it's truly diverse and all inclusive.
