I've been messing with the BIOS, if I restore defaults, will that do anything?
Also, it had onboard sound and video. I found how to disable the sound, but when I boot, it wants to install the video adapter. I put in different sound and video.
Loaded Jaguar on two computers this week...I think I'm gonna really like it.
hey Rick...is 10.2 sweet or what?
I'll talk Mac with you all you like.
I have one of the original iMac DV SE Graphites (400MHz, 13.5GB) that I've had 10.2 on for awhile and I also just put it on my mom's iMac Bondi Rev B (233MHz, 4GB) which runs okay although you can tell it's the bottom of the scale for what can support the OS.
I have to use a PC at work though...1GB eMachine with XP on it. It's okay as far as those things go, but man sometimes it really shows me why I love my Mac so much
I do a lot of work on a iBook Special Edition we bought in 2000. Memory is on the low end for Jaguar, so I think I'll have get some more. It was kind of a pain to load Jaguar on the iBook because I first had to download OS 9.1, and then 9.2.
My wife has more use for a lot of the features than I do. She does web design. But I like the file sharing. Got a wireless network set up with an Airport.
because I first had to download OS 9.1, and then 9.2.
I loaded mine without Classic at all. If it's not native, I'm not interested...although I can see where others would need it still.
I have a mac.com account. At first I was sorta pissed that I was gonna have to pay just to keep my @mac.com address, but I have found the iDisk to be quite useful
You can never have too much memory...I have my iMac maxed out with a Gig of it.
What I did find, was that I was more effectively able to use the Epson printer we have with Jaguar than with OS X, which we had on the G4.
Before, I needed to take couple extra steps to print a document. A tech told me that Epson was working on compatibility, but the company wasn't there yet. Are Mac operating systems the last in line for peripheral makers to adapt their machinery?
Anybody ever set up a network? We got a laptop a few weeks ago. Last weekend, I tried to set up a network, but have failed somehow. On Sunday, I installed the hardware, and things seemed to be working fine, I could surf the net from the laptop. Monday, no connection. So I reinstalled the hardware, and it worked fine again. Since Tuesday, I've had a strong connection to the wireless router, but cannot access the web. I don't really know why.
did you clone the mac address of the machine originally connected to your cable modem into the wireless router? that'll usually keep it from connecting over a cable modem. you can trust me on this. i run a more complicated network here at home than most small companies do :)
Somehow, it seems to be working (I'm posting from the laptop now). But I don't know why. I just kept dicking around with the network settings. The true test will be to see if it works tommorow I guess.
excellent! right now i'm just irked at myself because i don't have a 4th network card in my firewall. my parents just got their dsl hooked up yesterday so for the moment, we've got a pair of dsl lines running into the house. it'd be so nice if i could route theirs and my sisters internet connections across their line instead of mine, because they still need access to my network. and i can't put one of the 4-port cards in the box becuase the pci bus in it doesn't support pci-pci bridges.
Boy, that new iTunes online Music Store that Apple has is a dangerous place.
You can spend money so fast there. It will take some discipline to avoid it. Yesterday, I downloaded a collection of songs by Chris Botti and a 15-year old Bob Dylan CD. We're putting ourselves on a once-a-month trip there.
I bought my wife and iPod for her birthday. They've dropped the price $100 on it, and brought in a high-end model with a 30 gig cacpacity, 7,500 songs. That's amazing.
Now, if you want to access any stories online, you have to register. I won't do it. We already get too many telemarketing calls over a subscrption we cancelled years ago. Who knows how much spam we'd get.
Not only that, they disable the browser's Back button, which locks you into the registration form.
fold, I am sorry to break this to you, but you are one of the ignorant. You really should win a prize for it.
Virtual Memory: MS-DOS compatibility mode
I also have a problem with Dual PCI IDE controller (parent) to Primary IDE controller (fifo) and Secondary IDE controller (fifo)
ares !
How did I do this, and can I change it?
windows 98 or 95?
I've been off a couple weeks. It's the one that I installed an IDE card in, then took it out.
It won't recognize the CD-ROM
hmmm. lemme think on that a bit.

if you changed any of the settings related to the hard disc or ide channels it may.
It's worth a try, but I'll have to wait 'til next week. We're BUSY today.

I have 10.1 for awhile and 10.2 was a BIG improvement for many things.
probably...yea.
The word is that they are holding off on killing "classic" until Quark or Corel or someone can get their software up to speed for X.
Good review on the new compact Powerbook in this week's Wall Street Journal. They liked the Safari web browser, too.
It seems like every time I go to FirstTech in Minneapolis someone is walking out the door with one. Makes me jealous.
Anyone have a need for a brand new 168pin 128MB PC133 SDRAM stick?
Asking $23 (Paid $28.60 w/ $5.00 shipping)
It works fine but will only work on newer machines and my machine is too old.
Figured it was worth asking instead of having to pay shipping costs to send it back.

Yep, that's part of the default install wizard.

Ares, you're up late!
yeah. there's a hunt going on :)
Makes sense. By the way, the laptop is working today as well. Wahoo!

Too high tech for my blood. I'm just hooking up two computers and had some trouble.
Crabgrass:
Just started working with iTunes, just ripping some CDs right now, but boy I really like that feature.
Have you done much work with it?
Thanks Bill. The Dude abides.

Rick, Have they released the Windows version of the site/program yet?
End of the year, they say.
Cool!
Get yourself an iMac and you can get it now. They're, reliable, stylish and good buy right now.
Scrap those cheap PCs they turn out like link sausages.
No Thanks.
:-)
The Star Tribune is a rag.

I heard they switched to registration.
They're going to lose tons of traffic to their site.
But there were already plenty of reasons to go Apple...."
Apparently some liberal(s) don't care for the capitalist Billy Gates. So they attack the most vulnerable, the home computer. How nice of them.
it sure looked like that was about computer geeks who don't like paying for sloppy code...what "liberals" have to do with that is beyond me.
They just want value for their money. Sound sorta fiscally conservative to me.
Rick, If Mac was as popular as Windows PC's, the same thing would happen to them.
if Mac code was as sloppy as Windows, yes.
If Mac was as popular as Windows PC's, the same thing would happen to them."
Macs would also have to be as cheap.
Wouldn't a shrewd consumer be more concerned about quality and not popularity?
But maybe you're not a shrewd consumer, JT.
And maybe you'll see future versions of Windows looking more and more like Jaguar.
Stupid worm hit our company hard today. Sucked. That is all.
There's plenty of places to exploit any OS. Truth is hardly anyone uses Mac, and that's why they don't write virii for it.
But go ahead and mock me if it makes you feel better.
Best Buy is looking into selling Apple products again.
Yeh.. we got hit by the worm here at my crib too...
That sucks J. I downloaded the patch last night, so I think I'm good here at home.
Best Buy is looking into selling Apple products again.
Let me know how that works out for them.
:-)
"There's plenty of places to exploit any OS. Truth is hardly anyone uses Mac, and that's why they don't write virii for it."
If that is trure, hould I feel let down?
Damn, we little Mac users don't even attract the attention of those innovative virus writers. What a tragedy.
You Mac users don't attract the attention of many software writers, period.
:-)
I manage to get by
You could get by with an abacus and a pencil.
You're not a very shrewd consumer are you, Rick?
"You could get by with an abacus and a pencil."
I doubt that.
"You're not a very shrewd consumer are you, Rick? "
I don't have any worms in my system now.
Neither do I.
Two PC's at home, one at work. Zero problems.
