So this is west of the parking lot and close to the high bridge? I think Yahoo maps has it pinpointed wrong. I remember being in that area after the Memorial Day fireworks, so I kind of think I know the area you mean. I suppose that area could fit moreso than the main part of the park.

Well if it is on Harriet Island, I say we rent a tent for the rehash as it's quite windy down there and there isn't really a place we can go and all keep warm.

A friend and I covered some of Cherokee today and a little bit of Harriet. This hunt is very frustrating. Just what I wanted!

It is extremely cold & windy down there!

Was also very cold and windy in Cherokee, near the Smith Ave bridge, this afternoon.

So when you say Harriet Island, you are actually talking about the "wild" part way to the west. And there are caves over there and a bait shop with a flag on it? If that's the case, then I could maybe see that being the spot. I may have to go look at it tomorrow in the daylight when one can see the Capitol.

If it is there, that seems a bit sad. That means all that's left now is to go out on to a frigid, windy, desolate part of the park and sift through grass and leaves until someone gets lucky and finds the right spot.

Yes, I like the puzzle of it. I don't care much for going out in the cold and digging through snow or raking through leaves. I just want to solve the puzzle. If that's the solution to the puzzle, the rest is kind of anti-climatical. The only reason I actually go out and physically look for the thing is to hopefully win the money, but that hope only carries me so far.

IM, HI and a few select streets downtown. I needs to get me one of those mirror sticks. I think they may come in pretty handy this year.
How cool would it be if the PP released a clue that took us a couple of blocks away. Everyone would do the mad dash from the PP over to, lets say Robert St. All in front of the cameras. CRAZY I tells ya!

By the way, if it is found tomorrow, how about a Pity Party at Fabulous Fern's in the bar area in the evening? You can come after the Superbowl if you want to watch it, or earlier if you don't. Or you can probably watch it there. That's assuming it's found sometime in the daylight hours.

And also, for those that didn't feel like you got your share of hunting in this year, remember, my Mock Hunt will be coming up at the beginning of March, probably starting on Sunday, March 9th. It's modeled after this hunt, only I write the clues for it. Last year we might have had as many as 100 people participating and we had a prize of $500. It was hidden in Phalen and went 11 clues. The year before was Linwood and I think that went 12 clues. So if you're interested in participating in that, either keep an eye out on these message boards or join my Yahoo Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theallisonwonderland/and I'll send out announcements about it.

Also, I'm planning a murder mystery weekend up in Two Harbors on the weekend of February 28th-March 2nd. The mystery will actually be based on a treasure hunt, only this one you get to solve from within the cozy comfort of a Superior Shores luxury resort lake house. We have space for 10 people to go as it's a 3 bedroom house with a loft and a sofa sleeper in the living room. The weekend includes accomodations, food for the weekend, a five person hot tub, and the mystery which will span from Friday night to Saturday night. The total cost is $80 per person. I just thought I'd mention it now while I have everyone's attention still. :-)

Hi all.

Spent several hours down by the bait shop tonight, found out alot of ideas for the area that match, but as with all of the parks I've been in so far this year, I have found an equal amount of things that make no sense at all. Keep in mind that the reason there were so many people in the west end, beyond Harriet Island tonight was because it is a)A Weekend -- notice how many joined the search that weren't doing it at all during the week. b) The last clue had lure in it and that was the only bait shop anyone could think of obviously. Many things match down there, and I am not saying that it's not down there, but I still think it's a wide open game...and that makes me smile. Take care all and good night.

Ok this is one theory:
What do people think about this: Raspberry Island
Jamie "Carpenter" made the big glass bandshell there--and the bandshell reflects the sun--the glass it's made of does not absorb the sun--hense clue 6. All of his architecture was termed "Walker." He is still living. And Harriet Bishop was a teacher and a talker. So maybe something like Harriet ran and ran (meaning park since Carpenter is a man still living) from Raspberry Island or something. Does that make any sense??
Otherwise how about that park near Capitol called Cass Gilbert or anywhere around there?! Do you think it's there?? We have someone there right now and people seem to be all there.

A wonderful gift from the Schubert Club will be completed this year. The Schubert Club Bandshell, designed by Jamie Carpenter, is a graceful, curving translucent structure of glass and stainless steel. Soon, on Raspberry Island, citizens will enjoy this wonderful new amenity.

Hi all,
Sorry for lurking, but I didn't have much to add until now. I backtracked the website the 'sheran' poem came from - it is 'http://www.geocities.com/butterfliesbreeze/intro.htm' so it seems legit. There's also another 'she ran' poem there too.
Also, Terry - if they are referring to HI, I think the 'doors will always be open' could refer to the gateway in the dike, as those 'doors' are only closed if there was a flood. Or maybe not.

"The City of Saint Paul, Division of Parks and Recreation has GREAT places to visit and FUN activities for the whole family to enjoy! Included among its facilities are over 160 parks and open spaces, 41 recreation centers, three 18 hole golf courses, 24 bicycle and pedestrian paths, one indoor pool and two outdoor pools, a public beach and a sports dome."

    AFTER-ACTION REPORT -HARRIET
No time to slog through all previous posts, just wanted to recap my impressions...
First off, I truly believe HI is the one, the prior post on why Harriet works is almost dead-on (there are other matches not mentioned. Bring your rake! The bait shop is called "River Road Bait Shop" address is 150 W. WATER Street. The street sign says 160 W. Water St. It has a U.S. flag flying on top and is next to 2 or 3 of the gangster caves (matched those "Saint Mudd" literary references, among others such as "warm, away from the storm, even in dead of winter." Now, dead of winter is a double clue and the med is likely hidden in leaves/brush->the dead of winter. Not only that, but it is likely to be on the north side of a tree (where the sun don't shine). There was about 20 or so folks when I left (1:30am) and the place WILL be crawling tomorrow. You CAN see the cap dome from the walking path nearby (through the skyline). WATER St matches numerous water references as well as "old man river" references. Walking/running path references match as well. I searched as fast and furious as I could, as I had noticed the spot two days ago and its neat potential for literary references. I also like the blinking neon sign, adds a nich touch. Now the path extends southward about 100 yards or so to the high bridge (matching other bridge leap references). This area got me so excited it matches almost every clue! Ask me! There is just too much leaf clutter to look thoroughly in the dark..and I have other commitments so this is why I am telling you. The med will be found near this spot or very close nearby. Also about 15 other folks scouring the areas under the high bridge where there is a small parking lot leading to the river (kinda scary area though). I scouted this in detail a few days back when Harriet first came up and it looks like the remnants of a bum camp so not sure if PP would really lead people down there (but it more closely matches the sun not shining reference and the other numerical references to the high bridge (169?) However, the area near the bait shop which is the entrance to the walk/run trail to Lilydale. GO FOR IT because I can't!

<----John Malkovich I'm in Vegas 1 more year!
    ANYONE STILL HERE???
I just got here, slogged a little but didn't see anything to interesting to my eyes. To me this is an obvious reference to a "midnight stroll" is there any other kind of stroll? and where better to do so then the PP around midnight??? I think it's within a few city blocks of the PP, hate to say it because of the ice sculpters, but someone needs to put a little time into Ramsey Park down there...I think everything fits all too well!!

My research--- The bait shop is built into the caves at HI
    Google--“precious to your soul”-
"Your gift," Gabriel said, "must be something of the essence
of yourself, something precious to your soul." (The Angel Gabriel watching over Jesus-3 men bringing Jesus gifts)
    Lots of references to Jesus/God/Bible
    Google—Carpenter- St. Paul, MN Woman/Female/Beau
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/local/4585482.htmMarion Carpenter...- Carpenter was one of the first female members of the White House News Photographers' Association (the group's Web site misspells her name Maria Carpenter) and was the only woman among a handful of "official" photographers who traveled with the president and covered him daily. She was about 24 when she arrived in Washington. Over the next five or six years she became a favorite of President Harry S. Truman and made her mark in Washington as a photographer of talent and temperament...... Carpenter liked to show old magazines to Allstopp and would often try to explain to her why certain photographs were composed the way they were...... Carpenter was divorced, after an early marriage to a Navy officer who abused her. In Washington, she fell in love with a prominent Capitol journalist. When the affair ended, a heartbroken Carpenter married for a second time. Her new husband, a radio announcer, took her to Denver, where she gave birth to a son in February 1950. By late 1951, the marriage was over and so was her career. She was 31...... Carpenter returned to St. Paul to take care of her aging mother in the family home at 1032 Conway St. on the East Side. A single mother with a small child and an ailing parent, she needed two jobs: running a wedding photo business and, falling back on her medical training, working as a private nurse. She stayed in the house until five years ago, when it was condemned by the city and torn down...... Carpenter's life after coming home to St. Paul is sketchy. She raced homing pigeons and she showed German shepherds

Jaz, allow me to ammend my statement:

    "I'm *always* wrong."

grni, I was out a bit yesterday. Was able to make it to BC... And, since I was the only one there I turned around and came home. Images o'Phalen when The Puck was Newell flashed through my mind. I'm a slow learner, but I do learn eventually!!!
