Just because you're the first to figure out the clues correctly doesn't mean you'll find it. Maybe if it's on a downtown corner you could. But once you get to the park, it's luck. Plain and simple. Allison is a great noodler of clues, and great at making clues for his own hunt. The best? I don't know if anyone is the best. But he's very good.
IF i found it I had this idea of giving it to some little toddler with a plastic shovel running around in the cold. can u see the parents face when the child walks up to them and says..see what I found? .....priceless... thats more my style
Actually I was in Merriam on Clue 4, but it was still pretty early.
Well I thought I remembered "What is considered the greatest sport?" as being a Trivial Pursuit question, but after looking at all the cards, I didn't see it.
According to the film crew, the kid who found it last year went to Merriam because of something I wrote. Did he give me any money? No. Should he have? Well he could have if he wanted to, but no, I don't think he owed me anything. He just read what was out there and it was my decision to offer it for free. I could sit here and not post my ideas and maybe offer them to certain people only, specifically in exchange for a share of the prize if they find it, but that's something they would have to agree to. So if I post my ideas here and they happen to be right, it's my decision to offer them freely or not and no one owes me anything unless that's a mutual agreement.
Now is it a bad idea to offer my ideas freely like that? Well that's a matter of opinion and will vary with individual values. Certainly the Medallionators would never be content with simply being recognized as good at noodling. Success to them, and to many others is measured by achievement. If you didn't find it, then you haven't really succeeded.
My opinion is different. Being able to figure out the clues helps, but in reality is probably the smallest component of finding the thing. Stamina and luck will weigh much more heavily. Jake is much more likely to find it than I am because even if I get the right park on clue #1, I'm likely to just be happy with that, and will just kind of poke around a bit hoping I'm lucky enough to stumble on it (and in reality I'm not that lucky). Jake may not get there until clue 12, but once he does, he'll stay out there for 24 hours straight, digging practically the whole time if that's what it takes.
So finding it isn't a big deal to me. It would be nice to have the money and nice to be able to say I found it, but solving the puzzle is mainly what interests me. Not standing outside in subfreezing temperatures doing a lot of manual labor and trying not to get an asthma attack all the while. And being willing to share my ideas has won me friends and I believe some respect, and even gotten me into the movie. So even if I haven't found the medallion, I still consider myself successful in terms of the things I value.
Actually that was Jake posting as Med 88. He called me on the phone. He agrees with me on Harriet and thinks I'm blowing it by telling other people about it. I can't actually disagree with him, and I think his concern is actually heartfelt judging by our phone conversation. He'd rather see me find it than some lurker, which as I understand it was kind of the point of this here thread. I'd still say Jake is fairly useless to the board, but if you didn't want to pull his access before, I wouldn't do it over this.
1. They don't even consider themselves part of the cooler crew.
"Me Who", "Cooler Who".....
2. They're trouble makers.
Calling us a bunch of dildo's. Telling us we're not going to find it sitting on our asses in front of the computer, nevermind that they had to post from a computer, presumably sitting on their ass. Oh, and the fake new release about cancelling the hunt.
3. They contribute nothing.
I can't think of a time this year that they've contributed to this hunt.
Thank you medallonis. What I find kind of funny though is that not a lot of people agree with me. I said it was at Merriam last year and a lot of people thought I was wrong. I swore it wasn't at Como the year before and that time I was wrong. On one hand, a single idea can really take hold and influence the crowd as we saw with McKnight Park. On the other hand, no one person really has the power to control where everyone goes.
These clues don't really seem to have solutions. More like just opinions. But my opinion is still Harriet. I think the greatest of sports could well be yachting as I seem to recall having heard it called that at one time (I thought it was in a Trivial Pursuit game but all I found was it referred to as the most expensive sport to participate in). Anyway, this spot in Harriet isn't even my idea. I got it from Ve Ri Tas, but having seen it now, I think it's the one. Many others don't. Everyone in the end is going to make their own decision.
Ok, I yanked their access to this thread but not the others, at least until we get this decided on.
btw AW, I don't agree with sharing everyting either but I don't tell you to shut up. I figure it's up to you to do what you want. I'd rather have a Cooler Crew member find it than anyone but, that's neither here nor there.
Nonetheless AW, I thank you for all your hard work and attitude. Not many people have the same values as you and I. I REALLY aprreciate it. If i did happen to stumble on it, I would make sure I said 'thanks to allison' in my interviews that would follow. but my luck is kinda like yours :)
AW, hi. All of the above statements were well said. I used to play the ponies, not to wig the big $, but to see if I could handicap my way to a winner. I find the hunt, the research, the comraderie, and the rest to be the value of this game. To actually find it, now that would be a bonus.
everyone must be at Harriet Island. too bad I have to work. I got peoples lives in my hand. hey wait!! i'll just get up and leave and let them be on there own.
I just can't quit Harriet because of the Carpenter bandshell. There's nothing better that fits. Not unless there's a bowed bandshell elsewhere built by Carpenter.
Allison, were you thinking chess as the greatest sport? That thought x'ed my mind, but chess is known as "the sport of kings."
And another random thought: "Parked among us..." and "laying"... They're definitely *not* saying buried anywhere this year - so of course Ittiz not buried anywhere.
Dr "justice" Ohage hmmm....
I'm still working on confirming my theory here anyway. I'm realying on a vague memory and I've been known to not remember things correctly.
Anyway, as far as Harriet goes, there was a big rush over there, but when I left just an hour later, the place was almost deserted.
I don't expect to be cut in if I give someone an idea, though it would be nice. I just happen to enjoy the glory of it all. hehe.
to me all this hunt is -just finding it. Id cherish that more than the prizes

I hear ya AW good answer :) I remember u were the only one who thought it was at Merriam last year lemme see..on the second clue I think it was.
I don't find it because I barely look for it.
People have their reasons for finding it. Would be nice to see a Cooler Crew member find it this year.
AW- im a member been for awhile now :)
IF i found it I had this idea of giving it to some little toddler with a plastic shovel running around in the cold. can u see the parents face when the child walks up to them and says..see what I found? .....priceless... thats more my style

Confusion sweeps through the cooler crew. film at 11
Harley-Davidsons' logo is the greatest of sports....hmmmmmmmmmm

Ok Gang,
I just read Med88 telling AW to shut up in the other thread and just generally being a jerk. Needless to say, I've removed his access.
Since Med88 is constantly logging in under Jakes ID, I removed Jakes access to this thread as well.
Jake still has access to the general threads but not this one. So, if anything happens, let ares or myself know.
Actually that was Jake posting as Med 88. He called me on the phone. He agrees with me on Harriet and thinks I'm blowing it by telling other people about it. How's this. We take a vote?
I vote for booting both of them.
My top three reasons:
1. They don't even consider themselves part of the cooler crew.
2. They're trouble makers.
3. They contribute nothing.
very good AW I am one that respects you. I believe in that as well

IF that was for me med master, my life is fantastic !! enriched with Jesus I wouldnt trade it for nothing
Speaking of those who disagree with me, you can probably expect a barrage of insults to come my way now from this medallion master creep.

IMO you are correct about HI...but for the wrong reason
You're thinking of a different sport that is connected to Harriet Island?
AW, hi. All of the above statements were well said. I used to play the ponies, not to wig the big $, but to see if I could handicap my way to a winner. I find the hunt, the research, the comraderie, and the rest to be the value of this game. To actually find it, now that would be a bonus.

I just can't quit Harriet because of the Carpenter bandshell. There's nothing better that fits. Not unless there's a bowed bandshell elsewhere built by Carpenter.

Fitful sleep. Noodled more than slept I think...

Unfortunately, duty calls and I won't be going out hunting.
Another thought... In years past the cops had been all over us when at Harriet... Don't see this happening *this* year, doya?
Straight Joe!!!
