1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

10g's

newell is to small of a park i was one of the first to comment on newell but now that i look at the size of the park i just don't think they'd put it at such a small park for 10,000g's

Can anyone think about how todays clue stubstantiate Newell... I don't really know the area well.

Anyone watching KARE, they have a reporter at Como to talk about the medallion hunt

Newell Park is actually located at Pierce Butler and Fairview. Stay off of Energy Park Drive cuz you won't get to Newell from there.

oh, but why not at Newell? Small yes, but perfect for hiding

10g's, although that is a valid issue, I am not sure that the amout of the prize would necessarily disclude anywhere. Plus the iconoclast thing could be referring to that... I don't know...

Where precisely do you think it is hidden in Highland Park?

shayle, why wouldn't that mean Macalaster, or U of M, St. Paul, or an elementary school? What I am trying to ask is who they equate to Hamline specificly?

I say Newell just because I was there, and it looked feasible. I wouldn't rule out anywhere else though.

Actually, where CAN we rule out and why?

all this HP talk and no action-- saw a few diggers at the Highschool fields (can they do that?) but otherwise pretty dead. I am keeping the faith but rather intrigued by the linwood idea.

Kare 11 just talked to somepeople and they are coming up some pretty stupid reasons as to why they are at Como.. they concentrated on como.

Thu, 01/28/1999 - 5:05 PM Permalink

Where is Linwood, and what is that reasoning?

There are also houses around Phalen that have 9's, 5's, and 4's.

Kare 11 had a couple of wayward teens and somebdy who wanted a Bloody Mary. Nothing too Important.

As far as Highland is concerned...I think it is on the field(s) by Snelling Ave.

The gates at Phalen were locked again last night... That is about the only thing that turns me off from Phalen. What does eveyone else think about that?

theyre (KARE) just at como cuz of the craze-- why would they go somewhere completely dead? any thoughts on it being hidden on school property? I say no , but..... anyone?

como could be the place if the pioneer place really wanted to mess with all the hunters, I mean they've never put the medallion in the same place 2 years in a row, why not put well and new in a clue, get everyone to look there and have it be at como. But there's still to many possibilities.

shayle, I am thinking the same thing you are. I dug a little bit around the area last night, will probably dig around there again. The "somewhere a 4" is in sight but I won't tell either

Well, here's another thought. Why haven't we had a water clue yet? They ALWAYS put a water clue in when it's near water, becuase it's generic. But since there is no water clue, I'd keep an eye out for the H20 tonight

Phillip, good point about the gates; but I don't think it's in that part of the park. I was thinking more by the old Gillette Hospital-where the ball fields are.

10g, I was at Newell for 4 hours, and I left around 7. There was at most 15-20 people at one time.

Just a thought. Now I haven't read all of todays messages so I don't know if this has been covered. This site is all messed up! I hope they fix it soon. They only let me get to a certain number then I have to start all over.

Anyway- this probably has no hidden meaning but I was looking through the past clues and went back to in 1995 it was buried at Battle Creek, but on clue 7 it as this---" consider a place to learn as you try to descern--The location of your quarry.-- And if you need guidance on where to trun--just keep your search elementary." That year the medallion was found after clue 6 so would they would they use a clue with words that were close to a past clue?

Also what do you think about it being the 150 anni. and them buring the medallion in the old treasure chest that was originally used?

My gut is still telling me that it's in HP, but we did swing by BC last night and that park is huge!!

Lady C, I have been out at Phalen for the past 3 nights as long as a few other parks. I have gone over much of that area by the ball fields that has to do with the clues.. I am at a loss if it is by the old hospital as to where to look.

I've got a revelation for you all, this may be stupid to tell people, but hopefully no one will listen. They know there is gonna be alot of us out there this year. They know they have to make this good and hard until later than usual, even if it means fooling us a bit. So if we dont read into the clue too much, I think it is obvious they are trying to tell us NOW with clue 4, that something is different about this years hunt. Either its not in a park it has ever been in or its in a park it was recently in, like Como. I could be way off base here, but one last time I am going to say look at the ANAGRAM thing take the first letter from each paragraph people, and organize them, I'm Tellin Ya There Is Something There! I think this is something worth learning, by being smart and discerning. Here are the letters T A F N S I - It cant be a coincidence that 5 of 6 FIRST letters they give us spell SAINT! How about SAINT F------ (Saint Francis) A certain park looks right over this church! And its just hard enough that it could take us till the 9/10 clue to get this! Listen if you want, Blow me off if you want, But this isn't much of a stretch either! Just wait and if the first letter of tonights clue is a R,A,N,C,I, or S then the odds go up on this little park! Good Luck! But I think there is an anagram there even if that is not it, and don't expect it to say the parks name this year!
