William, your talking about zoom reminded me that in the old days, they use to use the hill on Highland Pkwy, next to the water towers for the Soap Box Derby (kids zoom).
By the way, for anyone who missed it and wants to get a good bit of history, check out Greg Sax's posting #901, Past Hiding Places of the Medallion/Chest, it goes back to 1952. It was posted late last night.
I just got back and there aint a soal at cherokee, prospect is completly dug up, and mounds seems dug up too. Mounds is flooded with people and i think if it was there it be found. But at cherokee theres places where you can see the cathedral, the capitol and the smoke stacks, so me thinks its there.
Your all way off base!! Its in Cherokee Park. The Rosebud does not refer to the sled in Citizen Kane. It refers to Rosebud Ridge from Custers last stand. Which means Indians. All the streets that run into Cherokee Park are the names of Indian tribes. Also the street Orleans, which I believe refers to New Orleans runs directly into the park. The City streets that lead to the park. You can see the NSP smokestack,The one on top of the First National Bank, the domes of both the Cathedral and the Capital which is demo and mode in the word jumble. And much more!!!
WW-did you happen to see the area on the corner of Thorn and Mds blvd? east? Lots of oaks, next to the old Hosp? Also, there's a Mounds Park (not Indian Mounds) on Mclean st NW of Indian Mounds? What do you think of Shepard as a city street that leads? I'm depressed until 11pm.
Ottawa and Orleans both run into cherokee, standing by the high bridge facing towards the NSP bldg. Orleans is 1 block to the right and Ottawa is 1 block to the left.
We are really thinking Highland park is a very very strong contender. It fits all the clues. Clue 2 says in the neighborhood are water and woods. There are a few possibilities. There are the water towers, there are sort of woods nearby, there is a golf course that has water and woods referring to the golf club, also, the street Beechwood runs right into the park.
Clue 3 referring to sledding, it has great sliding hills.
Clue 4 the object to help guide you could be the big water towers or the old water tower with a light on top.
Clue 5 the wintry place to play could be either the sliding hill or either of the skating rinks. Also, the streets Rome and Montreal run right into the park.
Clue 6 there is a running track there and also you can see the NSP smoke stack from there and if not the stack, you can see the smoke.
Anxiously waiting till 11:30. Any comments from the peanut gallery?
Guns, your here! Mikey and I are putting things on hold until lucky #7. It's a good night to watch, soak sore muscles ;-), and maybe soak my brain. One of these years, I'm going to lose my job. I'm thinking of starting a support group for individuals and families of treasure victims. Dogs are good, Bansh just missed the diaper. Highland scares me. Luck all.
For you treasure hunt die hards, I have a trivia question... The Pioneer Press has made 2 typos regarding the correct clue number for that days clue in the past 10 years. What years and clue numbers were misprinted? Any idea?
jake jones its a book that tells you all of the parks, and a little about them. brief and sorta detail, good for the guy who dont know much about all the parks.
Clue 1:A St Paul Park - Highland Park is a regional, not municipal park. Mounds Park - a actual city park
Clue 2:Water and Woods lots of scenery - sure, could be Highland, but isn't it a little too obvious? Mounds Park - the river, the bluffs, a panorama of the city.
Clue 3:Rosebud - Thorn Street
Clue 4:Large object in view guide you, crack our code, demo - the beacon, the signals used by pilots, flight simulators
Cherokee seems like it has too many reaches, the street names, usually street names comeout in clues 789, not this early, I like mounds with the beacon lite
RED DOG, I think your right. After lunch I spoke to the old ladys at the table next to us.No great ideas, they are still stumped. After that I rolled by Mounds, it's starting to get dug up. On my way home I stopped at Prospect park and can across Bill the winnabago man.He is also still stumped. But Brit the wonder dog and I are ready to go and time.
Jake Jones - The main book that the hunters use is called 'St. Paul Parks, A Treasure Hunter's Guide 1996' from Hunter's Press, 2141 Palace Ave. St. Paul. I also like to use the newest edition of 'Hudson's Twin City Street Atlas'. It shows alot of detail. And of course the Water Cooler has it's moments as well. Hope this helps. You just beat me Jenny.
Just got back from Mounds with all the youngsters in tow- IMHO there are plenty of places left to dig up. I didn't think there were really all that many people there; I have seen far more in past years at other parks. Diggin not too tough this year- light fluffy snow makes it easier plus it is sooo warm. Should be lots of folks out Sat(that is if we don't find it tonight!!!) Has the treasure ever been found at night?

I used to always zoom down that hill on my Rosebud years and years ago.
By the way, for anyone who missed it and wants to get a good bit of history, check out Greg Sax's posting #901, Past Hiding Places of the Medallion/Chest, it goes back to 1952. It was posted late last night.

There are flower beds by the scenic overlook in Cherokee where the binoculars are, do roses bloom there in summer?

Clue 5:City Streets, wealth immeasurable - Reserve Street, (FED)
Clue 6:Wrong track, blow your stack, plume of smoke - the railroad tracks, and the trains.
If anybody can refute these, set me straight!
Cherokee seems like it has too many reaches, the street names, usually street names comeout in clues 789, not this early, I like mounds with the beacon lite
