Natalie was born in December 1999. Hard to believe she's 3 already. We were trying to remind the kids about the ReHash bash....what it is...eating outside in the winter, etc. Realized that the middle child was only like 10 months old at the 1st one at Cherokee. And now, she's in kindergarten. I know it just stands to reason that 5 years pass and the kids will get older.....maybe it's just *me* that doesn't want to face it.

I found out why I was already registered at ezboard. That's the type of forum that's used where I found out the info on my dad.

Good that you figured that out. Otherwise it's like the twilight zone.

I will try and get there as early as possible. I love the Re-Hash!

PP has served notice: no more Mr. Nice Guys. From now on the THG is just the beginning to what we have to know to solve the clues. We need to study the local history and have an extensive knowledge of local businesses and geography. Out-noodle those Johnny/Jenny-come-latelys who jump in on the final clues. Find the med before it gets that far!

L'Etoile du Nord, French tricolor, Legions were supposed to lead us to Frogtown. Frogtown begins in the vicinity of SE Como Park. I've been kicking myself steadily since the explanations came out.

I lived in the Burlington Apartments just south of McMurray Field from June 1991 to May 1993 and road my bike thru the EEE entrance at least a couple hundred times without looking at the E.E. Englebertson name. Gabe's and Frogtown were just next door. 'Keep yourself warm and away from the storm even in the dead of winter' should have been automatic for the Conservatory. I went there dozens of times to experience the amazing change from winter to summer.

These clues were great. We were just locked into the psychology of No Como because the med had been there in 2001. Avoid tunnel vision.

Does anyone know what happened to our banner?

Actually it's called Social Singles.

I have to disagree with Regman about the clues. I think you might have figured out clue 5 if you already suspected Como, but otherwise who has time to go into that kind of depth of research on every park? I know one person who claims to have figured out the French school in clue #4, but still didn't consider it a valid explanation because of it's distance from the park. And as for clue 7, I challenge you to find the criticial information in that clue even now that you know the answer, using only what was given in the clue. And again, even if you did find it, what reason would you have for believing that was truly the right explanation?

And to be honest, if this is going to be the difficulty of the clues, my attitude then is forget it. I, like most people I suspect, am just not inclined to put hours and hours of research into this. And for the small handful of people who actually might possibly have come up with some useful information that would have led them to Como, the clues didn't really lead them to the right spot, and for the number of people who might have happened to the right area anyway, they're not too likely to actually find it if it's well hidden. So then what happens is every year, no matter how well you may think the clues are written, they'll be essentially nothing but a pointless academic exercise as it will always come down to a 12th clue crap shoot in the end. Jake called me tonight and was trying to tell me he thought my clues were even harder. Well every one of my clues was figured out by someone, almost always within the first hour of it coming out. Yet the answers were hardly obvious in many cases which is how I think it should be. I'd say if 20% of the people can figure out the clue the day it comes out, that's probably a good clue as it rewards the clever without being impossibly difficult.

I've been an individual hunter for a couple years. It's and impossible situation when the hunt comes down to the mad dash scrum of a 12th clue. I would like to meet you all at the Rehash.

I don't know. Maybe being it had the original coolercrew.com thing on it, it may have been destroyed if the PP had it.

The clues weren't too hard this year. They were simply misleading.

They gave us a kick in the ass.

We asked for it.

Let's move on. That's what I say.

Fri, 01/31/2003 - 10:55 PM Permalink

It wouldn't have been destroyed at the rehash. Was it there last year? Or was it at Como the last time? CRAFT!!!

I think they might also have been making a reference to Estabrook - babbling brook - in addition to Bilansky. Clue 3 should have already put us in Como. EEE gate is in THG.

Oh! That makes a bit more sense than where I went with that.

Once we got to Como, the 10,000 monkeys approach used in HI might have turned up the med.

They also have 7 clues already done for their first mock hunt, and just found out that when the C.C. does their's they have cash prizes, and a real coin...

THX 1138

I had a great hunt.

The only thing I didn't like about it is, the end result had nothing to do with noodling ability.

It took no talent to find the puck this year either.

The good thing is, the one kid that found it has been doing it for ten years.

Good for him, that's what I say.

Yeah, it would have.

There's a sign/banner company near my work. I think I'll go over there someday and check out how much it is to have one made.

Fri, 01/31/2003 - 11:04 PM Permalink
ThoseMedallingKids

Yeah, that's the problem I have with the hunt. People with good noodling ability have a better chance because they can get to the right park sooner, one would think. This year it basically was a one day hunt, in a sense.

Fri, 01/31/2003 - 11:05 PM Permalink
Terry

I agree with that whole-heartedly. The prize was found by a true hunter. They qualified for the full prize. Can't get any better than that unless one of us had found it.

About the clues....

I don't think the clues did a very good job of pointing toward Como in the first place. Even considering the earlier clues, the things that were referred to were so far apart (the EEE, french school), it would have been hard to determine that they were talking about Como.

And yes - we were naive to not have suspected Como again so soon. What could have been crueler?

Kids - actually, YES. Pretending to skate with you last year is what made the light go off for them. Then they knew what I was talking about.

I say we just make a point of being nice to them and welcoming to them on Sunday. And then everyone can still have fun that day. After that, we can each do our own thing and everyone will be happy. And then when theirs blows up (and I'm still saying it will, 60 days max), then the ones who want to get away from it will hopefully remember that the Cooler Crew really wasn't so bad after all when they met us at the Rehash, and maybe they'll head over here.

Agreed, I was thinking about that too.

Hmm, the playground is nearby. No ice for skating though. Have to think of some other things to entertain the kids.

As for the DJ, well he'll be limited to the gazebo, and if anyone really wants to get away from the music, I guess they can walk down to the fire ring. I wish the two were closer together though.

I wonder if the puck posse would be really mad if a cooler crew person found their mock hunt treasure?

Fri, 01/31/2003 - 11:11 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

I also wish the two were closer. But hey, maybe there will be too many people for the pavilian to hold. That would be way cooler!

Good thinking TMK! If they want competition, we will give it to them, in the area we know best: medallion hunting!

It's not easy to check out of here for the night...but that's what I must do. Eight hours of sleep, some shopping, a birthday party and then prepping whatever we bring.

Maybe some sort of dessert?

Goodnight, SCDs and MCL!!

There is all the activity over at the Winter Carnival Park if it's not crazy busy over there.

I'm heading for the sheets. Goodnight, SCDs and MCL!!

Way ahead of ya on that one... Should be fairly easy, especially if over half their clues have been thrown together within a few hours...

I'm sure being the weekend, it will be pretty "crazy busy" there. But the playground will take care of them for quite awhile. Food is a good diversion too.
