I had to laugh my ass off, a lil while ago... my dad ended up getting some drinky drank, and after he started gettin a lil loopy, he went and got out this old ass picture album... and there's a picture of his mom (my grandma), that was taken way before my dad was born... it had to have been taken, in the 30's or 40's or somethin im not sure exactly... although I would guess the 40's would be accurate...you can tell by lookin at my grandma, in the picture, that she's real young.... but anyhow... in the picture, she's sitting on one of the walls, along the edge of the Frog Pond.
I spit out a bunch of..... whatever I was drinkin at the time, and literally fell outta the chair laughing.... and he was like "What?? Whats wrong??".... so I had to sit there and "try" to explain to him about the Frog Pond...
Lots of slogging to do tonight considering the big hunt is over for the year.
We managed to get our Christmas stuff taken down up north here today, secured the garage door, made a big batch of spaghetti sauce and had our neighbor over for dinner. Now I have a bunch of dishes that need doing.
I need inspiration for the dishes though. I'm outta get up and go.
I go walking into work tonite and my fav manager is making a HUGE mess o'*my* Sbarro - flour all over the place... And as I come walking up he says, "Say, you with the Medallion committee?" Word has it around here you work on that." Explained no, I wasn't with the St. Paul Heritage Foundation, or whatever, nor did I work for the Pioneer Press - but I *did* hunt The Med.
Well! Come to find out - he's been hunting since BC and was doing a lot of talking to Steve this year!!! Who, according to Paul, my manager, was convinced it was in Mounds... For the past two weeks Paul had been lamenting the fact that he couldn't believe that nobuddy at work but him hunted The Med or knew anything about it!!! I, of course, missed all this because I'd not worked the Sat nites during The Hunt sos I could hunt (had I had a way to get there...).
So, we just yakked it up BIG time and re-hashed the whole hunt... And come to find out, I was like just feet away from him at Conway - which he didn't get to until Conway Twitty!!! And he was just beside himself when he realized it was Conway as he was then manager at the Leeann Chin's at SUNRAY and TOTALLY blanked on the transparent peaks!!!!!!!!
Sos I say to him, "Ever hear o'The Cooler Crew?"
"Oh, sure! I read their stuff." (Then how the hell did he take so long on getting to Conway???? Maybee that was before he found us.)
"So. Then you're a Coolerhead."
"Well, I don't post. I just read."
"AH-HA! A LURKER! Well, that's otay. You're still a Coolerhead, ya'know. Ever hear of 'green'?"
"Oh, sure! I know who green is."
"Yeah, you do, more than you know."
"Huh?"
"I'm green!!!"
Thought the man was gonna pass out!!! "YOU'RE GREEN?!!!" Said, "In the flesh!" He couldn't believe it!!! So, I told him all the history, filled him on The Pre-Dig Gig, Pity Party, and Re-Hash Bash, us leaving MomPress - and why, us here, our Web site, blah, blah, blah. We talked 'The Hunt' and talked and talked and talked!!! He even stayed late just to gab about The Hunt!
Hiyall! Can't stay long, just checking in. We're just settling in for our 2nd movie of the night.
We had spaghetti too - but I did the lazy kind. Buca.
Sure got cold fast this evening! For awhile this afternoon, the kids were happy to play outside. They didn't even want to go out to Target tonight - too cold!
I'd better get the leftovers packed up and sit down or I'll miss the show. Later!
What's odd - or at least I think so, Ter, is that he's called me "the green lady" before as I always have green on. He never picked up on that!
I'm just ssssooo excited! It was like finding a relative, you know what I mean? He understood everything, talked my language, knows about the obsession, EVERYTHING!
Nodded his head as I talked about "the sub-culture" that The Crew is - how we're one made of many, and really just a large family. He understood completely and said, "You'll never find a nicer bunch of people than those that Hunt The Medallion."
It is the GREATEST feeling in the world when you run into another that so completely understands the depth of feeling for The Hunt. There's an instant bonding.
I guess one reason it was so thrilling was because I was living my Hunt life out here, in a setting I never dreamed would involve The Hunt. Both lives - the real one and my yearly two-week long one - meshed, and it was SO COOLER!!!
I mentioned how I was really in the Frog Pond this year, as I was convinced it was Chair-O-Key, and he GOT IT! Said, "Yeah, the clues had us all over the place."
that's too funny, green. i can say however that there are some med hunters that aren't so nice (the guys with the leaf blowers come to mind here). as for being in the frog pond, well, look at my new pic. nuff said :)
Green - Remember that place on West 7th that we had one of our first Shooting the Breeze - Live! thighys? Remember that they closed at 9? How the H did we ever pick that place?!?! We played 500 as I recall...and it's where Inks got his name.
That place has changed hands. It's a Mexican restaurant now.
Isn't that SO COOLER, Ares? I'm still just all giggley over it! I can't wait to close with him! We'll have the best time!
He said that Steve and Cathy were together a lot this year, which he thought highly unfair. I asked why, since the same person finding it again is pretty rare. He also said that he's changing his strategy. That he used to hunt a night a lot. I said, "While it has been found at nite, that's pretty rare, too." He said he now realized that.
I told him how I've come to learn that if green's the ONLY PERSON in the park, The Med's not there. He laughed so hard over me digging out the books at Phalen at 2:30 in the morning without a single other person there (Allison, walking the paths over by the lake that nite does not count. I didn't know he was there until later.)
Ter, I remember reading that. The Seasons - wasn't that it? But I thought Inks got his name at McGovern's.
Growing pains, Ter, growing pains. That was when we didn't want to ride the coat tails of the Vulcans. And speaking of growing pains, if you remember there *was* a time when we were a big pain in the ass at McGovern's. Yup. Remember?
Well THIS year Pat - hizzelf - came downstairs to ask Me2 if the room was okay with us, blah, blah, blah!!! He said, "green, how are you?!"
Times change. And this year we made history. Those clues are on record.
Grate story Green. It turns out I work with the son of Queen mally. He told her a guy at work takes a week off every year for the hunt and they figured out who I was on the cooler site and we met at the re hash bash it's such a small world.
OF COURSE, you silly thing! LOL!!! But I think he's still stuck "over there." He HATES the format, like we do. Told him about this joint - but I couldn't remember the URL, or the one for our site... Any news on getting our domain name bock?
I'm going to see if he works tomorrow and if so I'll write down the URL's and take them up there to give to him.
as scribe is fond of saying, saint paul is the biggest small own in america, esd. i've said it here more than once but i just learned back in october that my grandmother more or less worked for me2's great aunt a half century ago in hinckley. plus, she went to high school with a guy i work with every day.
not too bad reg, and you?

But I don't wanna! I wish I had a dishwasher!!!!
dont eat too many Rice Krispies for dinner.... sickness follows.
With or without the captain? :)
EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWW!
That it is.
Hey Mom!
I had THE NEATEST thing happen to me today!!!
I go walking into work tonite and my fav manager is making a HUGE mess o'*my* Sbarro - flour all over the place... And as I come walking up he says, "Say, you with the Medallion committee?" I had SO MUCH FUN and it was WAY COOLER!!!
Hiyall! Can't stay long, just checking in. We're just settling in for our 2nd movie of the night.

ISN'T that just cooler'un cool, Reg?!!! He's going to try making The Pre-Dig Gig and Re-Hash Bash next year!!!
Must be a spaghetti sort of night. Enjoy the show, Mom.
Sounds like you found yourself a hunting lurker sort. Too funny that he didn't know you were you as the green one.

It is the GREATEST feeling in the world when you run into another that so completely understands the depth of feeling for The Hunt. There's an instant bonding.
Some folks are just clueless even when they see the clue standing before them.
I am going to go do dishes. Better now than face them in the morning. BBIAB
I guess one reason it was so thrilling was because I was living my Hunt life out here, in a setting I never dreamed would involve The Hunt. Both lives - the real one and my yearly two-week long one - meshed, and it was SO COOLER!!!

Thass otay, Reg. They just don't know any better. At least you've seen The Light!
that's too funny, green. i can say however that there are some med hunters that aren't so nice (the guys with the leaf blowers come to mind here). as for being in the frog pond, well, look at my new pic. nuff said :)
Dishes are done!!!!

Eastie! Isn't that Cooler????!!!!!!! Don'tcha love it?!!!
Yup. It was the Seasons. Inks became Inkle Bob there...it was later at McGovern's that he became Inks.
And as far as McGovern's goes...it's about time we got some respect from that joint!!!!
as scribe is fond of saying, saint paul is the biggest small own in america, esd. i've said it here more than once but i just learned back in october that my grandmother more or less worked for me2's great aunt a half century ago in hinckley. plus, she went to high school with a guy i work with every day.
Ares you look like your having to much fun with that frog....
It becomes more so the older you get and the more folks you get to know.
"Inkle Bob"! I'd forgotten that!
I named Inks and I named Eags.
I'm witchew, Ter. We've given them a whole hell of a lot o'bidness in five years...
Remember Inks burfday - MINE'S TWO WEEKS FROM YESTERDAY, BY THE WAY!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!! - when the lights went out and the window got all wobbly?
what reg said, esd :)
