Prize: 1 flashlight
Hunt duration: until the snow melts
Clue: only 1 clue!
11 at 10, it started the race
'tween Bear and Marley to the flag place
but along the way,
I'm sad to say,
I dropped my lucky light somewhere in white space.
If you begin at the main entrance, seeing the flag pole,
look for large bear tracks that make big holes.
follow them down, straight as you please,
and look 'till you're en-lightened with great ease.
lots of references to bears and churches
What are Longfellows colors?
What are Longfellows colors?
depends
hmmm, onto something quite different...
That 'old school' in front of Highland Sr high was moved there from the Randolph / Snelling area- called Mattocks School there is a Mattocks Park in Highland park- just a thought-hard to make that into a clue-
PEW' smelly but sweet-I think I know what this is but need to figure out some other clues before spilling it.
Johnson is ---ah, who cares ;)
:: sticks tongue out at me2 ::they're maroon and white!
Clue #1
to begin with. Marley was dead: that clever rapscallion
it was he, not the bear, who found kilty's medallion
Spriung is sprunging, wedding bells will be ringing
and March Madness is soon near.
But don't despair - here's some help from the Bear:
if you read this, you've gone too far.
Clue 2
a year has passed since I wrote this note
but I should have known it right from the start.
Recent No Doubt
Gives serious clout
but for The hunt, think Old School.
Clue #3
The meaning of life, now that’s a search
It’s the small details that’ll give you a lurch
Cold beer, MNF, the look in her eye,
That thirty years later still makes you cry.
It’s the latter for which this bear is hunting,
Because sometimes love really means nothing.
Clue #4
Hosanna! rat giantism
If you're lost, confused, check out this story
take a trip down the walking path, you'll be in hunt territory
start north and not west, and you'll find the way
but if you go far you've been led astray
Clue #5
Beyond the rainbow's end
Nothing is what it seems
Solicitous? May cost you a friend.
Forever follow those dreams...
Tomorrow is a brand new day; today repent and pray.
Clue #6
We’ve reached the half-time
Of our little game
The clues will get harder
Time to be fanning the flame
So keep searching, but to this remain true:
Cross the road, you’ll see sweet smelling ‘pew
To your left, get a bearing
In this neighborhood, two colors you should be wearing
Well, how about Palace, St. Claire, Linwood or MLK?
geeesh-even Irvine works ok- but not really any 'paths' but forepaughs -makes me think of bear claws and a view of the nsp stack and a church and the 'dead end' street - but I dont think its at this park.
Carroll runs into Merriam- MLK- and Jimmy Lee (that would be a gang area by Central high too). no tennis though.
Langford has a school and re-creation center with tennis courts. and St Anthony could be a 'church reference' -still dont like it though.
Lawson and Rice actually looks good- cemetery near it - can see church steeple and football field - St Bernards for led astray =dog - It is a park to the east of town and called 'north-end'. don't know what could be smelly sweet though.
Linwood -tennis courts and schmidt brewery seen - re-creation center looks like an old red school house. can see palace rec-rainbow?? --monroe -Old school? -compost site across the sweet smelly 'pleasant' ave. I guess this went to the top of the list for the next 5 minutes :)
LEWIS park- Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland AW's idea with March Madness
ahh. the smell of rotting compost :)
Brand New Day is also sang by NO DOUBT
In the wake of winning their first Grammy Award, the band took the stage for a club show at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday night.
The 1 hour and 45 minute set included covers of the Police's "Message In A Bottle" with guests Brandon Boyd and Mike Einziger of Incubus joining No Doubt on stage. The band also played U2's "Sweetest Thing" with a guest appearance by Gavin Rossdale of Bush.
So are we looking for THE POLICE or the 'message in a bottle' (what its hidden in)
ALSO a note- No Doubt and Sting sang together at SUPERBOWL 1/2 time-They sang 'Message in a Bottle' -it was awesome-but it was not No Doubt and "the police' it was Sting so maybe this 2nd clue is the 'what its hidden in' clue.
other stinky places=== 3M on the east side near east7th st. & the ethenol plant on west7th st at the brewery.
Umm.. didnt they just recently tear down part the 3M building on 7th?
<:edit:>
Line 1 you can spell 53 parks!
Line 2 you can spell 10 parks!
Line 3 you can spell 2 parks!
Line 4 you can spell 1 park!
Within all the lines you can spell 26 parks!
That makes 92 parks you can spell in clue 1!!
5 parks are missing from the list! (there are 97 parks!)
^To me Clue #1 is saying ITS IN A ST PAUL PARK !^(i know duh but I thought I would say it)
Wow Me2! ; > )
parts of the 3m complex is still there, vj. as far as i know, for the moment at least, only the building between forest and earl has been razed.

The police precinct is on the corner of Minnehaha and Payne.
I know my head hurts from doing so many anagrams!
I can get a good one for every park!
So I am just going to go to every park tomorrow and search! hehe!

Clue #7
Jesus in Jello, God shows his face
In mysterious ways to the whole human race
Turn southward, he’ll show you a sign
To find the puck, check the Y line

Hamline has a church across the street- on Snelling

Clue #8 - Sorry it's early
My great Aunt Honey's jam
was the best in the South.
And the Food, Glorious Food
nearly melted in your mouth.
So its between the Craft building and the Food building at the State Fair?
Food Glorious Food
Clue #9
The hunters are closing; the clues are too easy
I'm wringing my hands and re-writing till queasy
Everybody loves Him, I wish they would say
then I'd be allright, at least for today
melts in your mouth--m&m's ;)
I love all the 'bear' references -
Honey comes form bee hives Jam comes from fruit put into Jars or preserves? near a preserve?
Everybody Loves RAYMOND ;) !
Now I am dancing cause I figured out the park in 8 clues- I got both clues tonight a bit ago- But I do have to say that someone else in the COOLER figured it out on clue 8 too! but he got the clue last night so he figured it out before me! ;)
I still don't buy tonights clue being what it is cause techniqually clue 4 gave us the st names and clue 9 just gives us a more 'area' -usually you narrow it down.
I loved it though -even if I don't actually find it in the park - I love personalization! an excellent way to portray this particular park! feels good to have a nice hunt--Thanks RedBear- Now if I ever get the truck and time to go look-
on Sunday, Mar. 2, 2003 - Regman found my medallion, a franklin hockey puck - up a tree, hidden in a coke bottle - at S. St. Anthony park on whe west side of town. He correctly figured out that I got way too cocky and gave out the cross streets in clue 4.
Congratulations, Regman! Now I know what don boxmeyer feels like after a 6 clue hunt...(sob)
Redbear
--will post explanations in a while.

And again
GOOD JOB REGMAN!!!!!! (when we going to the game--hehe)
Does Marley know it's been found? I'd hate to think he's still out there looking.
Did you get pictures?
Never mind. Marley knows.
hehe Oh yeah marley knows!
I didnt have my camera with ! damm again!
So what does this mean, since it seems like Marley didn't even get to park. Is the streak over?
Seems to me Marley made it to the park...just late. Darn cars that don't run on love, heh?
I might have gone out there sooner, after I figured it was there. I need work done on my brakes though. I'd rather not drive in it if I have to.
