so,,, in journalism we were talking aboutthis case from the late 1860's in london, from the london times. thier was a guy, who had famious relitives, he came to town,, took a cab to his brother in laws, just talked to the person at the door, and then went to go buy a new hat. he bought one and had it ordered to be delivered at his broinlaws house. then he dissapeared. about 2 miles away in a large park his hat was found. the family was offering a 10,000 (PS,it went to 10k i think about 12 days after it started) dollar reward o find this guy. so everyday the times would write more theories about this guy, and what happened to him.... the way people were reading this story for this guy,, and the way everyone was just out looking for him sounded exactly like our treasure hunt... and then, it turned out, the guy was just hanging out at the beach. so it was just a disapointing as the real hunt.
I like more hunts cause I can get some practice in while not getting serious and burned out- just a little time here or there and if someone else finds it than great! I really get more dissapointed if I didn't get the park before it's found. And that hasn't happened yet. This makes for plenty of chances for everyone to find it at least once each :)
It's probably just me, but is anyone else getting dizzy from these clues? The first hunt was ok, but these last two, I feel more like I'm reading little stories than clues and when I'm done, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for. Granted part of it is I don't have much time to really sit down and analyze them, and admittedly some of my clues have been the same way, but I'd like to think that a clue gives you some idea of what you're supposed to do with it. Or if there was even one odd phrase that stuck out that you're supposed to do something with, but these clues are like nothing but odd phrases.
Ok, I'm done whining. I'm busy writing my own clues anyway right now. I'm thinking it's going to be a pretty good hunt the way it's shaping up.
All hunts have their good and bad clues AW. It's the ones that are special to you personally that make the difference. You might not think that a clue is any good but someone else might for reasons not apparent to you. I am getting confused too. It's kinda like all those reality shows popping up all over recently. I just hope it doesn't get to be overkill. I assume that the cream will rise to the top and we'll hopefully have enough well written hunts to make it worth while. I am looking forward to your hunt as well AW. Hell, maybe we can make a reality show about a treasure hunt? Hieummmm.
The thing is, we don't have to do all these hunts. With Kilty's and Redbear's hunt, I didn't really pay attention to them. I'd read the clues, but I wouldn't go diving for my THG with it. I'm trying to pace myself for AW's hunt. It's kind of like golf. AW's hunt is a grand slam event, like the Masters or the US Open. Kilty's and Redbear's hunts are like regular tour events, such as the Nissan Open or the Greater Milwaukee Open. I know Regman had talked about having a hunt this summer, but I told him to maybe hold off. I know there are people who have been coming up with clues, and who would love to have their own hunts. I just don't want it to be overkill. Eventually we'll know every park, and the clues will get to a point where they're like this year's PP hunt, obscure as hell.
Personally I think about one a month would be good, but there's no good way to regulate it. Mine has the advantage that it's been going for a few years so you can look at previous hunts to get a feel for how the clues are written. With all these puck posse hunts, you don't really know what to expect, or if you can even expect that the person is able to write solvable clues to begin with.
By the way, I think Jake is getting nervous about the Mock Hunt. I think he feels some sort of pressure (in his own mind) to find it again and is worried that he won't. Odds are his fears are justified since the person who will likely win this hunt will be the one to figure out the clues first, not the one who gets lucky digging in the right spot.
I'll agree that me2 might figure out the clues but her ideas will get buried beneath a thousand of her other ones and get lost. You know how it is when that brain of hers gets racing. That's just the time for Mr. Jake to drop in and take what he can and vanish into the snow. I don't foresee anything happening different other that it being a funner desk hunt.
I don't know if it was this thread or not but Artemis had posted some info on Ann Balanski and I had tried to post this response back on Feb 9th but got kicked offline before posting and havnt had time til now to re-post it---so...
interesting you found that all interesting KEL! I too was dumbfounded and speechless to see this is what the cluewriter was getting at. I have a hundred books on St Paul and it's history- funny thing is...only 1 book contains the story of Ann Balanski and I read it 2 years ago- I took a St Paul history tour 2 years ago which also mentioned where she lived and the story-
The total idea that they thought THAT clue pointed to her and COMO Lake is ludicrest! it is only mentioned (like you found out) in 2 lines of the whole story. That she hid out in the woods ALONG the lake! not somewhere in the park area itself! even though it wasnt a park til 20 years later, the concept of where the coin was really hidden and where Ann Balanski hid out are far apart. I think we all would have gotten more out of that clue that she was hung and hung downtown-so bringing us downtown-if it eeven brought us to Como Lake it would have been closer to the lake in general.
ALSO note- her name popped into my head BRIEFLY when the clue came out ONLY cause I was going over women in Minnesota History through my head but the NO MENTION of hanging (the rid of her husband ran and ran -running not killing) just didn't point to her---and not capitalizing W in Walker was too decieving. That better fit laughing waters-Minnehaha or Harriet who was a speaker/teacher and stayed away from men over all or even Eileen Weida and her walker.
I thought the same thing too about maybe this writer went to the play.
yes there was. ann tire co. much as i said i wouldn't do this, i'm thinking that actually is a play on words and is supposed to be entire. maybe a street name like mcentyre or something?
 It's crack head snoopy!
A COOLER HEAD FOUND IT AGAI-AIN! NA NA NA BOO BOOOOO! ;)
made all the more special by the fact that it wasn't jake! of course i don't think regman has access to the invite threads though.
yeah, we would have never heard the end of it if jake had found it!
I love it!
I'm not even sure Jake was looking. He threw such a hissy fit about not getting extra clues.
Good for Regman too for figuring out the clues. They were unique.
Actually he didn't figure out the clues. Well not at first. He had help *cough*
Good that he had a partner then. I'm sure he's thrilled.
Aww heck, should have let him keep looking. ;)
that is what I was thinking too- tell him Battle Creek-the furthest park from Jakes house :)
too bad I can't be mean or lie.
thats ok. i can.
yeah- Ares lies for ME cause I can't either :)
I am really bad at lying! must be where chris gets it from!
oh you know i do, j.
wait a minute. is it "me" i lie for or me2? cuz i didn't know i ever lied for mark.
:: resisting the temptation to go there::
hehehehe- good call Ares.
i guess i'll just have to go there some other time. make sure you read the thread tomorrow then ;)

lol! thats funny winger!

ok resisted the temptation long enough. i alwyas knew you liked it on top.
and in other news, anyone else think its real sweet of those puck posse guys to have all their mock hunts just for us? :)
Well, when this next one is found by a coolerhead, maybe we'll have to say thanks, as you said, for having these hunts for the Cooler Crew.
It was them that wanted a little "Friendly" competition wasn't it?
:-)
Everyone thinks they're a clue writer.
Sheesh, we're going to have Jake's dream.... Medallion hunts year-round.
hey, this is friendly competition, right?
Ares? you will NEVER know!
I like more hunts cause I can get some practice in while not getting serious and burned out- just a little time here or there and if someone else finds it than great! sorry. i told ya i had to go there.
ya know you make a good point about it letting us each find it once.
hey, this is friendly competition, right?
Yeah, it's friendly but there is still this "Us" & "Them" mentality.
I'm just glad I'm one of "Us"!
:-)
either way, you used the word mental :S
I also used the word ity.
What do you think of that?
Everyone thinks they're a clue writer.

this is me shedding big long tears for him. :: grins like cheshire cat ::
if you're saying that about your hunt, aw, about whoever figuring out the clues first, my money's gonna be on me2 or medkids.
I'll agree that me2 might figure out the clues but her ideas will get buried beneath a thousand of her other ones and get lost. You know how it is when that brain of hers gets racing. That's just the time for Mr. Jake to drop in and take what he can and vanish into the snow. I don't foresee anything happening different other that it being a funner desk hunt.
see and even though she and i aren't necessarily teamed up on this one, every idea she gets i can guarantee is gonna be run by me. at my desk. :)
My bets are on Med Kids and Marley. I wouldn't be surprised if someone finds it before Jake even knows what park it's in, hehe.
Isn't Jake still at Harriet?
:-)
He couldn't still be there, Buggs would get worried and send out a search party before they went out of business.
Is Jake the new medallion that we have to find? If so, I hope the clues are really hard. ;-)
if jake's the medallion we're supposed to find i'm not participating.
If it's Jake we are looking for just search for the urine trail ;)
I thought he was supposed to drink that urine of his.
ya know, if thatwere part of the prize, getting to make him actually drink it, i'm back in.
in then out-then in again... sounds like you will have lots of fun with this one ;)
only you....
You don't need to fine Jake. He'll find you...

Now---wasn't there a mention of ANN in the Frozen Buttox hunt yesterday? Maybe he put it at COMO! (everything can be made to fit at COMO)!
