So everyone is wishing everyone else good hunting. Is anyone actually hunting? I have a meeting from 9am until 11am or so today, so if it gets found in there, I may not be able to post about it until after 11.
As far as I know it hasn't. I did get two calls during my meeting, but no message. One was from Jake, they might have both been. I called back but there was no answer so I'm assuming it wasn't anything too important.
OK JAKE!! I REALLY DONT GET IT!! BUT WHATEVER! And NO I would never use a METAL DETECTOR in the Pioneer Press Hunt or ANY of our Mock Hunts!I have more confidence in myself and A CONSCIENCE!WOW
SO yes everyone JAKE is out using a METAL DETECTOR so everyone get out to BATTLE CREEK and find it before him! It is there!By one of the schools!
So have you given up for the day or just taking a break? Jake called me and said he put the thing away. Sounds like there's a few other people out there but not too many. I'll tell you it's hidden pretty well, though I'm still somewhat surprised no one has found it. But I'm going to assume it's still there. A little under 6 hours to the next clue.
Just takin a little lunch break and a nap. It was pretty damp and chilly out there this morning! Did some serious searching in one area, but not thouroughly searched yet. We ran into Me2, and Med kids, and then jake in the area I like on our way back to the car.
hey i got one 620 joe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we were out at BC with my kids yesterday lookin around looks good did'nt see anyone else but it was about 6pm so we'll be out there today lookin see you guys there.
I think the key has something to do with the pairs of letters in the clues, but haven't really spent any time trying to figure it out. I did not plan on doing the Mock Hunt this year, but I feel myself getting sucked in. Right off hand, I would guess Zone 2 in Battle Creek.
Yes. it's confirmed. Jake found it at 4:50pm in Battle Creek "Zone 4". It was in an area of the park along the trail between McKnight and Ruth and between North Park Dr. and Larry Ho Drive. It was hidden inside a pocket watch in a large log by the middle bridge near the Middle School. Jake is taking pictures and will post them. Explanations to come in a moment...
Wish I could have found time to participate more, but things are just a little crazy right now. Anyhow, congrats on another successfully completed hunt Allison.
Because St. Paul is the place, flowing with heaps of park space, You may consider it smart to work together in pairs. For two heads keep better pace seeking out a treasure’s hidden place Or then again one person alone may spot the fourteen squares.
The fourteen squares are mathematical squares: 1,4,9,16,25,36.... Up to 14 squared which is 196. If you pair up each number with the letter that corresponds to it by it’s position in the clue (1st letter, 4th letter, 9th letter, etc.) you end up spelling out B-A-T-T-L-E-C-R-E-E-K-P-A-R, which is to say it’s in Battle Creek, though not quite the main part of the park. “Flowing” is also a vague allusion to Battle Creek. This clue also of course tells you that it’s in a park in St. Paul.
Clue #2
While taking a look around, you’ll see hazards abound And thus safety and common sense are important details Troubling I think it would be, if I should happen to see Legions of hunters wandering too far from the trails.
Might it be true, you’d like another clue? Solve then if you will my funny little riddle. How would you go? You’d drive to the park, no? Right you would be if you first look for the middle.
The obvious part of this clue tells you that you should look for a park with trails and somewhat hazardous terrain away from the trails. “Drive to the park, no?” is an allusion to No. Park Drive, the street running along the north side of the treasure site. It also implies it’s in a part of the park you can drive to, as opposed to say Zone 3 where the parking lot is gated off. Looking in the middle refers partially to being by the middle bridge and across the street from Battle Creek Middle School. But to “first look for the middle” is really code for taking the middle letter of the first word of each line which spells out “In big log”.
Clue #3
The game of Gin won’t help you win And in Poker, no one sits in the north Instead set your aim, by sighting this game And you may need to go look for a fourth.
The card game that requires a fourth, and where someone might sit in the north is Bridge. A nearby bridge is visible from the treasure site. Also, this part of the park isn’t in any of the three Battle Creek zones in the Treasure Hunter’s Guide and thus you may need to go look for a fourth zone.
Clue #4
How much wood do you think a woodchuck could Check if a woodchuck could check wood? Though a woodchuck could, doesn’t mean a woodchuck would, But if it would and it could it should
This is actually a fairly straightforward clue saying that the treasure is hidden where’s there’s a lot of wood, both in the sense that there are a lot of trees in the area as well as the fact that it was lodged in a large piece of wood that you would need to check in order to find it.
Clue #5
Where the treasure doth dwell, only time will tell Though it might appear that time stands still. For when you see a train that does not move or gain Then have this treasure hunt in hand you will.
The infamous “what’s it hidden in?” clue. It was hidden in a broken pocketwatch (time stands still) that had a picture of a train on the front. Having it “well in hand” was your hint that this clue was about what the coin was in.
Clue #6
From the treasure’s home, our Capitol dome You really can’t see worth diddly squat. But you’ll be getting hotter if you stay near water Even though the treasure is in a very dry spot.
It’s true, you can’t see the Capitol Dome at all from the treasure spot. But there is water nearby as Battle Creek itself flows through this part of the park. The treasure was on dry land though and hidden in a log where it was likely to stay dry.
Clue #7
Using this clue to go forth, it’s best to start with the north And then making sense of this verse might be more groovy. If you keep that in mind, then you’re more likely to find Help from a park somewhere in 007's first movie.
James Bond’s first movie was “Dr. No”. Putting a park “somewhere in” that movie title you get “Dr. Park No”. But “No” is also an abbreviation for “North”, and line one says to start with the North which then gives us effectively “No Park Dr.”, or “North Park Drive”, the street that runs north along the section of park the treasure was hidden in.
Clue #8
It seems the Science Museum is the place to go see ‘em If you like to watch those high-riding Omni flicks But for the treasure’s location, search near a solid foundation That, in truth, supports a lot more than just bricks.
The “solid foundation” is the McKnight Foundation which supports many things, including the Omnitheater. The section of park the treasure was hidden in runs between McKnight and Ruth. And Ruth of course is “In ‘truth’”.
Clue #9
This clue is complimentary, since it’s beyond elementary. Still pay attention if you want to solve this mystery. He kept it simple and pure, great in mass scholars figure, Serving as one of the earliest governors in our history.
This clue refers to John Winthrop, one of the first governors in America, he was a Puritan (“simple and pure”) who governed the Massachusetts Bay Colony (“great in mass”). Winthrop St. runs into this section of the park very close to the treasure’s hiding spot. Also, “Beyond elementary” refers to Battle Creek Middle School near the treasure site.
Clue #10
I tell you it's no baloney when I say a tiger named Tony Shares a home with the treasure, at least in name. Where they make his cereal is what's most material And finding that park could put you back in the game.
Tony the Tiger is the “pitchman” of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes cereal. Kellogg’s home, where they make the cereal is Battle Creek, Michigan.
Clue #11
The Giant is tall and green, Santa’s in red and not so lean, One eats cookies and the other vegetables with ramen. Yet as different as they are, being worlds apart by far, There’s still one thing they definitely have in common.
The Green Giant and Santa Claus have one thing most clearly in common. They both say “Ho Ho Ho”. Larry Ho Drive is the street that runs just south along the treasure site.
Clue #12
I can hardly believe it, someone has yet to retrieve it? Well you’d better get yourself on over to Battle Creek. Between Ruth and McKnight is the strip of park that’s right And just north of Larry Ho is where you should seek.
You will get there and see bridges numbering three But only one spans water that’s northward flowing. If you look nearby there’s a log that’s as big as a hog And that’s the place to which you should be going.
This tells you the part of the park it’s in, and that it’s by the middle bridge in a big log.
And also JAKE im sure you can feel that NO ONE WILL look for your medallion! At least I know of 15 for sure that wont! You make friends fast there jakie!
Alright, mellow out people. Even though money is at stake, it's supposed to be fun.
Now consider this:
Around Clue #4, Jake spent probably 12 hours or so checking the trails between the two sections of Hidden Falls.
When Jake thought it was at Harriet, he was there checking it out until 5am.
From what I heard, Jake was at Hidden Falls, Crosby, Frost Lake, Highland, Marydale, Harriet, Mounds, and maybe more before even getting to Battle Creek.
He was in Battle Creek pretty much all night and all day without sleeping.
Other people had gotten to the very spot the treasure was in before Jake without finding it, so they had their chance.
When he did find out, maybe one other person was even around searching the area.
So yes it's true he pulled out a metal detector. There never actually was a rule that said he couldn't. I knew where it was, was a spot that a metal detector was going to prove very useful and indeed it didn't really help him find it. He didn't even know what all the clues meant, but he figured it was by the Middle School and by a bridge, and he went over the area quite well.
So frankly I think trying to claim that the only reason he found it was because of the metal detector is simply not true and borders on being simply sour grapes. I'll admit, I had hoped someone else would get the excitement of finding it and even beating Jake. But at the same time I know how much actual work he did put into it and I don't feel like I can claim he was undeserving to win.
I'd like to think it was a good hunt and I'd hate to see the memory of it tainted with bickering and anger.
Now, in other news, I went out to Battle Creek to meet Jake and whoever else was out there. When I got there ClueMaster, his daughter, and TMK were there as well. ClueMaster at one point happened to ask me where I live in Cottage Grove. I told him I was off Ideal. Then I told him the street and the actual address. It turns out where I live now used to be his house! I have all these train tracks and stuff running through the backyard and I always wondered who built them. It was ClueMaster! So in commemmoration of this coincidence as well as to celebrate the end of the hunt, I've decided we'll hold a wrap party here at my place on Saturday night. In fact, we'll have a bonfire since it should still be warm enough outside for that. We could do a dinner here, maybe have a barbecue or just roast stuff in the fire. There's a volleyball court if people want to do that. Or we could just follow ClueMaster around on a tour of what once was. Let me know if you want to come and I'll send you directions.
I dont understand Aw how you think a metal detector would not help! Metal detectors dont go through wood? Personally I think jake had already found it when Artemis,TMK,ME2and I seen him in the morn! The log it was found under Me2 had pointed out that it had been moved.hmmmmm! And I dont think people are bitter, atleast not towards you! I think when I told you at Ferns that he was going to use it you should of put it in the rules, regardless if you thought it would help or not.
I put in every second of my life besides minimal sleep, school and homework.
My point being it's not like he just walked up to it, found it with the detector, and snagged it. He worked as much as anyone else.
AW, I am not gonna hunt next year if you allow Jake. I dont care if you ban metal detectors, you gotta ban Jake.
I'm not even going to attempt to ban anyone from hunting. It's pointless anyway. Maybe you won't give them the prize, but they could still read the clues and look for it, and then they might just find it and keep it without saying anything. And it's not like you can kick them out of the park if they're looking for it.
Just cause Timothy McVeigh planned out his bombing doesnt mean we should let it go, does it?
Not the least bit comparable. Jake didn't even break a rule. He just didn't conform to other people's standards. Who's really to say that searching without a detector is somehow morally superior to using one? What if some people have better shovels or warmer clothes, or are simply younger and in better health?
I dont understand Aw how you think a metal detector would not help!
I don't believe the range on those things is very far and to use the thing, he would have had to have gone through at least a foot of wood. The only advantage I could really see it giving him is possibly eliminating where it wasn't.
Personally I think jake had already found it when Artemis,TMK,ME2and I seen him in the morn!
I very much doubt that. If that were true, I doubt Jake would have bothered calling me every 20 minutes to tell me how pissed off he was that he couldn't find it. And why waste the day rooting around through all that wet wood when he could have been at Buggs?
The log it was found under Me2 had pointed out that it had been moved.hmmmmm!
AW, I dont give a crap about the range. He had it with him. Thats all that matters.
And I say big deal. It's just a tool. Anyone can buy one if they can afford it. And some people have the luxury of being able to take off work so they can hunt all day. Some people have cell phones. There's a thousand other things I could probably mention that might give someone an advantage over someone else. There's no way you're ever going to have a level playing field unless we say everyone has to hunt only at night and they can only wear thin jackets, and they can only dig with a stick. As long as it's not a leafblower blowing debris in your face, then whatever. The real point is just to go out and hunt your own style of hunt and have fun with it.
Fb's from the puck posse. Tomorrow.
Happy Birthday CM and VJ!!!! Enjoy the day!
Good luck to those hunting today.
And Happy St. Patty's Day to all the Irish!
So everyone is wishing everyone else good hunting. Is anyone actually hunting? I have a meeting from 9am until 11am or so today, so if it gets found in there, I may not be able to post about it until after 11.
I'll prolly fly out for a few hours with the kid before the parade.
Rest assured Allison, folks are out hunting.
Why would I be hunting if I found it after the second clue?
Thanks TV & CD. If you don't see me today, you can rest assured that you're not in the right park. ;-) I'm headin' out now. C-ya there
Just checking in to see if it's been found yet.
Get out there and find it!!!!
As far as I know it hasn't. I did get two calls during my meeting, but no message. One was from Jake, they might have both been. I called back but there was no answer so I'm assuming it wasn't anything too important.

Did he find it with his METAL DETECTOR!!
I hope so!
Actually he didn't. He says it was in his truck when he found it. Plus it was in a spot where it wouldn't have worked very well anyway.

Sure, if you want to. Although there's not a whole lot of power out there. Basically just one extension cord's worth.
thats fine thats all i need no lights or nothing LET'S HAVE A PARTY
