thanks, ralph. :)

as for the web site, the current plan is to actually move it over to my servers after i get moved in at my brother's place sometime within the next few weeks. it'll live there for the summer, and then we'll move it back to 8m.com as the hunt approaches. for the 4 or 5 hits a month we're getting on it, i think i can handle the bandwidth usage on my connection :)

GOODNESS!!! rrrrrr

and goodness Tim--it was just my observation--it does not look exactly like the guy TO ME wether other people said there was speculation or not - I just thought the guy on the tv (even before they said he may be a body double) looked funny and not right.

and THANK YOU to everyone who took part (even in the little ways) to get COOLERCREW.COM :)

Anybody still need directions for tonight? If so, it might be best to email me at AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com and then I can just reply back to you.

And if you're not sure about going, remember this. Afterwards everyone is likely to be talking about how much fun it was and you're likely to wish you actually had gone. So why not just avoid that whole episode of regret and go!

What time are folks gathering, Allison?

I don't really know. I said people could come as early as 3 if they want to help set up. I was thinking of dinner around 5. But I'm guessing a fair number of people may not come until later.

I know we won't make it at 3. 5 is more doable...give or take a bit. Might be closer to 5:30.

Someone left a Windows 2000 Professional CD in a cache. Is it something I should grab? What is included on that?

Mornin' Sam!

Ares, my computer wizard friend, why would my 48X cd burner only burn at 8x - 10x?

Is it because it's on a pretty slow machine (475MHZ)?

Mon, 03/24/2003 - 6:36 AM Permalink
ares

you're more or less correct about win2k, jt.

first question about your burner, is it really capable of burning at 48x? the first number is the read speed off of it, the second is the burn speed, and the third is the burn speed to a cd-rw disc. bear in mind also that with a burner, you won't see the full burn speed unless you're burning the whole disc. reading and writing data to the center of the disc, which is where they always start, is always slower because of how the drives spin cd's. the speed of the machine probably has little, if anything, to do with it.

Could I be limited by the software?

I'm using Roxio.. Easy CD Creator basic (I think is what it's called), that came with the drive.

I'm thinking the "Basic" might be limited and to burn faster with their software, I would need to upgrade?

Mon, 03/24/2003 - 7:22 AM Permalink
ares

if the software supports the drive, it ought to at least be able to take advantage of the full write speed the drive supports. i suppose it is possible the processor speed is limiting the drive burn speeds. i don't know if they exist for win95/98/me or not, but you could try to find something that measures cpu utilisation while you're burning, and that'd tell you if it was the processor or something else.

joe!

sorry if this is overly obvious, but are your blank CD's 48x ?

I don't even have windows 2000 on my computer- I think that is a nice thing that someone didn't need anylonger to pass it along. Does it come with the pass code to run it? you can probly get one from Ares ;)
and Ian, I thought you were a computer wiz too to be asking the question of grabbing it or not. :)

Well, I have XP and ME at home, and Kris has 98SE so I don't think I need it. It says it is a legal CD.
