Sarah is in a class at school called SEM (don't recall what the letters stand for) --for years the 5th graders work on a project called something like - "1 Million Dollar project". This year was her year. She chose to spend it on getting an Italian restaurant up and running for the first 3 months. Just the building alone cost that much! With inflation I think its time to change the name of the project to "The 5 million dollar project"!!!!!
and a special thanks to Ares for downloading 'Its Amore' among other great Italian tunes.
needless to say... does anyones kids really do these big Art/Science Fair projects on their own? I was up til after 1 last night!!
It seems the carnival is going on much longer this time though, 17 days instead of the usual, what, 10? In this case I definitely would not assume the hunt will be starting the Sunday before when this time the entire hunt can fit into the span of the Carnival.
Did anyone just hear that Amber Alert on all the TV stations? It was just like a standard test but was actually used as an Amber alert looking for a black male who just took a child. I think this is an awesome idea. Just like closing doors to a store when a kid is lost. Time is always of the essence in a situation like that. I hope they catch the guy.
The Saint Paul Winter Carnival Ice Palace will be located on the Cleveland Circle site across West 7th Street from the Xcel Energy Center, downtown Saint Paul. Construction is expected to begin at the end of December and will be completed prior to the Winter Carnival Grand Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, January 21, 2004. The ice palace will remain open daily through the conclusion of the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, February 8 will signal the conclusion of the 2004 Saint Paul Winter Carnival and the closing of the ice palace. In order to collaborate with the 2004 NHL All-Star Weekend being held in Saint Paul on February 7 and 8, the traditional 10-day festival will be expanded to a three-week event spanning January 21 - February 8, 2004.

the earth's rotation doesn't have enough influence to induce the coriolis effect on bathtub water running down the drain. so the answer to 11 is indeterminate. :)

Well, ares. Go in the bathroom and flush the toilet for a few hours. When it flushes clockwise, then you can tell me "indeterminate".
the spin in the toilet is induced by the direction the holes in the rim are pointed. if you don't believe me put a colored dye in it and watch as you flush it.
Yeah I got 19 right, actually 20 because the real answer to the FM dial question (#10) is 87.5, not 88. Thanks LL. That was fun. I love that dollar bill, the 12 VHF channels and no #24. Missed those 'tricky' questions.
I didn't think of the difference between the yellow and gold on those.
Yeah, same here. I put silver instead as a guess for some small writing or something. You look at the words 'condensed soup' and tell me that's yellow. Either way it is a different color than the gold stamp I guess.
Ian - Nope. You've got my curiosity now though. Were they still there? Me2?
for making me feel quite stupid. I did get the states right however and yes I did notice there was no 24 right away. there is 235 days left before the PP hunt as of 06-04-03 which now makes 234 days cuz its thursday now :)
ok- recall a few months back I mentioned Beans asking me if the flag is still on the Moon ??? I am still trying to find out. I even looked up this cool information (I had no idea it took this much work to design and make the flag & its pole!)
Even if it's not standing, it should still be there. Where is it going to go? There's no atmosphere on the moon so there's no wind. Unless a meteor hit it maybe.
The Apollo 11 flag was placed within about 50 feet of the Lunar Module LM Eagle. Its pole was pushed into the lunar surface about 6-8 inches. It's possible that the rocket exhaust from Eagle's ascent stage knocked over the first flag planted on the moon. LM Pilot Buzz Aldrin has said occasionally that he saw the flag fall during Eagle's liftoff. Later flags were placed farther from the LM and driven deeper into the surface.

do i get a special bag of green m&m's to go along with it? :)
Dose any one know the date's for the 2004 hunt yet?
i know someone who might. but she hasn't even shared that info with me yet :(
I just wanted to put in for vac. time.
might be later than normal, to tie in with hockey play-offs.
that makes two of us, digger.
The dates are actually in the Grand Excursion information magazine.
2004 Winter Carnival from January 23 to February 8.

More COOL Grand Excursion information is at:

2004 Winter Carnival from January 23 to February 8.
so would the first clue be on the 23rd. and when and where is the pre dig bash.
the hunt itself has typically started the sunday before the carnival. which would make the first clue coming out at 11 or midnite on the 17th.
cooler thanks man

They caught him this morning! I think that amber alert is gonna be a good thing!

Oh...
Mornin' Sam

mornin' ralph.
I believe you.
I just want you to go flush the toilet for a couple hours.
I got 25. Still, forget the toilets. What about water going down the bathtub drain?
it all depends on which way it ends up starting to spin. like i said, a "body" of water like a bathtub isn't nearly large enough to be affected by the coriolis effect. at least not to the degree that you see a bathtub or sink drain anyway.
I got 16 right. I have heard that the water will spin counter in the upper hemisphere and clock wise in the lower back in science class.
To accurately test this theory, we need to stop the earth's rotation and test in a rotation-free environment to achieve some control data.
Yeah I got 19 right, actually 20 because the real answer to the FM dial question (#10) is 87.5, not 88.

Clue Master:
Were you downtown @ 12:30 ? Anybody know what was going on at Cherokee today? The place was PACKED.
I didn't think of the difference between the yellow and gold on those.

Hello, I drive though the edge of Cherokee 4+ times per day- didn't see anything!
17. Whose face is on a dime?
everyone here should get this -we covered this during Marley's hunt.
18. How many sides does a stop sign have?
UH, 2? back & front - DOH!
Ha ha! that was my first thought too, I had to decide if it was a trick question :)
GOT 23 right- well 22 since there were tech 29 questions.
I had almost all the colors on the soup can - I chose green and not gold but I did have yellow.
AND note: I got the Q&Z BUT a cell phone has all the letters!
Lickherlady? do you see the cross shining through the flag now?
oh,and if anyone was paying attention they just had to look at my avatar to see which color the flag stripes begin with ;p
I see it now! that's cool!
uh, by the way, that's not how you spell my name :O
no if we spelled it that way it would have to be something like "likher beevur".
LOL! beavers are too prickly!
try more frequent shaving then. :)
Only when I need to! otherwise you get beaver burn ;)
shaving ?
are we talking about TMK's head in code? ;P
which head does he shave?
i don't wanna think about that question....
ok- recall a few months back I mentioned Beans asking me if the flag is still on the Moon ??? I am still trying to find out. I even looked up this cool information (I had no idea it took this much work to design and make the flag & its pole!)
check this out
http://ston.jsc.nasa.gov/collections/TRS/_techrep/cr188251.html
anyhow-the only thing it told me about the flag being there still is this:
"It is uncertain if the flag remained standing or was blown over by the engine blast when the ascent module took off."
Now, wouldn't you think with the technology today NASA could see every inch of the Moon? and know if the flag is still there?
one would think.
Even if it's not standing, it should still be there. Where is it going to go? There's no atmosphere on the moon so there's no wind. Unless a meteor hit it maybe.
of course this all assumes that the moon missions weren't just fabricated in a hollywood studio. :)
