1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Clue 1 - suggests (with Clue 3) that it is near a golf course.

Clue 2 - suggests A Large Hill - not necessarily for sliding - but to stay away from such areas.

Clue 3 - suggests Numbered landmarks near by - And a place of much excitement

Clue 4 - Suggests a place with a lot of History that is connected with the now ( could be an abstract connection) A blase and iconoclast suggest a place that was moved or destroyed)

Clue 5 - Suggests a place of education or near such a place

Clue 6 - Suggests a place connected to fame as well as a literary figure there is also a hint of a "game".

My thoughts only of course

To Dave: as far as an abstact connection - judicial plaza designed by artist richard fleischner, just east of the capitol building, contains numeruos abstract pieces of granite, pavers, a small amphitheater, and a memorial wall. WHAT DO YOU THINK!

I never said I know where it is. I am pretty sure I know where it is. We all have an equal chance, I'm just trying to help

I know it's not going to be on or near a golf course because of past incidents of people digging up fairways and greens for the medallion. The carnival wouldn't want to go anywhere near that headache again.

I think it's in a downtown park. For all of those medallion hunters from last year, I am Troy McLure a.k.a. Clay.

YOU ARE ALL SO LUCKY TO BE HERE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!

am gonna tell you what park the medallion is in, and give you reasons why it is there!

STATE CAPITOL MALL-

clue 1- st. paul public ground, a park, NO GOLF COURSE ( if you go to a park where there is a golf course you are wasting your time)

clue 2- refers to activities at COMO, but if you look there your chances of winning are nil (no chance).

clue 3- somehow must be related to the surrounding buildings?

clue 4- studying the past : MN HISTORICAL SOCIETY(need I say more). there are also several war memorials which may also refer to studying the past. value as well in the new + iconoclast = JESSE VENTURA.

clue 5- refers to all the activity that takes place at the capitol.

clue 6- man of fame found in many tomes( school books, encyclopedias, etc.) there are memorials to COLUMBUS, LIEL ERICKSON, CHARLES LINDBERG, and other state and national leaders all over the place - any one of which this clue refers to.

Let me know what y'all think of my theory......

I agree with Brian over here, Rice Park has a Library very close to it.

Rice Park is on 4th and 5th street so I figure, if you're in sight of a nine somewhere around the park, you're in the right place!

All I'm gonna say is:

If Ann went where I think she did. its all a matter of where she looks when she gets there.

Now that I've given the rest of you a general area, I don't think telling you any more is good for my chances of finding the acclaimed medallion.

Now that I've given the rest of you a general area, I don't think telling you any more is good for my chances of finding the acclaimed medallion. Web crossing is getting very annoying!!!!!!!! Again I can't get through! What is this, did somebody just put a message in several times or what? Well that's the fifth time I couldn't get in! Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Please try again later! tenth,

Never in Rice Park with all the carnival activities there, and that includes the wiring that is put down in the snow for the lighting.

If you think about it, Highland park has a Library, church, a high school, a junior high school, and a small institute around the perimeter.

Rex,

Just got done with #7210. I dont't believe that the PP would send the largest hunting parting in the history of the Winter Carnival to the State Cap. Plus, these clues are made up far in advace to the winter season, and since Jessie was elected in November, I find it hard to be at the Cap.

Boreas Rex - The Capital Mall has been in the top few parks on my list... And one me and my shoveling partner just drove by and studied the surroundings... I like the Historical Aspect, with the New Historical Society Building very visable.. Also the Vo-Tech for learning... We were not, however, able to make the 9-5-4 clue fit very easily....
