About 10 years ago I worked with a woman that was denied a permit because her ex didn't make any specific threats. He was smart enough not to come right out and say he'd kill her.
So, a few months later he freaks out, barricades himself into the house with his ex and their daughter.
Police standoff ensues, ex wife is scared to death, kid is scared to death... The bastard eventually killed himself with the shotgun he had brought with him.
The moral of the story....
Hell if I know. I'm just glad I'll be able to plug his ass if I'm ever in a situation like that.
Their rationale was -- if there was a person in trouble in the neighborhood, they wanted them to feel there was a place for them to go for help where they wouldn't be shot if they got near the house. I don't know if they still do it.
That's part of the problem IMO in this debate. They felt that someone who had a gun would just willy nilly shoot someone if they got near their house? It kind of goes back to Dennis' knock knock blam balm line. No rational person which includes most law abiding gun owners are going to shoot someone for merely getting near their house. The only time I'm going to is if they are actually in my house at say 2:00 a.m. Then they are going to have a problem. It's that fear or rational that colors the whole debate because with many (not saying you) it's simlpy those unrealistic or hyped up fears that drives the debate. Nevermind that the data in the 34 other states that have done so show their fears to be unwarranted. Pizza guys and folks looking for shelter from bad guys aren't getting shot in droves.
BTW, if they were posting no guns in this house sign over in N. Mpls, they were either, naieve, crazy, brave or a combo of all 3. "Hey look bad guys, no worries about getting shot here" C'mon in and take what you'd like".
Yea, The nerve of him wanting to protect his wife and kids. Yes I'm sure JT would shoot someone in his yard. Of course he had the chance to last summer when some guy was trying to get into his house. He merely showed the guy the weapon and he left.
Knock knock, "Dominoes" blam blam.
Look man, their's dead hippies and pizza guys everywhere !
Just a quick question, ponder it how you'd like...
but how many people who have legal weapons are likely to actualy use them? I don't doubt that criminals have no fear/second though on firing, but what about the person who hasn't really fired it outside of a range (if at all) in a situation where it's truly needed?
I see that you were all discussing the possibility of people being too hasty, but what about the other way around?
but how many people who have legal weapons are likely to actualy use them?
I've heard people being interviewed who've gone through the liscencing process. The training they give is geared heavily towards that very question of when and how and mostly avoiding the situation. They said 70% of the class was geared towards avoiding using it and also the mental aspects and burdens that go with it. I will do the classes when I get time but will probably never carry.
I think that most people know when their life is truly being threatened, kind of a survival instinct I believe. For instance if any of you have ever been in a car accident vs. a close call you can usually tell when you're going to hit and things go slow-mo. I will say that yes those who are threatened better be prepared for it should they need to use it. There's alot of baggage that goes with it.
I don't understand any of this. If we were both were in Miami, I might.
Murder and violence aren't just in Miami, or L.A., D.C...
Other than that time last year, I can honestly say I've never been in the situation where I would have needed my pistol. That doesn't mean a situation may not present itself. If it should, I would want to be packing.
Rick, why can't you grasp the concept that some people might actually want to defend themselves? You seem to have the "it won't happen here" or "it won't happen to me" mentality.
BTW, I just got back from Iraq...torturing some citizens with saddam. Just using logic.
I think local television news pursuades a significant percentage of the population of any large urban area to start jumping at shadows. It's preoccupied with crime and mayhem because they know what gets the ratings.
I would bet that within a month, at BEST, you will be going out without your "Piece" in tow, simply because you are going to look pretty stupid strapping on that piece, like you are some sort of "Super Fly", headed out to fight crime... But just think...when you and the family are all over-21, you can go out to dinner, ALL PACKING...!
Yeah, I'll look real stupid. No one will even see it, Einstein!
btw: I will teach my kids to shoot when they're old enough. The 15 year old girl is ready, but the boys have a few years to go.
You had better hope you NEVER have to shoot anybody dude.
Get real.
I've already said I would never want to shoot someone, but I would if I needed to.
As much as I wouldn't want to, I would sleep just fine at night. I know that I'm not just out there shooting people willy nilly.
All I have to say is, if some thug comes in my liquor store to rob me I pray to god that JT is in line behind him! I don't see any point in putting up a sign to keep the guns out cuz the criminals are gonna bring them anyway and my only hope is gonna be that one person walking around my store with their concealed weapon!

Where do you think they would get and idea like that?
Let's look around.......:::rummaging sounds::::
Wait! I found something....
"I'm just glad I'll be able to plug his ass if I'm ever in a situation like that. "

In the two seconds I thought I might have to shoot that guy I thought, "Please God, don't make me have to shoot this guy".
I would have nonetheless.
Right but would you just shoot a guy for getting near your house ?
If it was Rick I would.
Just kidding, Rick.
But seriously, I wouldn't use it unless someone's life were in danger.
Just a quick question, ponder it how you'd like...

Actually, if the signs are posted and you carry one into the Metrodome for instance, you will be breaking the law.
I'll keep it out of any place that is specifically excluded. Such as Courts, Government offices, the Metrodome, schools...
Other than that, screw it. They're infringing upon my right. It will be concealed. They won't even know I have it, so it won't be an issue.
Just one for-instance, but it shows contempt and a lack of respect for OP's rights as well, "under the law"...?
You're sure selective in your defense of peoples rights.
People should have the right to smoke dope, but not legally carry a gun.
Only from the mind of a Liberal.
Do you actually plan to carry a gun when you run errands or go out for dinner?
Do you actually plan to carry a gun when you run errands or go out for dinner?
Of course.
When else would I carry it?

Turn off local TV news, JT.
Yea, stick to the Times and BBC for your "facts" ;)
You could do worse.
yea, you're right I almost forgot there's always the strib too.
Turn off local TV news, JT.
How would turning off the news help?
Turning off the TV won't protect me should the need ever arise.
I agree the chances of me needing to brandish a weapon are slim, but there is a chance.
And it is your right under the constitution to do so.

"What you don't know and don't see can kill you!"
What channel do you watch all I see on T.V. is so against the C.C. bill that they make me sick with there anti gun sentiment.
I watch local television news only when I want a good laugh.
No, it doesn't. There more good television being made than you have time to watch.
I watch local television news only when I want a good laugh.
I agree, have you seen Esmee Murphy's forehead?
I don't like to watch tv at all it rots your brain
Isn't that the idea? Thinking is overrated and hurts most of the time anyway.
You just proved my point why don't you go and read a good book maybe some thing on history of the Middle east.
Good one CM LOL

There is a big difference when you have to defend your loved ones as opposed to being ordered to kill.
whats the matter you don't like paintings?
It's kinda darkly enigmatic, Digger.
Uses a lot of bandwidth.
it uses 17k tops, rick. just like everyone else's.
Uh-oh -- Rick wants to socialize the Internet!
I all ways thought he was a communist.
Property is theft.
If I'm your nightmare, Digger, I might be doing something right!!!
not a nightmare just a joke LOL....
Then I'm probably still doing something right!!

That is the correct approach LL.
Why? you gonna rob me ;)
He has not been on all week maybe he is on vac.
